Digital readout for my router table

Digital readout for my router table

1749 days ago by GaryK | 9 comments »

My woodpeckers PRL router lift is pretty accurate with it’s little gauge, but I liked some of the features of a digital readout. I actually bought this about 3 months ago and just got around to mounting it the other day. Now that it’s a lot cooler I will start putting a lot more time in the shop. One of the things that I liked most about it is the ABS/INC (Absolute or Incremental) function. Every time you change your bit on the router it changes your Zero setting on your rea...

Fabricating iGaging DRO for 15" Planer

Fabricating iGaging DRO for 15" Planer

962 days ago by rawdawgs50 | 5 comments »

I wanted my planer to have digitized measuring but did not want to spend a couple hundred doing this. I recently purchased a Digital Read Out …DRO…from iGaging. I got it on amazon for $33.50 plus free shipping. When I received the unit, the lcd screen protector was cracked. The LCD protector is actually glass. I contacted iGaging and they responded very fast to my email, and after a few questions they shipped out another unit the next business day. Even though I live in Florid...

igaging Router lift

igaging Router lift

just purchased and installed the igaging MAGNETIC REMOTE DIGITAL ROUTERLIFT, bought this from Eagle America, it was about $20 cheaper than the Wixey, can’t say it is better, I have not tried the Wixey, but thought I would try this one.the installation instructions were not the best I have seen, but after studying them it was easy enough to figure out, the worst part was having to drill and tap holes in my Jessem router lift so it could be mounted, I broke one tap, so I had to move the p...

Angle reader/finder

Angle reader/finder

1334 days ago by Dan | 21 comments »

I recently learned how to sharpen my own chisels and plane irons. I was having a hard time when it came to all the different bevels. I bought a cheaper honing jig that works well but it does not measure the angle I am honing. I tried using a protractor and had some success but I still felt I was off. I was looking at Rockler tools online and saw this item was on sale. It had good reviews and the price seemed good so I ordered it. The item arrived ready to use. There were no complicated ...

Great little square for the price.

Great little square for the price.

1409 days ago by docholladay | 9 comments »

First off let me say that I have several Starrett and Brown & Sharpe squares, dividers and other layout tools. I have a 4” Starrett Double square that I love, but sometimes it is just too small. I had been looking for a matching 6” square. I saw this one on the Eagle America website recently and it happened to be on sale so I decided to take a chance an order one. I was fully expecting a cheap pot metal square with stamped steel blade. When I opened it up, I was very plea...

Digital Height Gauge

Digital Height Gauge

1886 days ago by Routerisstillmyname | 3 comments »

Some indulgence on my part and to treat my self to more digital technology. This height gauge (although by no means a requirement in the shop) sure makes height adjustment a breeze and fun for saw blades, dado stack and router bits. The read out can display inches, mm and fractional with ABS and hold functions. It is extremely solid built with heavy thick base that has magnets. The rest/measuring arm is also ¼ inch thickSo it rests nice on the blades and bits. Has a smooth travel with no play a...

The squares I got were half accurate

The squares I got were half accurate

I ordered these from Hartville Tool through Amazon. I thought the price and specs looked good and I wanted them for setting up my table and other saws. I was also drawn to them due to the wood box. When I got them I held them up to each other to test them. The outsides of the blades all seem true – I couldn’t see any light between the blades of different squares. When I placed one square inside another to test the squareness and insides of the blades I could see varying degrees...

Nice little Digital Depth Indicator

Nice little Digital Depth Indicator

1687 days ago by GaryK | 15 comments »

Being a sucker for new tools, when I got an e-mail for this I couldn’t pass it up for the price. You want to check the depth of a dado or a rabbet? This little thing will do the job. Make a little “U” shaped block with a hole thought it and then use it to straddle your saw blade or router bit and use it to set your depth of cut. One real nice thing about it is the tab on the back. It’s exactly like the one your find on the back of dial indicators so you can mount...

Don't Bother

Don't Bother

1246 days ago by Routerisstillmyname | 16 comments »

Long story short. This is my second iGaging angle block. The first had a defective LCD on top of displaying constant error even with a fresh battery. This one the LCD is ok but even at a sale price of 20 it’s waste of money since you may have to spend at least half of that in gas returning and exchanging.Measured against all my engineering squares and then some and two other Wixey’s this thing is so off that’s not even funny. The problem is also inconsistency. It’s not always off by sam...

Almost got it right.

Almost got it right.

Well, even though I‘ve had a Wixey Protractor( http://lumberjocks.com/reviews/549 ) that is dead on 100% accurate, measured against all my engineering squares and then some, At only $15 on sale, I could not resist picking one of these up.Why you might ask. Well, The Wixey even though is accurate; it has two main shortcomings. One, it is impossible to lock it in place. Second, it does not have the hold function, which should have been incorporated since it will not lock tight. On the other hand...
