Steel City bandsaw blade - fooled me

Steel City bandsaw blade - fooled me

213 days ago by Tennessee | 8 comments »

On this site it seems like everyone has their favorite blade. To me, longevity is a biggy, as it is with most woodworkers. For a long time I struggled to find a good bandsaw blade, and it never seemed like I could get more than two months out of a blade. Months ago, back when I was still a one bandsaw shop, (so this has to be before my Grizzly, maybe five-six months ago?), I ordered four Steel City bandsaw blades, 93 1/2, 1/4” thick, 14TPI, from the Home Depot website. The order got m...

After doing some research found this one I looked over the specs and bought it..It has many of the features I wanted. Great tool. Assy went easy, all parts lined up easily a well machined. Comes with 4 chisels and allen wrench, chuck key. Works well has a wide base of 15.5 in with pull out work piece supports that go to 36 in w. I have used a jet before and this works much better. It has a tool holder in back that will hold 4 chisels and chuck key. Rubber rollers hold stock in plac...

a lot of oil

a lot of oil

I love my Steel City helical head planer. After reading many reviews on every portable planer, I went with Steel City. Reading some of the reviews on it, just about everyone said that it is was over protected with grease/oil.I took off all my blades and soaked in mineral spirits overnight and then used a toothbrush to clean the cylinder itself. Even after soaking, cleaning I still get some oil residue 6 months later, but slowly going away. Just be patient and clean as best you can after a...

Steel City 35990G 10" Saw

Steel City 35990G 10" Saw

455 days ago by Dorty | 8 comments »

This is the first time I have written a review on any of my tools, but with me doing so much research before buying my Steel City table saw I figured that it might help someone else find the saw they are looking for. After reading some of the other reviews on Steel City I was a little worried about having trouble with the assembly, but I must say it wasn’t all that bad. They sent two extra pages of instructions (besides the manual) that seemed to address some of the problems that othe...

Steel City Contractor Saw

Steel City Contractor Saw

509 days ago by GoBig | 6 comments »

I’ll start with a little background. This saw is listed as a hybrid saw, supposedly somewhere between a contractors saw and a cabinet saw. When compared to my previous table saws (a 1980’s craftsman contractor and a 5 hp unisaw) I’d saw it is a true hybrid. I decided to replace the unisaw when I had to move across the country. I wanted a saw that worked well, had guards, and could easily be moved around a two car garage. I might get yelled at for this but I didn’t s...

ARE WE GOING BACK TO THESE? A PUZZLING QUESTION HAS BEEN ANSWERED FOR ME, AFTER READING TODD’S REVIEW OF THE STEEL CITY 13” PORTABLE PLANER WITH HELICAL HEAD. 2 DAYS AGO I CALLED HW AND WAS ALL EXCITED BECAUSE I HAD DECIDED TO BUY ONE OF THOSE PLANNERS. I HAD JUST GONE THRU 2 DEWALT PLANERS ,A 733 AND 735 AS THE INSIDES JUST CAME UNDONE.THAT’S ANOTHER STORY FOR WHICH I HAVE FOUND THE ANSWER FOR THESE PUZZLING CIRCUMSTANCES. WHEN A GENTELMAN FROM HW ANSWERED THE PHONE, I...

Sending it back

Sending it back

Note: I’ll keep updating this as things progress. And italic items to clarify my original pronouns to make sure it’s clear when I’m talking about Steel City or Highland, both who are helping me out with the issue as we speak. My original review (2 stars)I was excited to order this planer, and found it online at Highland Woodworking for $100 off. I got it last week, and am really disappointed in it. Although I’d say the fit and finish of it isn’t ideal (s...

Alot to like about this planer...

Alot to like about this planer...

859 days ago by Brad_Nailor | 30 comments »

Well, I have been wanting to get one of these since I first read about them, a ways back. I read all the reviews and really wanted this planer over the DeWalt two speed. I finally got the opportunity to buy one and I took delivery of it about a week after Christmas. I bought it from Highland Hardware..they had it on sale for $499.00, and $48.00 shipping. It came UPS, and it was really heavy. Hand trucked it down to my shop and opened it up. Packed very well, and didn’t seem damaged at ...

Preface The original purpose of this review was to review, in detail, the Steel City 35990G table saw from a first hand user point of view. In the end, I ran into a couple of problems that I just could not put aside. I hope you find the review helpful if you are considering this saw. Purchase & Shipping My wife purchased this saw as a Christmas present. Purchased from Amazon, shipped by freight (Pilot). Pilot missed the delivery date, but delivered the next day and the package lo...

What a long wait...

What a long wait...

1297 days ago by Joe | 9 comments »

I tried to purchase this back in February time frame when WoodCraft had them on sale for 100 dollars off. Well they sold out quick and they put my name down and guaranteed me the 299.00 sale price. They said Steel City had not planned so many would sell at that price. They said that it should only be a few weeks before they got them in. Well two weeks turned into months and after eight months they called and asked if I still wanted it. I said are you still honoring the price of 299 dollars? T...
