GOBSMACKED WITH DISBELIEF - Can this really be true?!!!

I am so glad I took the precaution of calling Skil’s support department before I purchased this SANDER. Not understanding how I would be able to replace the sandpaper on the detail accessories I called to ask. I was ASTONISHED to be told that the sandpaper on the 8 detail accessories can NOT be replaced, rather you have to BUY A NEW SET OF DETAIL SANDERS EVERY TIME THE SANDPAPER ON THEM WEARS DOWN. NOTE: I’ve edited this part of the original post because of new informatio...

My Skil 3320 Drill Press

My Skil 3320 Drill Press

My drill press is the third bench top tool I bought for my shop. For the price range I think it was a great buy. Out of the box it assembled easily and has served me well. The cross hair laser is helpful for hitting the mark and the on/off switch is right in the front for immediate access. Speed changes are made by moving the drive belt up or down a pair of stepped pulleys. The square table has slots to allow attachment of hold downs or a table. If I had any complaint, it’s that the...

Bargain Tool Review - Skil 9" 2.5-Amp Band Saw (3385-012)

Bargain Tool Review - Skil 9" 2.5-Amp Band Saw (3385-012)

I finally got a chance last night to use the bench-top band saw that I picked up a few months ago. My local Lowes sells it for for about $120 plus tax, but I grabbed it on sale, refurbished, at CPO for $69 back in January or February.I had been looking at the PC 14? floor saw, but at $400+, but I had a tough time justifying it at this point. I’m really on a Porter-Cable kick lately. I’m so happy with both the PC joiner and planer that I got last year. Anyhow, back to this band saw review...

Good Sander with Lots of Little Features

Good Sander with Lots of Little Features

I bought this sander after minor in-store deliberation because it seemed like the best deal. I got it a little over a year ago for $40 on sale at Sears. It comes with a bunch of detail attachments for specific jobs. They look useful, but I haven’t really used them. The sander came with paper for each of the attachments, in assorted grits (60-80-120). The “pressure control” is basically a system of lights that tell you how much pressure you are applying. Could be useful, but ...

Skil 91024 24-Piece Carbide Router Bit Set

Skil 91024 24-Piece Carbide Router Bit Set

So I just got these off of Amazon. I know that they are not the highest quality set, but they were better than what I had (nothing). I have used Skil bits before and while they certainly not the best, they have always gotten the job done for me. Again for the price (less than $45) it was hard to say no. Mostly I wanted to make this post because when trying to research this set I could not find anything anywhere regarding what is included in this set and I figured now that I have it in my h...

Model ending in 01 has factory problems

Model ending in 01 has factory problems

Unfortunately this very nice bench top drill press with twin laser guides has a few glitches. The table platform will not tighten no matter how tight you turn the crank. number two the belt adjustment does not move. So what looked promising and great value for a wood shop was returned to factory for replacement for the upgraded 02 model. I must say that Bosch who owns Skill acknowledged the problem and are sending me the return stiicker, no hassle. Getting back to the press, for normal DIY woo...

Nice little Benchtop for what it is

Nice little Benchtop for what it is

Ok I know many of you would never even consider a tool made by Skil because they are low end but I have been happy with a couple of their products. I am by no means an experienced woodworker but just a guy starting out and that likes to make things. First off the saw has a large amount of plastic in it but I really don’t see where metal would be superior except if you bang it around alot. The motor bogs down a little bit when cutting curves in 1/2” oak with a 3/8” blade...

1/2 lock miter router bit

1/2 lock miter router bit

I saw this while looking through the router bits at Lowes. I never heard of of a lock miter router bit and feeling adventurous I decided to drop the thirty dollars for it in hopes of upping my abilities to build a better quality box. I read the instructions and set it up in my router table. The instructions suggest having a few pieces to practice on, and believe me they weren’t kidding. It says that you can use it on boards up to 3/4 in. but I would do it a little shy. The nature o...

On The Expensive Side For What It Offers

On The Expensive Side For What It Offers

Right from the moment I pulled this saw from the box my heart sank a little bit. With a street price in the $120 range, I guess I expected a bit more than the average $50 DIY type circular saws offer. It’s built like a cheap saw, has the features of a cheap saw, and basically sells from the virtues of it’s unique size. It’s also a butt ugly drab gray, which wouldn’t really matter if Skil would up their game a little bit. It does offer an interesting design that fi...

Skil 10 in 15 amp tablesaw

Yo whats up everybody on Wednesday of this week I got my skil tablesaw and I just wanted to give a quick review of it. Now the tablesaw setup will be episodes 40,41,42. In episode 42 I give a quick review of the saw after I make my first cut. Now I have used powermatic, delta/rockwell, jet,and dewalt tablesaws before and this one stood out. For the price I recommend this saw to anyone. The only problem I saw with it was that it didnt have extension wings and I was kinda pissed that it didn...
