Review of the Bosch 4000 Portable Table Saw and Folding Stand

Review of the Bosch 4000 Portable Table Saw and Folding Stand

1946 days ago by Mark A. DeCou | 21 comments »

NOTE: MY RATING OF 5 STARS is based on the operation of this saw for it’s intended use, being that it is a contractor’s portable table saw. I have gotten a lot of emails over the past 18 months or so since I first wrote this up, from folks hoping to build furniture without spending as much as a cabinet saw will cost them. I continue to feel that this saw is not recommended for high-end furniture making. You can get by with a handsaw if you have to, but if you buy this Portable ...

Serious sander, seriously expensive

Serious sander, seriously expensive

I took a deep breath and forked over the money for this sander on the strength of the reviews on Amazon and in a couple of woodworking magazines. I’ve been a woodworker for 50 years and have had many random-orbits, belt sanders, profile sanders, etc., but this baby actually lives up to the hype. I just finished a kitchen remodel where I built about a dozen drawer boxes as well as face frames & cabinet doors. This sander cut my sanding time literally in half. Since most other random...

Sanding a mirror surface

Sanding a mirror surface

Bosch 1/2 sheet sander After using 1/4 sheet sanders or random orbit sanders on my table tops I usually end up with a bit of a ripple when I varnish or lacquer the top. I have a planer but even after planing I always seem to have these slight ripples after sanding. In Flexner’s book he uses what looks like a half sheet sander (can’t confirm, a WC owner borrowed my book I bought from him after telling him how good it was) and a carpenter friend said he really liked the 1/2 sheet Bosch so ...

Bosch Jigsaw 1590EVSK - It is a sweet tool

Bosch Jigsaw 1590EVSK - It is a sweet tool

This is one of the best tools I think I have bought. I had a cheap Sears jigsaw for years and only used it when I had to. This baby is a joy to use. The T-style blades are just clipped in place and eject with the press of a button. Blade changing is almost fun, no more allen wrenches. The variable speed trigger is very easy to control. The blade rides up and down guided by a set of V shaped ball bearings which hold the blade true (these can be flipped out of the way if wanted). The pow...

Bosch Table Saw

Bosch Table Saw

This saw is great. I needed a portable saw that was accurate and this fit the bill. All I can say is BUY THIS SAW if you are in the market for something portable. It has everything you want in a table saw. Dust collection is good with a shop vac and I like that the miter gauge is full size and not a ‘mini’ one that come with most portable saws. The fence is aluminum with built in T-track which is very nice. It’s quiet and has a soft-start. I was especially impressed with t...

Small sander that does a big job

Small sander that does a big job

1176 days ago by Sawdust4Blood | 8 comments »

I bought one of these because I was looking for a detail sander that could get me into the corners of furniture projects. But since I make sawdust almost every weekend, I was looking for something that was going to last. I had looked around at a lot of other detail sanders and they all struck me as cheap flimsy things designed to be used on one or two projects then forgotten or thrown away. I also considered a couple of the multi-function tools for their utility but sanding was more important...

A real nice 5" ROS sander

A real nice 5" ROS sander

1847 days ago by GaryK | 11 comments »

I was in Lowes the other day looking for substitutes items for which I usually buy Porter-Cable (PC). Now that PC is owned by Black & Decker I expect they will go downhill soon. The items I usually get are Routers and Random Orbit Sanders. I started looking at the Bosch for the ROS and noticed the ROS20VSK. It had a price of $70 so I picked it upto check it out and it has a price reduced tag on it for $45. Well, I couldn’t pass up 31.5% off. BADIt doesn’t seem quite as p...

Good Sander

Good Sander

I bought this ROS mainly on the strengths of its dust collection. A number of reviews that I’ve read consistently rated its dust capture better than other ROS (except of course the mighty Festool). After a couple of hours of use, I’m pretty happy with it so far…Pros:great dust captureminimal vibrationcomfortable to useCons:slow material removal1” DC port (would it have killed them to make the port 1 1/4” so as to fit a standard shop vac attachment???)

5 Stars for the Application! -1 for limitations when it comes to fine work

5 Stars for the Application! -1 for limitations when it comes to fine work

I definitely give this one 5 stars, but this is specific of the application – it being portable. If I was comparing it with other Hybrid saws, than this one doesn’t really compare when it comes to power. That being said. I was shopping for a table saw, after many years of working with a circular saw, and a straight edge – for me – it was time to get a setup for repetitive cuts that would be easier, and less time consuming (not to mention more precise, as the machine...
