Sanding a mirror surface

Sanding a mirror surface

Bosch 1/2 sheet sander After using 1/4 sheet sanders or random orbit sanders on my table tops I usually end up with a bit of a ripple when I varnish or lacquer the top. I have a planer but even after planing I always seem to have these slight ripples after sanding. In Flexner’s book he uses what looks like a half sheet sander (can’t confirm, a WC owner borrowed my book I bought from him after telling him how good it was) and a carpenter friend said he really liked the 1/2 sheet Bosch so ...

Big improvement ends being PURE GARBAGE!!!

Big improvement ends being PURE GARBAGE!!!

I’ve purchased this saw ‘cause I owned the past model. It was supposed to be a big improvement. Surprise!!!, the main table was broken at the back, right where the Allen screw holds the saw’s main axle!!!. I’ve sent it to the service center and they kindly replaced the table at no cost…’cause the saw was under warranty still. I’ve seen the saw had a problem. It wouldn’t stay vertical, I mean it wasn’t cross cutting vertical, there was at l...

Pocket Rocket

Pocket Rocket

The PS 31 has quickly replaced my Bosch 18v as my everyday drill. I could not have been more surprised by the performance. Initial Impressions The case that comes with it is not as robust as the traditional Bosch tool case. It is made from a soft canvas-like material but the construction seems sturdy enough. I would not stack other tool cases on top of this one. On the other hand, the drilll is very tough. It fits well in your hand and the rubberized surfaces are very comfortable. ...

One Sweet Saw

One Sweet Saw

Cuts very clean. The 90 degree stops were perfectly square right out of the box so no adjustment needed. With a dust collector attached it’s got excellent dust control. It glides so smooth you can just about operate it with a couple fingers. My only gripe is that it did not come with a laser guide. Even my $90 Makita P.O.S. came with one. For an $800 saw to not have one is mind boggling. I was so annoyed by that I almost gave it 4 stars.

Fantastic Affordable Blades from Bosch

Fantastic Affordable Blades from Bosch

I picked this 60 tooth ATB from Menards about nine months ago for $60. The blade is not thin kerf, she can be resharpened, she’s balanced and quiet. Crosscuts have been clean and smooth with minimal tearout. I can’t afford Forrest and I wanted something with some beef to it for making crosscuts, Bosch has fit the bill. They have a full line of “Pro Series” blades which I have decided to invest in.

Good router, okay table

Good router, okay table

I got the Bosch 1617EVSPK 2.25 HP Router Kit with the fixed and plunge bases as an upgrade to my Ryobi router. I was looking for more power and also for a router I could mount in a table (I never could get the Ryobi in a table for some reason, and I even tried a Ryobi table).I got the router from Lowe’s on 11/15/2010 for $189.00 in Phoenix, AZ. Home Depot had the same unit for $209.Those are only the two routers I’ve ever used and I like the Bosch much better. I chose it over othe...

The new Bosch GCM12SD Miter Saw with articulating nuckles and no rails

The new Bosch GCM12SD Miter Saw with articulating nuckles and no rails

I was at the New England Woodworking Show last week not really looking for anything in particular when I happened on the new Bosch Miter Saw. I had looked at the Festool… too expensive and I hate that your blades are limited by the size of the arbor & that Festool wants you to buy their blades. I started really looking at the Bosch and the price was so good ($694 show price) that I ended up ordering one the next day. It came on Wednesday but I didn’t have time to do anythin...

Santa brought a New Bosch GCM12sd miter saw

Santa brought a New Bosch GCM12sd miter saw

My old Delta chopsaw has served me well for a number of years, but many recent projects hungered for a better way to cut compoundangles with a larger crosscutting capacity. Santa brought a new saw for me this Christmas. Its a Bosch GCM12sd, which is one very large saw, compared to the Delta chopsaw. This thing is amazing. The slide mechanism is a bit of engineering marvel if you ask me.The “articulating” arm, as they call it, moves effortlessly across the bed of the sawwith a o...

Good Sander

Good Sander

I bought this ROS mainly on the strengths of its dust collection. A number of reviews that I’ve read consistently rated its dust capture better than other ROS (except of course the mighty Festool). After a couple of hours of use, I’m pretty happy with it so far…Pros:great dust captureminimal vibrationcomfortable to useCons:slow material removal1” DC port (would it have killed them to make the port 1 1/4” so as to fit a standard shop vac attachment???)

Garbage bits

Garbage bits

12-06-2010 03:56 AM by Drew | 20 comments »

I bought these bits as I was walking out the door of Lowe’s, remembering I was out. Unfortunately Lowe’s doesn’t carry Irwin, so I bought these. I broke 4 of them the first hour of my work day. These bits are ok in a cordless drill, but a joke in an impact. 2 stars.Pros, they fit nice. Cons, worthless in an impact. Stick with Irwin or DeWalt.
