A decent sharpener, but be careful!

A decent sharpener, but be careful!

My Work Sharp has a knife sharpening attachment, but the missus doesn’t always want to go out the the shop to sharpen her kitchen knives. So I thought I’d try out the Work Sharp Knife and Tool Sharpener. Besides, i’m a sucker for anything that comes in one of those fancy canvass tool bags! It’s a self contained, hand held machine that comes out of the drawer and plugs into the wall in seconds faster than you can say “get out the knife sharpener and plug it int...

The $100 WS2000 or the $200 WS3000- What's the difference?

The $100 WS2000 or the $200 WS3000- What's the difference?

I love me some sharp tools, and as an increasingly lazy woodworker, I looked high and low for the perfect way to get my dull tools back to work with minimal effort, time and of course, money. I think the Worksharp may just be the perfect fit! Not only is it fast and easy to use, but it offers a tremendous bang for your buck. The only problem is, which model to choose? The WS2000 is about $100, while the WS3000 is twice the price. Is it twice the machine? Can a budget conscious woodworker get ...

Easy sharpening

When I first got this sharpener about two years ago I did not like it too much, I didn’t know too much about sharpening and wasn’t getting the results I thought I would, I did some research and understood better what needed to be done to get a sharp edge, I only used the sandpaper that was included in the worksharp which is Norton sandpaper, I was pretty happy about that. They sell a honing kit that includes a 3600 and 6000 grit that I considered buying but since it came with the ...

Piss poor results

Piss poor results

Let me start out by saying I wanted to like the WS2000. I read the reviews here and elsewhere and was sold on the idea that it was going to make sharpening of plane irons and chisels easier. Previously I have practiced the “scary sharp” method of sharping on progressively finer grits of sandpaper utilizing an inexpensive honing guide. My biggest frustration with the honing guide was the poor ability to obtain consistent results. I will say this in the WS2000’s favor. I...

Work Sharp

Work Sharp

I have owned my Work Sharp for a little over two years. I don’t mean to be critical but I have seen too many reviews that are done by someone who has played with their new tool over the weekend and give it 5 stars. I would like to see more reviews after they have had their tool for a while (30 days or more). When I first got my Work Sharp I was disappointed in it because it is a free hand machine, so it is like sharpening on a stone free hand you have to get a feel for it, you have to get ...

I won’t go into extensive review on this tool as JC did an extended video review of the WS2000 here. It came with 80 and 220 grit slotted discs which are good for medium duty grinding. I tried using the 80 grit solid wheel with the tool guide (coming up from underneath) and although it gave an accurate angle, it was more like grinding with 40 grit. Going to 220, it couldn’t get the grind marks out of the face of the bevel. I eneded up with a polished face with circular marks in...

So I just got the WS3000 this weekend and had a chance to play around with it. This thing is amazing, I have been rehoning all my chisels and plane irons less than 2” in assembly line fashion (all backs at 120 grit, then bevels, then all backs at 400 grit, then bevels, and so on). This thing is amazing, super easy to use, and very quick compared to the manual Scary Sharp method. Now onto the wide blade attachment that I purchased for my 2 3/8” plane iron at $69.99 The angl...

I know that there have been a few reviews of this sharpening system… but I got one a while back and I just wanted to review it and let all my fellow Aussies that it is available here now.. This is the easiest way to keep your hand tools…. chisels and plane irons … sharp… Also great for turning tools and carving chisels… curved as well as straight.. “Work Sharp” is an innovative grinding & sharpening system for sharpening Chisels, Plane Blades, Scrapers...
