An okay saw.

An okay saw.

For the money, the saw is okay at best. I used to have a Rigid R4511 (the crazy granite top one) and honestly some things about that one were better than this saw. Things I like: Solid construction and very heavy and well built. It runs really well so no issues there. Good dust collection. The blade guard is good. Things that I don’t like: #1) The fence (at least the one I got) is garbage. Everyone said it was upgraded compared to the previous model. The fence is not flat, it&#...

More than I was looking for

THIS ROUTER IS BARELY A MONTH OLD AND THE MOTOR QUIT WORKING. GRIZZLY IS SENDING A RETURN MAILER FOR A REFUND. IT WORKED WELL OUT OF THE BOX, AND SEEMED LIKE A GOOD DEAL. GUESS I’LL BE LOOKING FOR ANOTHER ROUTER SOON. ANY SUGGESTIONS? I almost always use the router table, but wanted a plunge router for a project I was working on. There are a lot of trim routers on the market now with plunge capability and 6 amp motors. The T27139 was the least expensive of the routers I looked at...

Drum Sander

Drum Sander

10-25-2018 12:52 PM by Jarrhead | 5 comments »

Been wanting to add a drum sander to the shop for many years. Shopped hard for a decent used one on craigslist. There were some options out there in the used market, but they were either too big for my needs, or too expensive for their condition. I finally got prodded to take action by a project I started that involved some spalted wood. I found some gorgeous spalted tamarind for the carcase of a jewelry box I am making. Unfortunately, because of the spunky nature of the spalted wood, no...

I really like the Grizzly G0771 table saw, and have used it for several years now. I was pleased to discover that Grizzly came out with an insert for the G0771, however, this rating lost two stars for the following: 1) The insert sits 0.020” higher than the original insert which means the leveling screws have to be readjusted when swapping the inserts. The ZC Inserts I make have oversized holes that fit over the screw heads. This allows a thicker edge on the insert, and the leveling...

Grizzy G1021x2 15" Helical Planer - Initial impressions review

Grizzy G1021x2 15" Helical Planer - Initial impressions review

This is another one of those “I just got the tool” reviews, but there is so little information out there about this planer I thought this might be helpful to some… Grizzly offers a few 15” planers, and more than one with helical cutterheads. I chose this one because it wasnt made in China (no tariff fee) and because the cutterheads are curved and set at a 30 degree angle. their other option, G0453, is made in china and uses straight inserts that are parallel to the ...

Grizzly 6"x80" Edge Sander, It's worth every cent

Grizzly 6"x80" Edge Sander, It's worth every cent

09-11-2018 08:05 AM by WoodenDreams | 5 comments »

This Edge Sander is a bench top model. I choice this instead of Floor Model so it would have wood storage under it, with my limited space. This sander is mounted on a 24” high bench. To help with dust collection I taped some construction paper to the inlet area. This extended the dust collection area. If I need more of the belt available I untape it and retape It back up. I keep in stock extra belts (2 each of 80, 120, 180 & 220 grit). The belts only takes less than a minute to chan...

I bought the Grizzly G0771Z in April 2017. I did send Grizzly a poor review after the purchase, But, after the first 3 month of usage, I sent Grizzly a revised, but good review….. I was going to buy the Grizzly G0833P, but the salesman over the phone told me to buy the G0771Z. Reason was the shipping crate size, had to fit thru a certain boor. When I received it I took everything out of crate & dolleyed it in. The G08339P would had fit through. The rail attaching to the back of the ...

Planer upgrade

Planer upgrade

08-31-2018 12:38 PM by Jarrhead | 6 comments »

So, I upgraded the planer in the shop. Went from the old tried and true Jet JPM-13 Planer Moulder, to a Grizzly G0453W. I wanted a little larger capacity, and a higher horsepower motor. Found the planer, used, on Craigslist for $1000. It needed a little lovin’, but overall was in pretty good shape. Some surface rust, and a worn out set of blades. The G0453W is kind of a Grizzly anomaly. They apparently only manufactured it for a year or two, and it is now discontinued. I can’t find an...

Grizzly G0457 Review

Grizzly G0457 Review

07-24-2018 01:58 AM by Wstein | 2 comments »

I recently purchased the Grizzly G0457 and let me say I have been impressed with so far. I decide a few months ago I needed a bandsaw to resaw some 6/4 and 8/4 wood I had in my shop for boxes for my nieces. I looked at several different ones, my wife even got me a small benchtop bandsaw. For the price and specs, the Grizzly G0457 stood out to me. I know for the money I spent I could have gotten a 17” model instead for a little bit more. But the G0457 had the 2hp motor, 220volt con...

Happy, after some difficulties

Happy, after some difficulties

Had some difficulty obtaining the saw from UPS freight, Grizzly’s chosen freight provider, at least in my area. UPS could not deliver because:Day 1: I could not be home from 7:30 to 6:00 waiting for delivery, I had to be out for 3 hours that day.Day 2. It was snowingDay 3. It might snowDay 4. Tailgate brokenDay 5. Turbos on truck brokenFinally the saw was delivered. As difficult as UPS freight is to deal with their drivers are TERRIFIC. I gave the driver a hefty tip for rolling it into the...
