Not bad, Not Great

Not bad, Not Great

For a few years I made do with a ryobi plunge router. In fact it’s still going strong, but the time came for an upgrade. I knew I wanted a kit, that way I could put the fixed base under the router table and just switch the motor over. The plan was to make some rail and stile doors so I figured on at least a 2hp router. In doing the research it seemed like this router and the dewalt were fairly close. I wasn’t planing on doing much template routing and actually liked the feel...

Can't believe how smoothly this jigsaw cuts

Can't believe how smoothly this jigsaw cuts

For years I had a Skil jigsaw, a hack tool if there ever was one. I got in the habit of always cutting well outside the line and then sanding down to the line because of the roughness of the cut, no matter the blade or cutting mode on that machine. I found this Bosch on the CPO website for about $95 18 months ago. The first thing I noticed was how big and hefty it was compared to the Skil I think that helps stabilize it on cuts. I’ve mainly used it for rough work. Yesterday I ...

Bosch 1617EVSPK: a fine museum piece

Bosch 1617EVSPK: a fine museum piece

I purchased this router set about 2 months ago and it has performed as I expect any tool with Bosch’s name on it to perform: perfectly. What I didn’t expect, is just how beautifully finished this router is. This tool belongs in art museums to represent the epitome of modern industrial design. Everything about this router, including the case it comes in, suggests that the people who designed and built it cared about it, and that makes you care about it and the work you do with it. ...

Garbage bits

Garbage bits

I bought these bits as I was walking out the door of Lowe’s, remembering I was out. Unfortunately Lowe’s doesn’t carry Irwin, so I bought these. I broke 4 of them the first hour of my work day. These bits are ok in a cordless drill, but a joke in an impact. 2 stars.Pros, they fit nice. Cons, worthless in an impact. Stick with Irwin or DeWalt.

Not impressed

Not impressed

I purchased this bit because it had three cutters on each blade. It also promised to be a decent bit because of being adjustable. Well not quite what I thought. After 10 feet of tongue cutting one of the carbide tips snapped in half. My 5 year old was in the garage so fortunately it didn’t get him. Usually if carbide fails it detaches completely. This tooth literally cracked in half. In short go with another brand. It will be getting returned

Bosch Jigsaw 1590EVSK - It is a sweet tool

Bosch Jigsaw 1590EVSK - It is a sweet tool

This is one of the best tools I think I have bought. I had a cheap Sears jigsaw for years and only used it when I had to. This baby is a joy to use. The T-style blades are just clipped in place and eject with the press of a button. Blade changing is almost fun, no more allen wrenches. The variable speed trigger is very easy to control. The blade rides up and down guided by a set of V shaped ball bearings which hold the blade true (these can be flipped out of the way if wanted). The pow...

Introduction ā€“ After 20+ years of woodworking, I have discovered a couple important facts about routers ā€“ safety is very important and it is convenient to have more than one router. I have had the opportunity to use a number of branded routers, with my favorite two being Porter-Cable and Bosch. This review discusses the Bosch 1617EVS 2.25 HP Variable Speed Router. My priorities included safety, accurate/efficient cuts, performance, quality components, functionality, size, and price. I am ...

I have this same router and I have been very impressed by the power and overall performance of the router. Maybe yours was an isolated case, or maybe mine? Either way I am sorry you have had problems, I would definitely return it. One other thing that made this router pretty sweet was the mini router table I made for it which is awesome for router small pieces and small rabbets. wing79

My new bosch PS20 pocket driver

My new bosch PS20 pocket driver

This is a tool I picked up 2 weeks ago after my 18V power driver would not charge anymore.I originally set to buy a Dewalt from Lowes but ended up buying the Bosch PS20. While shopping there, I noticed they had the smaller footprint driver I have seen in many magazines. As an owner of other Bosch tools I decided to grab the Bosch PS20. Using it last week during assembly of one of my project was a delight. I liked it so much I decided to share a good tool with the LJ community. The packa...

Sweet little tool

Sweet little tool

This is one of those tools that you buy for specific uses, so naturally I hemmed and haw for a while before purchasing. Over the last few months I have experienced using the Fein tool from time to time on different job sites. Once you use this type of tool you under stand the convenience, instead of breaking out you Japanese saw. Iā€™m not one for long winded review, but I will say this Bosch always makes a quality tool and the quality, power and easy of use are on point with the Fein plus it...
