Pesky Little Brass Screws and such

Pesky Little Brass Screws and such

Because of a recent post by Betsy I decided to post this review.Auger gimlets are small hand drills that closely match screw sizes and are handy for pre-drilling holes for Little brass screws. I also use them for drilling small holes in small pieces when making toys.I listed them as Lee Valley but they are available elsewhere as they are not made by Lee Valley.I’ve had mine for over 20 years and the smallest is showing some wear, so I would say they are a good investment

No more Screwdriver Hari Kari

No more Screwdriver Hari Kari

If you are like me, at some time in the past you have jab yourself with a screwdriver while attempting to either remove or install the screw btwn the Plane Blade and Chip Breaker. Or I have had blowout when not using the correctly sized screw driver. When I saw this Plane Screwdriver at LV, I knew it was just what I needed. It is reasonably priced at $14.50, which would probably make a nice xmas gift for a fellow woodworker. It fits all types of planes, including my old Stanely #3, LN and...

Lee Valley Brad Point Bits - Set of Seven

Lee Valley Brad Point Bits - Set of Seven

32 days ago by ChicoWoodnut | 7 comments »

I was in need of some brad point bits to drill holes for a set of ball catches I am installing. I have been using regular twist bits and needed something with a centering guide. My set of Irwin Jennings-pattern auger bits don’t go to 1/4”. I looked at brad point bits at the Borg and didn’t like any of the ones I saw. The lip was simply a point ground into the edge of the radial cutter. It didn’t look like it would leave a clean hole on entry and that is what I am ...

Specialized plane that has a lot of uses

I got a great deal on the set of these on ebay, but after using them on my new countertop and router table to trim edge banding I would definately pay full price in a heartbeat. These use the same thick iron and easy adjustment as all the other bevel up planes in the Veritas line. I followed the set up instructions included and was making shavings in just a few moments. After using the set screws to dial in the fit, I pulled out the iron and honed it up to 8000. The back of the iron was a...

The Little Victor Plane from Lee Valley

I bought this little plane mostly on a whim. I am simply amazed by how useful it has turned out to be. It is easy to use either one or two handed. It has Lee Valley quality throughout. The iron was very sharp when I got it. It has a cast iron body that just feels right. I believe the current price is about $35.00.

Lee Valley Bevel Edge Chisels

Lee Valley Bevel Edge Chisels

At $76.00, these chisels are a great buy for all around shop use. I have had them a year now and have re-honed them only once. They really hold an edge. The set goes from 1/4” – 1 1/2”. The oblong handles are comfortable, don’t roll around and can take a real beating. They are better than the Marples and the other big box brands that I have used.
