I recently learned how to sharpen my own chisels and plane irons. I was having a hard time when it came to all the different bevels. I bought a cheaper honing jig that works well but it does not measure the angle I am honing. I tried using a protractor and had some success but I still felt I was off. I was looking at Rockler tools online and saw this item was on sale. It had good reviews and the price seemed good so I ordered it. The item arrived ready to use. There were no complicated ...

It's made of plastic !

It's made of plastic !

I use my digital calipers a lot and I tend to be hard on them. I’ve dropped them and poured stuff on them and it seems like I am buying new ones often. I saw this particular caliper on sale for half price – only $14.99. I didn’t need one at the time, but I know that I will eventually need another one so “why not?”. I never imagined that it would be made of plastic. It has a very cheap, flimsy feel to it and it does not have the normal little turn whe...

Don't Bother

Don't Bother

Long story short. This is my second iGaging angle block. The first had a defective LCD on top of displaying constant error even with a fresh battery. This one the LCD is ok but even at a sale price of 20 it’s waste of money since you may have to spend at least half of that in gas returning and exchanging.Measured against all my engineering squares and then some and two other Wixey’s this thing is so off that’s not even funny. The problem is also inconsistency. It’s not always off by sam...

Nice little Digital Depth Indicator

Nice little Digital Depth Indicator

Being a sucker for new tools, when I got an e-mail for this I couldn’t pass it up for the price. You want to check the depth of a dado or a rabbet? This little thing will do the job. Make a little “U” shaped block with a hole thought it and then use it to straddle your saw blade or router bit and use it to set your depth of cut. One real nice thing about it is the tab on the back. It’s exactly like the one your find on the back of dial indicators so you can mount...

Everything I wanted in a digital caliper

Everything I wanted in a digital caliper

Sold by the same folks who sell the Accuremote digital inclinometer. I chose the IP54 after watching a thorough review on Youtube by Gadget Class. Inside the retail box was a decent plastic case that held the caliper, two batteries, the instructions, and a random piece of brown waxed paper (no idea why that was in there) but it was 0.004” thick. Both batteries were good. The plastic case that came with mine is slightly different than the picture on Amazon. Of course I set out to meas...

Solid on the outside, issues with accuracy and precision

Solid on the outside, issues with accuracy and precision

From the outside in … The packaging was attractive and consistent with other products sold by iGaging (makes no difference but shows the company takes some pride in their products). Inside the retail box was a sturdy white cardboard box that contained the inclinometer, a nice storage pouch, the instructions, a 9V battery, and a tiny screwdriver. I expected the AccuRemote to be made of plastic but it’s actually a cast metal, possibly zinc, quite sturdy and heavier than expected. Th...

Digital readout for my router table

Digital readout for my router table

My woodpeckers PRL router lift is pretty accurate with it’s little gauge, but I liked some of the features of a digital readout. I actually bought this about 3 months ago and just got around to mounting it the other day. Now that it’s a lot cooler I will start putting a lot more time in the shop. One of the things that I liked most about it is the ABS/INC (Absolute or Incremental) function. Every time you change your bit on the router it changes your Zero setting on your rea...

Great little square for the price.

Great little square for the price.

First off let me say that I have several Starrett and Brown & Sharpe squares, dividers and other layout tools. I have a 4” Starrett Double square that I love, but sometimes it is just too small. I had been looking for a matching 6” square. I saw this one on the Eagle America website recently and it happened to be on sale so I decided to take a chance an order one. I was fully expecting a cheap pot metal square with stamped steel blade. When I opened it up, I was very plea...

The squares I got were half accurate

The squares I got were half accurate

I ordered these from Hartville Tool through Amazon. I thought the price and specs looked good and I wanted them for setting up my table and other saws. I was also drawn to them due to the wood box. When I got them I held them up to each other to test them. The outsides of the blades all seem true – I couldn’t see any light between the blades of different squares. When I placed one square inside another to test the squareness and insides of the blades I could see varying degrees...

Great Value

Great Value

I picked up this digital caliper for around $30 at a local Rockler. So far I couldn’t be happier. I compared it to a $100+ Mitutoyo at work and they were within a half a thousandth at full scale (5-6 inches). It also has a larger battery, so I’m hoping that it will last longer than the smaller watch battery types. Whats in the box: 6” digital caliper, case, 2 batteries (one installed, one spare). http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=24524
