Bosch 1617EVS 2.25 HP Variable Speed Router

Bosch 1617EVS 2.25 HP Variable Speed Router

Introduction – After 20+ years of woodworking, I have discovered a couple important facts about routers – safety is very important and it is convenient to have more than one router. I have had the opportunity to use a number of branded routers, with my favorite two being Porter-Cable and Bosch. This review discusses the Bosch 1617EVS 2.25 HP Variable Speed Router. My priorities included safety, accurate/efficient cuts, performance, quality components, functionality, size, and price. I am ...

What a fantastic saw

What a fantastic saw

Overall impressionsI only wanted to buy a jigsaw once, so I bought the best I could afford the first time. This was it. $160 at the CPO Bosch website when I bought it a few months ago. I think it’s down to $145 at amazon now. I’ve been using the saw for a few months now, and have to say that I’m very glad I bought this rather than some of the others I’ve looked at. This saw seems to have power to spare in every task I’ve thrown at it, up to and including 2&#...

Sweet little tool

Sweet little tool

This is one of those tools that you buy for specific uses, so naturally I hemmed and haw for a while before purchasing. Over the last few months I have experienced using the Fein tool from time to time on different job sites. Once you use this type of tool you under stand the convenience, instead of breaking out you Japanese saw. I’m not one for long winded review, but I will say this Bosch always makes a quality tool and the quality, power and easy of use are on point with the Fein plus it...

One Sweet Saw

One Sweet Saw

Cuts very clean. The 90 degree stops were perfectly square right out of the box so no adjustment needed. With a dust collector attached it’s got excellent dust control. It glides so smooth you can just about operate it with a couple fingers. My only gripe is that it did not come with a laser guide. Even my $90 Makita P.O.S. came with one. For an $800 saw to not have one is mind boggling. I was so annoyed by that I almost gave it 4 stars.

Bosch Pocket Driver Packs a Punch

Bosch Pocket Driver Packs a Punch

1939 days ago by Blake | 11 comments »

I really like my new pocket driver. Bosch has reinvented the cordless driver, and it leaves nothing to be desired. The way it fits in your hand makes you feel like a cowboy. No kidding. It really makes it want to practice your quick-draw. Due to it’s Li Ion battery it only weighs 4.88 lbs but delivers 80 in.-lbs. of Torque with a variable speed trigger. The LED light is the icing on the cake. I like my heavy duty DeWalt 14v cordless drill for boring holes but sometimes I go back a...

Not bad, Not Great

Not bad, Not Great

For a few years I made do with a ryobi plunge router. In fact it’s still going strong, but the time came for an upgrade. I knew I wanted a kit, that way I could put the fixed base under the router table and just switch the motor over. The plan was to make some rail and stile doors so I figured on at least a 2hp router. In doing the research it seemed like this router and the dewalt were fairly close. I wasn’t planing on doing much template routing and actually liked the feel...

Bosch 1617EVSPK router kit

Bosch 1617EVSPK router kit

425 days ago by jpatte | 9 comments »

I bought this kit about 6 months ago and I love it. This router does everything that I expect it to do. The motor is strong enough for the tasks I ask of it. I have yet to try a panel raising bit in it but I don’t see it having trouble spinning such a large bit. Both the fixed and plunge base are very well built and the plunge action on the plunge base is smooth. Adjusting bit depth is easy and these adjustments are held tight with a good locking mechanism. In my shop the fixed ba...

Bosch 1617EVSPK: a fine museum piece

Bosch 1617EVSPK: a fine museum piece

I purchased this router set about 2 months ago and it has performed as I expect any tool with Bosch’s name on it to perform: perfectly. What I didn’t expect, is just how beautifully finished this router is. This tool belongs in art museums to represent the epitome of modern industrial design. Everything about this router, including the case it comes in, suggests that the people who designed and built it cared about it, and that makes you care about it and the work you do with it. ...

bosch router 1617evs router

bosch router 1617evs router

I recently acquired a Bosch router, the variable speed 2 1/4 hp 1617. It is day and night compared to my old Ryobi. First, it comes in a massive blue case with ample room for the router motor, fixed base and plunge base as well as accessories. It comes with the 1/4 and 1/2” collets, a set of wrenches, a manual and a special wrench to adjust the plunge base from above the table. You can adjust the speed from 8000 to 25000 rpm by turning a dial. It is also variable speed and will eas...
