Veritas DX60 Low Angle Block Plane is Versatile

Veritas DX60 Low Angle Block Plane is Versatile

When you start looking at a hand plane you can tell pretty quickly if it is well made. This one is. The throat opening adjusts easily, and can close up tightly for fine shavings. The depth adjustment, and angle adjustment is combined into one knob, and is easy to work. Once you dial in your setting there are a pair of set screws that hold the side of the blade in alignment. The blade lock knob is larger diameter than my other planes, which makes it easy to hold the blade steady with mini...

No more aching thumbs

No more aching thumbs

2364 days ago by MrWoody | 6 comments »

I received this last Christmas and hadn’t used it.As anyone who has used a scraper over an extended period of time can attest your thumbs become painful. This morning I needed to do a very small bit of scraping but I have a calcium growth that is interfering with the muscle in my thumb making using it for even small things very painful.I opened a drawer and my scraper holder was sitting there and even had a scraper in it ready to go.This thing works. I won’t be doing anymore scrapi...

A fun joinery plane

A fun joinery plane

2303 days ago by johnjoiner | 14 comments »

First off, I’ll point out that I have nothing to compare this to. I have never used any other plow plane, and have little experience with any other kinds of joinery planes. This is easy and fun to use. No tools are needed to do anything on this. Blade removal and all adjustments are toolless. The only thing I can think of to complain about is access to some of the knobs. I’d say I have average sized hands and fairly dexterous fingers. But I had trouble getting at the knob...

Silent Woodworking...

Silent Woodworking...

Today I got to test out my new Veritas Small Plow Plane. It’s an unusual looking plane that is designed to form grooves (primarily rabbets parallel to the grain). I used it today to form a 3/8” wide by 5/16” deep rabbet to receive the base panel on the wax melter project. At this it was quick, easy and efficient. Compared with a electric router it was nearly silent, was faster to set up, and produced as good a finish without the dangers (to self and timber) of using a router...

This is a short pictorial on setting up the Small Plow to cut T&Gs. This is a new-to-me plane, and I took a few pics as I was working out the kinks and having a little play. I hope this helps some of you. Link: http://www.inthewoodshop.com/ToolReviews/AccessoryBladesfortheVeritasSmallPlow.html Regards from Perth Derek

Premium Saws Indeed

Premium Saws Indeed

So when I first saw the Veritas Dovetail saw and it’s price – I wanted it. I endlessly searched everywhere on the internet for reviews and came up with just a few. Everywhere said “They get great reviews, but I’m not sure…” We I was sold, I wanted to try it out. I never bought it. I said if they had more than one, a matched set or something, that I would get one. Well, they do now. I figured for a little more than the price of one nice doveta...

All around great performer and then some

All around great performer and then some

I got this when it first came out a year or so ago as I wanted something that could handle rabbets and joinery’s edges and this one seemed like a jack of all trades when it comes to that. It is no replacement for a shoulder plane, but I figured I’d use it mostly as a block plane which will also allow me to address some edges, rabbets etc. The plane itself is a beautiful designed product and the materials and machining is superb – a real gem. it is very hefty and feels sol...

Veritas Mk.II Power Sharpening System Quick Review - VIDEO

Hi Folks, As promised, a quick tour of the Veritas Mk.II Sharpening System. In the video I seem to use back bevel and micro bevel interchangeably. This is a mistake and is due to doing these videos at 1am when I should be ”sawing logs,” in bed. However, here it is… Cheers!

Sweet Jig

Sweet Jig

1905 days ago by Smeric28 | 18 comments »

Though i thought it was a little expensive when I bought it from woodcrafters I think this honing jig is awesome. I use the scary sharp system and it works great for it. the best part about this jig is that the guide you attach let’s you set a consistent square bevel every time. when you try it you’ll be surprised how far some of your chisels have gotten from spec. I found a few things about the jig confusing (the manual wasn’t very clear) so i’ll give you guys some...
