Veritas Small Scraping Plane

Veritas Small Scraping Plane

There are things you can do with a scraper that would defeat even the finest of hand planes. The micro geometry of their cut produces a Type II shaving, yielding a perfect surface even going fully against interlocked grain or over knots. I use a variety of scrapers and for spot work nothing beats a card type or even an ordinary paint scraper. One problem with these types is that they will follow any undulations on the existing surface as they have no registration (sole). For larger wor...

Veritas Low Angle Jack Plane

Veritas Low Angle Jack Plane

Purchasing: Done online, no problems, and delivered well packaged on the date promised. Quality: Very impressed. All parts are closely machined and close tolerance. Sole flat, sides square, and irons sharp, but I did hone them with 2000 grit wet/dry paper (scary sharp method) and green buffing compound. Comparability: Comes in a little larger than a Bailey #5 (more like 5 1/2), in width, length and weight. Iron width is 2 1/4” vs #5 Bailey at 2” and #6 at 2 3/8”. Hand...

Veritas Set-Up Blocks(ed. note: This is a companion post from www.randallprice.com).For the first tool review on www.randallprice.com I’ve chosen a one that is by far the of the most often used tools in my shop and one that has raised the accuracy and precision of my work to a new level – Veritas® Set-Up Blocks. As you may have already found, transferring measurements is a much more accurate method of set up than taking a measurement from a rule. This is where the Veritas set-u...

Veritas 1:6 Dovetail Saw Guide Model 05T02.01

Veritas 1:6 Dovetail Saw Guide Model 05T02.01

I got this wonderful little guide for Christmas and just now had my first opportunity to try it out. It took me a couple of minutes to wrap my head around how it works, but once I did, I was pretty impressed. You set the clamp in one set of grooves for the tails, and then slide it off and set it into a second set of grooves for the pins. I say set of grooves, but that’s somewhat misleading. There are three grooves in all, but the center groove serves double duty and is used in both orie...

Great scraper burnisher

Great scraper burnisher

917 days ago by Tennwood | 12 comments »

I had a Woodcraft coupon about to expire and no other great needs at the time, so I bought the Veritas Variable Burnisher on a whim. (Actually what I went in for they didn’t have in stock that day). I normally sharpen my scrapers using a wet stone and round burnisher getting ok results. I can always get shavings, but not like they should be. Retail cost of the Veritas is $32.50, but with my coupon, I figured I couldn’t loose too much. It turned out to be a great deal. The i...

Veritas T-Slot Router Bit

Veritas T-Slot Router Bit

26 days ago by Lumberpunk | 9 comments »

I love this bit, have owned for about a year now and used on several projects. At $22 Canadian I figure I have saved $60 or $70 on buying t-track for my jigs. The bit will cut a slot full depth straight off but I find it best to hog out most of the waste with a 1/4 or 5/16 bit first and then cut the slot. Tend to leave some furry bits on the top of the slot… easily cleaned up with a few strokes with some sand paper. Living way out in the country it also means I can have t-track anytime...

Be careful when using this product because it’ll help you get your blades so sharp you could cut yourself by holding them by the handle… This tool is remarkably simple to use and accurate. I especially like the quick micro-bevel setup. If you are not sharpening blades on a regular bases so that you are comfortable holding them at the precise angel you want them while sharpening – this guide will double and triple the value of your blade! I am the weekend warrior, and a...
