This is the last nail in B&D’s coffin where I’m concerned. I saw this set in my local hardware store and thought it would be a handy thing to have in the van – you know, just in case.I managed to bore three holes before the first drill bit snapped in half. The driver bits are good for about a dozen screws before they round off at the tip. The drill bits that don’t snap are very poor quality – it’s almost as if the tips are ground off centre, they want t...

Black & Decker RTX

Black & Decker RTX

I have a couple of the more well known rotary tools but they always seemed underpowered, especially when you put router style cutters in them. I had read when these first came out about them having much more torque for that type of work. I think these are one of the best things this company has made in years. I have one that I’ve been using for four years or so, its held up well enough that I have a couple backups. I’ve run router cutters in carving setups and you can really hog ...

A low cost alternative to the Milwaukee M12 driver

A low cost alternative to the Milwaukee M12 driver

281 days ago by Jofa | 12 comments »

One of my buddies at HD has a Milwaukee M12 driver and it’s awesome. Light, small and tons of torque. I just couldn’t swing the $100. So I was at WalMart and started looking around at the tool section. They had a little B&D 7.2V Lithium Ion drill driver displayed for $30 but it was out of stock. So I asked the kid working there if they would sell me the next one up for the same price. He asked the manager and we got “of course!”. Plus:- Excellent, accura...

Should last longer than 35 days. Right?

Should last longer than 35 days. Right?

I loved the design of this sander! It is very light, handles are in perfect positions, BUT not impressed with the life of the one I bought. I used it only a few times and it started smoking. It seems to get hot quickly. I have not returned it yet, but I will be very soon. I know I didn’t apply to much pressure because I was just knocking a rough edge down on a 5” corner board. Anyone else have any luck with this sander? I would like to get another but kinda gun shy now̷...

Piece of junk

Piece of junk

Not much of a review. Not knowing better, we purchased this years ago and I have used it every since. However, it wasn’t until today that I realized what a piece of crap it really is. I came to this conclusion after using it side by side with a Hitachi M12vc. How did I happen to use them side by side? The piece of crap died while I was using it so I opened the M12VC which I purchased last Christmas. I had never used it. Frankly, I had not used ANY router since last year. Whatever ...

Black & Decker JS660 Type 1 Jig saw

Black & Decker JS660 Type 1 Jig saw

Well I got this Jig Saw at Ace Hardware and I am very pleased. I saw that it came with a 2 year warranty. I also saw its reviews which where all 4-5 stars! Another thing that struck me was how many features it had. After I un boxed it I felt it and it felt very well built. I ran some tests and it cut all types of wood with ease! It can make fairly sharp turns and the cuts are pretty clean. So if you are looking for a new Jig saw any time soon please consider this one!

Black and Decker's Dragster Lost the Race

Black and Decker's Dragster Lost the Race

I am giving this sander two stars, I went to the HD with plans to splurge on an expensive belt sander, instead I saw this by black and decker. I have a black and decker 1/3 sheet finishing sander that has served me well so I decided to give them a shot on their belt sander (not to mention the temptation of saving some money for a few other things that I could buy for my shop) The features looked nice; adjustable front handle, flip up guard, tapered nose, but the front roller for the belt kep...

cordless brad nailer

cordless brad nailer

Never owned a nailer before but I gotta say that this is a winner. It comes w/ a pack of nails in all sizes. I bought this particular one off of fleabay for $60 and $15 shipping. Having already bought a few of the 18v products, I did not need a battery. This would explain the somewhat low cost. The gun feels good in your hand, but has maybe a slight delay upon triggering(I adapted easily to that). After I bought the nailer I went to Amazon to read the reviews. There are some bad review...

Not Bad For The Money...

Not Bad For The Money...

I have a 14.4V and 18.0V Ryobi drill, both with NiCad batteries. They’re heavy. I use them more for driving screws than anything else, so I decided I wanted a lighter battery powered driver of some sort. Looking in the big box stores, I saw units that were in the $200 plus range, some more than double the price of either of my Ryobis (and the 18 volt came with a circular saw!). Then I spotted this little Black and Decker PD400LG Power Driver. It weighs nothing. Okay, maybe a half-pou...

Perfect for whacking things with sandpaper

Perfect for whacking things with sandpaper

1632 days ago by Wiley | 6 comments »

I bought this sander several years before I got into woodworking, when I didn’t know better. I finally replaced it yesterday, and can’t even ethically put it on craigslist. Hopefully enough googling will reveal the proper incantation to banish it back to the depths of hell from whence it came. The main problem is that it does not, as sanders generally do, vibrate from side to side. Instead, it vibrates in all dimensions equally. This has three main effects: first, it very quickly ...
