Questionable Warranty

01-17-2013 11:17 PM by Grumpymike | 65 comments »

I purchased a Ricon 10-325 bandsaw on November 23, 2011 And let me say that I was in hog heaven; however today I discovered that one of the guide bearings was frozen, and I called Ricon Tech Support to request a new bearing under the five year warranty. I was also informed that my saw was not under warranty. The Tech Support Specialest I spoke with was a very well mannered and patient young fellow named Jarred, he informed me that these bearings “are a ‘consume-able’ part...

Second photo from Rikon~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Reason for buying:I’ve had an old 14” Taiwanese saw for quite a few years, so I looked at some reviews on Band saws, & decided this would be the one for me. I shopped around the internet, & decided to buy it from Woodcraft. It was $750, & free shipping, so I saved $75, enough for a few gallons of gas.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Pros: The price f...

I purchased the Rikon 14’ Ultimate Bandsaw during the Woodcraft 2 day sale this past weekend. So far i couldnt be happier with this purchase! Before i bought this saw all i had was a small Craftsman bench top BS from the 80’s so this is a night and day comparison…. although i have used several other BSs in the past. This review is just an overview of my experience… i agree with all the pros and stats on the other reviews so i wont recap them again! Purchase: Like i...

I received some appletree logs from someone on craigslist, and was contemplating how I can get them into project lumber. I had looked around for small mills, but it wasn’t really worth it since I only have a few smaller logs… then it got me to think, maybe I can do it myself… hence started the interest in bandsaws. the more I researched about it, the more I was fascinated by the capabilities of a bandsaw and all the things it can do. I have a fairly limited budget, and so...

1 Unlevel top and 3 warped fences

1 Unlevel top and 3 warped fences

It was between the Grizzly G0555X, G0513 and the Rikon Deluxe. I deliberated the total cost of ownership and quality of each saw. That meant upgrades, modifications, shipping and the number of years I was sure the saw would be useful to me. Many reviews I read on the grizzly’s said that they had vibration issues so they’d need new poly bands for the wheels and other slight modifications that actually add to the total price. I’ve never been ok with sub-par quality so I knew w...

Rikon 8" low speed bench grinder

Rikon 8" low speed bench grinder

I bought this two days ago from Woodcraft as a replacement for the WoodRiver grinder that had so many problems that Woodcraft stopped carrying it. I just got it taken out of the box and plugged it in and it wouldn’t start. The right wheel contacted the wheel guard and stopped cold. I noticed how the guard was pushed over sideways so far that I couldn’t even turn the wheel past it by hand. I bent it back toward center a bit but it still rubs the wheel. But at least I could turn it ...

New saw

New saw

Santa is a good person. Saw into my heart, noted the good fella inside and delivered what is now, without doubt, the highest quality tool in my shop. He left the unit in the store, only asking that I pick it up, load and unload it into the truck, muscle it down into the shop, unpack it, assemble, and tune it up. And that is a lot of work. It weighs 240 lbs.It is hard to move and assemble by one’s self. Kids did not buy the Santa story. Assembly by one who has never really use...

Pulled the trigger and got the Rkon instead of the Jet

Pulled the trigger and got the Rkon instead of the Jet

Well I came to you folks for advice between the Rikon and Jet 18” bandsaw. The overwhelming consensus was Rikon, and at $999 from Highland Woodworking it turned out to be a no brainer. So far the only problem has been its weight. Fighting that beast through the Kitchen and then down the stairs to the basement … lets say the the next homeowners may get such a deal. But back to the saw, I put Highlands 1/2” Woodslicer on it and it and tried my hand at resawing … w...

The Rikon 10-345, 18 inch Bandsaw

The Rikon 10-345, 18 inch Bandsaw

It’s been about 6 weeks since I picked up my new saw so I’ve had some time to create saw dust with it. The Rikon 18 replaced a PC 14 which I’ve used for several years.First impressions. This saw is big, it’s heavy, so if you bring one home, have a friend or two handy. My saw was well packed in it’s shipping crate and had no damage. Assembly amounted to mounting the table, assembling the fence and mounting some hand wheels. Tuning is well covered in the owner...

RIKON 10-351, 14” Professional Bandsaw

RIKON 10-351, 14” Professional Bandsaw

07-17-2015 08:30 PM by John Little | 15 comments »

I purchased this bandsaw to replace my 15+ year old Jet 14”, primarily to gain additional resaw capability and boy does this machine deliver. The 3 hp motor and 14” of resaw height gives me all the capability I could ever use. This is my first Rikon tool and I am impressed with everything about it so far. It is a beast weighing in at over 300 lbs (over 400 in shipping crate). It came well packed in a wooden crate and had no damage. Plan on several helpers to lift it off the pallet. I go...
