Black and Decker's Dragster Lost the Race

Black and Decker's Dragster Lost the Race

I am giving this sander two stars, I went to the HD with plans to splurge on an expensive belt sander, instead I saw this by black and decker. I have a black and decker 1/3 sheet finishing sander that has served me well so I decided to give them a shot on their belt sander (not to mention the temptation of saving some money for a few other things that I could buy for my shop) The features looked nice; adjustable front handle, flip up guard, tapered nose, but the front roller for the belt kep...

Black & Decker JS660 Type 1 Jig saw

Black & Decker JS660 Type 1 Jig saw

Well I got this Jig Saw at Ace Hardware and I am very pleased. I saw that it came with a 2 year warranty. I also saw its reviews which where all 4-5 stars! Another thing that struck me was how many features it had. After I un boxed it I felt it and it felt very well built. I ran some tests and it cut all types of wood with ease! It can make fairly sharp turns and the cuts are pretty clean. So if you are looking for a new Jig saw any time soon please consider this one!

Should last longer than 35 days. Right?

Should last longer than 35 days. Right?

I loved the design of this sander! It is very light, handles are in perfect positions, BUT not impressed with the life of the one I bought. I used it only a few times and it started smoking. It seems to get hot quickly. I have not returned it yet, but I will be very soon. I know I didn’t apply to much pressure because I was just knocking a rough edge down on a 5” corner board. Anyone else have any luck with this sander? I would like to get another but kinda gun shy now̷...

Piece of junk

Piece of junk

Not much of a review. Not knowing better, we purchased this years ago and I have used it every since. However, it wasn’t until today that I realized what a piece of crap it really is. I came to this conclusion after using it side by side with a Hitachi M12vc. How did I happen to use them side by side? The piece of crap died while I was using it so I opened the M12VC which I purchased last Christmas. I had never used it. Frankly, I had not used ANY router since last year. Whatever ...

Surprisingly Good

Surprisingly Good

Black & Decker tools suck. That’s the general consensus from woodworkers the world over. After my Firestorm circular saw couldn’t rip a piece of 4/4 pine, I tend to agree. However, the Workmate is the exception. This sweet little puppy is just the ticket for a new woodworker. In one little package, you get a workbench, a vise, and even saw horses. It’s fairly easy to assemble, but the instructions could be better. In an effort to put as few steps as possible on ...

A mind of its own

A mind of its own

This is a tool I wish I never would have purchased. I would have prefered to get by using a coping saw and dealing with a blister or thirty. This tool generates such a level of frustration that it is amazing that the same engineers who design Dewalt, Porter Cable, and Delta could allow such a monstrosity to leave the lab. This particular unit has a quick blade release, variable speed, variable orbital action and an adjustable base. The quick blade release does release the blade quickly ...

Sawhorse with an attitude!

Sawhorse with an attitude!

I just got my B&D Workmate 125 put together. I’d heard horror stories about the assembly process, in fact, the guy that sold it to me at the B&D outlet told me not to pay too much attention to the instructions. He was right. The instructions are terrible, but I still got it together in about 30-45 minutes while watching TV. Granted, a number of the holes for the bolts didn’t line up very well, but with a set of vise grips, a few hammer taps and minimal cursing, it went...

Big bang for little buck

Big bang for little buck

Just to start, my oldest daughter Karen was cleaning polish off of her nails at the dining room table when she accidentally tipped over the bottle of nail polish remover. It proceeded to run across the table top and eat through the finish… I decided to strip down the top of the table and refinish it, but I knew that my random orbital sander was on it’s last leg so in a way… this gave me good justification for a new shop tool! Now for the review… I was originally...

Great Shed

Great Shed

I know what you are thinking, why is a woodworker building a plastic shed. Three reasons: (1) to build one of the same size would be more expensive and (2) the marketing information says it takes 3 hours to install and (3) 5 year warranty. We have been needing a shed for a while and were eying these at Canadian Tire. When they finally went on sale we went for it. You definitely need either a trailer or pickup to bring this home. I tried to fit it in the back of my SUV but it was too bi...

Good for a Black & Decker

Good for a Black & Decker

This was my first real drill. I know Black & Decker gets a lot of knocks here, but it really wasn’t too bad a drill. I’ve had this drill for probably 5 years. I’ve done a lot of home improvements with it. This includes: Installation of a new garage door opener Putting up a patio lattice made of all pressure treated lumber (6×8s, 4×8x, 4×4s, 2×6s) Various wood working projects (mostly shelves and storage). I have used it to drill 3...
