Lee Valley Dripless Glue Bottle

Lee Valley Dripless Glue Bottle

01-28-2012 01:56 PM by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 32 comments »

Not too long ago, I did a blog which asked people what type of glue they liked best for different woodworking projects. Many people stated that they used white or tan wood glue for many of their gluing applications. I often use this type of glue too, not only for my scroll saw projects, but also for building smaller projects such as boxes and things of that nature. One problem that I had was application. Since I used the glue on smaller projects and only in small amounts, I found that t...

Lee Valley Square Hole Punches

Lee Valley Square Hole Punches

11-11-2011 07:27 AM by vipond33 | 23 comments »

This is a review of the Veritas Square Hole Punch, available individually or as a set of six, ranging in size from 3/16” to 1/2” by sixteenths. These punches are most often used for period work such as Greene and Greene style pieces where a raised plug is inserted, or for decorative pierced work (like the ones in my pictures) or for small square mortices. You could also use them as the beginning of much deeper mortises, using the perfect opening created as your guide for furth...

Just the ticket--especially for Festool Boom Arm users.

Just the ticket--especially for Festool Boom Arm users.

Gang, I’m still recovering from the flood (going well!) but having tired myself out already this week, I figured I’d post a review or two. I got the boom arm for my Festool C26 and was shocked to find out that once you install it, you have no place to wrap the (ample) vac cord. A bit of research to find the solution. These cord wrap hooks from Lee Valley mount to almost any kind of tube/bar/board and are just the thing! They also toggle toward the center to allow a quic...

Very handy plane to have

Very handy plane to have

08-02-2011 02:40 PM by funchuck | 2 comments »

I love this plane. I use it all the time. It is a very small plane that fits into the palm of your hand. I bought it from Lee Valley and the picture at Lee Valley makes it seem larger than it really is. I think the person holding it in that picture must have smaller hands because it is a really small plane. When I first bought it, I also bought other things and I had trouble finding it in the box when the parcel came. The iron in it also keeps an edge for a long time. I was very surp...

A Quality Square

A Quality Square

06-09-2011 09:57 PM by brtech | 7 comments »

I’ve been trying to score a Starrett 4” double square on Ebay for a couple of months. I use a snipe service and have bid around $35 on any reasonable item, adjusting based on shipping charges and condition. Lost out on at least a dozen. The going rate is $45+. I scored a 12” combo square with the protractor head and the regular head for $39, but couldn’t get a plain double square. This one is $36.50 new. It’s a bit much, but not bad. It’s very nice...

Teaching a class at Lee Valley

Teaching a class at Lee Valley

04-06-2011 07:07 PM by JuniorJoiner | 13 comments »

I want to start by saying I enjoyed myself and I think the students left with better hand tool and dovetail skills than they started with. I had many handshakes and smiles at the end, so I hope everyone feels that they got their moneys worth of instruction. Now the critique. there was a critique form for the students, but not for me. I had offered to teach a different class, but told them I was flexible if they needed something covered off, which I am. I received an e-mail some weeks la...

Honing Guide

Honing Guide

03-31-2011 01:49 PM by dbray45 | 10 comments »

Bought this and was very surprised. My other honing guide clamps on the sides and edges for the larger blades and has a triangle to hold the smaller chisels and blades. This honing guide clamps on the flat side of the blade and holds it. The guide I give 5 stars. The guide comes with a piece of stick on rubber which I put on the anvil of the guide so that the blade does not move around. The anvil, as I call it, has scribed lines to show if your blade is square to the guide, the rubber ...

Lee Valley Short shank Drill bits A handy accessory

Lee Valley Short shank Drill bits A handy accessory

11-04-2010 10:25 PM by Bob #2 | 10 comments »

I’m starting to feel like the Official Greeter at Lee Valley but here goes.I picked up these bits on a hunch that they would prove useful and now they are part of my mobile drill kit.The size is just perfect for many jobs like starting screws, fitting hinges, etc as the distance from bit to drill is short and gives you a better sense of parallel and more hand force to drive the bit straight. Short Drill Bits The shorter length has saved me grief a couple of times in the last two ...

1/4" drill bit extenders that work

1/4" drill bit extenders that work

05-09-2010 05:21 AM by Bob #2 | 8 comments »

Over the years I’ve probably purchased a half dozen different quarter-inch bit extensions all of which have failed for one reason or another. Either thay were too long or too short or too wobbly or just plain junk and end up frustrating me every time I attempted to use them. This morning I went out to check a couple of vendors that supply these devices to see if there were any improvements. The first store I checked had a set five but they were sealed in plastic and the sales clerk ...

Getting the right fit for hinges and brass screws is problematic

Getting the right fit for hinges and brass screws is problematic

04-02-2010 05:17 PM by Bob #2 | 17 comments »

I had occasion to purchase some extruded brass extra narrow butt hinges for project I’m working on this week around here Lee Valley is the only game in town for this type of hardware.Unfortunately with the help of the counter clerk I managed to bollocks up the matching screw head sizes receive available hinge. Notwithstandingm yet another trip to the store on Saturday morning I found that they suggested head size #4 did not completely match the countersink in these hinges.Nothing in fi...
