I recently decided to upgrade my table saw. The JET 10” hybrid saw I bought new about 17 years ago has served me well, but I wanted to take advantage of some of the advancements in table saw design that have occurred since then. There were two major developments in table saws that I was adamant about having on my new saw. The first was a riving knife. Not merely a splitter, but a true riving knife that raises, lowers, and tilts with the blade. Back when I bought my JET, riving knives wer...

Jointer	Grizzly G0490XW

Jointer Grizzly G0490XW

I purchased the G0490XW. I ordered the one that I wanted and waited for to come in: it was on back order. Came in about mid November 2016. Yes it has the spiral head and mine worked first time just fine. Still tuning in some stuff. I probably still have a little to learn about it yet. However, my boards come out very flat and the edges are very square. Took a while to get it square. I mean really square. So gluing up produces nice flat work. It does exactly what a jointer is suppose...

It eventually turned out well, but what a pain

It eventually turned out well, but what a pain

I recently decided I wanted to upgrade my 6” Jet jointer. I had gotten tired of cutting board and re-gluing them, and the beds just weren’t long enough. I had upgraded the straight knives on my Jet to a Byrd head a few years back and knew I wanted a segmented head. I did a bit of research and decided it was worth going for the parallelogram beds; hopefully if I bought a new machine I wouldn’t have to adjust it, but shimming dovetail ways is a whole lot harder then adjus...

Grizzly Branded Byrd Shelix Cutter Head for the G0452P

Grizzly Branded Byrd Shelix Cutter Head for the G0452P

I got some tiny nic’s in the blades on my Grizzly G0452 Jointer and figured with these being on sale (4/2016) at Grizzly, why not avoid the hassle of the getting new knives and having to get them set correctly and all that trouble again. It arrives packaged as seen, in great shape, and I’d be very impressed if the shippers were able to damage this in shipping. Installation was a little tough – pulling the bearings off the old jointer head required a pulley puller/extracto...

Exceptional saw at a terrific price!

Exceptional saw at a terrific price!

After my disappointment with Central Machinery, I have been cautious about purchasing large shop equipment, but I couldn’t be happier. I went down to the Grizzly scratch and dent sale in Springfield, MO this past June. I was specifically looking for a new bandsaw as my old 12” Craftsman (circa 1965) was just worn out. There were plenty of store models out in the tents, and a few really banged up saws too. I picked the G0555P which was selling at $545 minus the 10% discount for mil...

New Jointer

New Jointer

07-07-2016 12:10 PM by TigerTed | 14 comments »

Jointer was delivered into my garage 5 days after ordering. That included the weekend and 4th of July holiday. I did pay for the lift gate service. Packaging was very good and in great shape. Broke down easy for recycling. Assembly was very straight forward. I did start off using jacks and jack stands to get top close to installed height. Turned out to be waste of time. Friend and myself easily picked up the top to put on the stand. Table checks with a 3’ Starrett showed the ...

My Review of the Grizzly G0532 Dry Spray Booth

My Review of the Grizzly G0532 Dry Spray Booth

Note, I have edited this review to add more information. Hi Everyone, Here’s another stab at a tool review, I seem to remember doing one once before. Still fairly new to woodworking, I’ve been at it for about a year and a half now. I’m amassing some nice tools along the way, and lately I’ve started to delve into spray finishes. I recently bought an Earlex 5500 HVLP spray system and I knew I was going to need a spray booth for the fumes. I got incredibly lucky b...

Mixed Opinion About This Bandsaw...

Mixed Opinion About This Bandsaw...

About 15 months ago I purchased my Grizzly GO555 bandsaw. After it arrived I unboxed it and put it together. I normally put the boxes of items I buy in a shed I built just to keep them in until the warranty expires, but one of my kids tossed the boxes out without my knowing it. As soon as had it all together I grabbed some scrap and fired the saw up with the anticipation of a 5 year old on Christmas day only to be a bit disappointed in how it operated. The blade lead was horrible to say th...

An Excellent Small Shop Unit

An Excellent Small Shop Unit

05-19-2016 10:12 PM by Wondermutt | 8 comments »

This is a non product spec hands on review. In a few words, dump your harbor freight 2up unit and get this unit. Here’s why: IT WORKS. Bether than I expected it to. I needed a portable DC. I have a stationary 2hp unit and it works great. What I don’t like is the continual failure of the dust collection bin level alarm and it’s real tall, so making it portable may prove difficult. I tried to make my old hf 2hp unit with a super dust deputy portable, but again, not...

A Great New Addition To My Shop

A Great New Addition To My Shop

Manufacturer: Grizzly Industrial, Inc.Model: Grizzly G0513P – 17” 2 HP Bandsaw, Polar Bear SeriesModel: Shop Fox G7314Z – Heavy-Duty Mobile BaseCost: $895 and $74.95 Overview First a note about this “review”. This is more of an informational post, not so much of a review as I have not owned a bandsaw before, and therefore have nothing to compare it to. Having a bandsaw in the shop opens a completely new avenue of possibilities in the way wood is cut: ev...
