Second photo from Rikon~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Reason for buying:I’ve had an old 14” Taiwanese saw for quite a few years, so I looked at some reviews on Band saws, & decided this would be the one for me. I shopped around the internet, & decided to buy it from Woodcraft. It was $750, & free shipping, so I saved $75, enough for a few gallons of gas.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Pros: The price f...

Rikon Drill Press and Orion Mortising Attachment

Rikon Drill Press and Orion Mortising Attachment

I went to the March Madness sale at Woodcraft today and came home with a new benchtop drill press and I grabbed up an Orion mortising attachment while I was there. I caught the eary bird part of the sale so I got an additional 5% off. The drill press retails at Woodcraft for $249.99. For the eary bird deal they take the additional 5% off after they apply the 10% discount so it ended up costing me about $214 before sales tax. It’s a 13” drill press with a 1/2 hp motor. Prett...

Rikon Belt/Disc Sander

Rikon Belt/Disc Sander

07-01-2009 10:26 PM by Wayne Precht | 12 comments »

I came into a little money horse trading some rough oak, so I decided to spend it picking up a couple of much needed tools. The first one is a Rikon 6”x48” Belt / 10” Disc sander. It was on sale at Woodcraft, $50 off. Even though Springfield is a bit of a hike, this weighs a ton, so shipping would have been eye-wateringly expensive. This tool filled a gap in my lineup. Previously I had a little Delta 1”x42” Belt / 6” Disc sander that was just this side of useless for furniture making. A...

1 Unlevel top and 3 warped fences

It was between the Grizzly G0555X, G0513 and the Rikon Deluxe. I deliberated the total cost of ownership and quality of each saw. That meant upgrades, modifications, shipping and the number of years I was sure the saw would be useful to me. Many reviews I read on the grizzly’s said that they had vibration issues so they’d need new poly bands for the wheels and other slight modifications that actually add to the total price. I’ve never been ok with sub-par quality so I knew w...

My experience buying and using the RIKON 10-345 bandsaw.

My experience buying and using the RIKON 10-345 bandsaw.

I have wanted for many years a larger capacity bandsaw to use primarily for resawing and cutting out turning blanks. I am a bargain hunter and looked for a couple of years on and off to find used one. I chased down a few leads but always found them to be under powered, 3 phase, or being in terrible shape and requiring more than I wanted to gamble on restoring them, so I saved up for a new one. I considered a Powermatic, Delta, Grizzley, Jet, Laguna, and RIKON. I live far enough out from a...

rikon 10-325 upgrade

rikon 10-325 upgrade

i have been using a craftsman 20401 14 inch bandsaw for almost 4 years now. not a bad saw at all but not ment to be used to resaw almost every day. needless to say it was showing some wear. started looking at all the saws that were 14 inches both the jett and powermatic only had 15 inch tables too small for me. so that left the ricon only thing i did not like was the guide bearings they are the same as what was on the craftsman. started looking around and found the carter brg,s replaced the b...

Rikon 6" Jointer-Good buy if you can get it for the same price.

Rikon 6" Jointer-Good buy if you can get it for the same price.

After debating for a while on which jointer to get, I decided on this Rikon. This is the first jointer I have owned so I don’t have any other to compare but it is well built compared to the others I have used. When I bought it, Woodcraft had it on clearance for $299, the regular price was $450, I couldn’t pass it up. It comes in 2 separate boxes, base/motor in one and the table/fence in the other, the total shipping weight was around 280 lb’s. The motor comes premounte...

Rikon 10-325-14" Band saw

Rikon 10-325-14" Band saw

I bought this saw back in March from Canadian woodworker in Surrey. The prices at the Grizzly plant are very attractive, but these folks are about 10 min from my place. Doug and his crew are a great bunch of guys. It was on sale for $850 and then I drew a card from a hat and that had a further discount of between $25 – $500. I pulled a $50 card. I got the saw home with no problems, a bit heavy but manageable. Lots and Lots of packaging and styrofoam. There was a good coating of g...

Quality Machine, Quality Customer Service, Highly Recommended!

I received some appletree logs from someone on craigslist, and was contemplating how I can get them into project lumber. I had looked around for small mills, but it wasn’t really worth it since I only have a few smaller logs… then it got me to think, maybe I can do it myself… hence started the interest in bandsaws. the more I researched about it, the more I was fascinated by the capabilities of a bandsaw and all the things it can do. I have a fairly limited budget, and so...

Newest Partner in My Woodworking Escapade...

Hi all…I recently added this to my new arsenal of woodworking machines. Begins with a post that I read either here or on another forum about the old days and using lay-a-way. I saw this saw go on sale at woodcraft for the 999 price and I was excited and sad at the same time. I knew that I needed to upgrade because I didn’t really have what I needed to do what I am now looking to do. So, I was in the local woodcraft having a chat with the owner and we started talking about the ban...
