Skil 91024 24-Piece Carbide Router Bit Set

Skil 91024 24-Piece Carbide Router Bit Set

So I just got these off of Amazon. I know that they are not the highest quality set, but they were better than what I had (nothing). I have used Skil bits before and while they certainly not the best, they have always gotten the job done for me. Again for the price (less than $45) it was hard to say no. Mostly I wanted to make this post because when trying to research this set I could not find anything anywhere regarding what is included in this set and I figured now that I have it in my h...

Model ending in 01 has factory problems

Model ending in 01 has factory problems

409 days ago by woodklutz | 3 comments »

Unfortunately this very nice bench top drill press with twin laser guides has a few glitches. The table platform will not tighten no matter how tight you turn the crank. number two the belt adjustment does not move. So what looked promising and great value for a wood shop was returned to factory for replacement for the upgraded 02 model. I must say that Bosch who owns Skill acknowledged the problem and are sending me the return stiicker, no hassle. Getting back to the press, for normal DIY woo...

Nice little Benchtop for what it is

Nice little Benchtop for what it is

Ok I know many of you would never even consider a tool made by Skil because they are low end but I have been happy with a couple of their products. I am by no means an experienced woodworker but just a guy starting out and that likes to make things. First off the saw has a large amount of plastic in it but I really don’t see where metal would be superior except if you bang it around alot. The motor bogs down a little bit when cutting curves in 1/2” oak with a 3/8” blade...

1/2 lock miter router bit

1/2 lock miter router bit

579 days ago by Edward83 | 10 comments »

I saw this while looking through the router bits at Lowes. I never heard of of a lock miter router bit and feeling adventurous I decided to drop the thirty dollars for it in hopes of upping my abilities to build a better quality box. I read the instructions and set it up in my router table. The instructions suggest having a few pieces to practice on, and believe me they weren’t kidding. It says that you can use it on boards up to 3/4 in. but I would do it a little shy. The nature o...

On The Expensive Side For What It Offers

On The Expensive Side For What It Offers

Right from the moment I pulled this saw from the box my heart sank a little bit. With a street price in the $120 range, I guess I expected a bit more than the average $40 DIY type circular saws offer. Unfortunately, I didn’t get it. It’s built like a cheap saw, has the features of a cheap saw, and basically sells from the virtues of it’s unique size. It’s also a butt ugly drab gray, which wouldn’t really matter if Skil would up their game a little bit. It do...

Yo whats up everybody on Wednesday of this week I got my skil tablesaw and I just wanted to give a quick review of it. Now the tablesaw setup will be episodes 40,41,42. In episode 42 I give a quick review of the saw after I make my first cut. Now I have used powermatic, delta/rockwell, jet,and dewalt tablesaws before and this one stood out. For the price I recommend this saw to anyone. The only problem I saw with it was that it didnt have extension wings and I was kinda pissed that it didn...

Skil Worm gear saw

Skil Worm gear saw

1122 days ago by Don K. | 14 comments »

I know many woodworkers do not use a “Worm gear” saw because it is not precise enough for fine detail cutting. But at times I still find I need to use one (other than in my remodel business). A few weeks ago, (before easter) I was asked to build a project for my church (A 20ft tall mountain for a Easter play) and I pulled out my trusty 20+ year old Skil worm drive saw to begin work. Guess what, didn’t work anymore. So I jumped in my truck and head down to my local Lowe’...

skil 6 in grinder

skil 6 in grinder

This grinder is a good grinder to start off with but you need to replace the crappy gray wheels that come with the grinder you should get the white ones with dont wear off as much but other than that it is a nice grinder. A good add on is to build bigger platforms or tools rests because the ones that come with this are not very big for a no. 7 jointer plane blade. This grinder costs about $50.00 and their are things to upgrade but nobody buys a a $2000 cabinet saw and doesnt upgrade the fenc...

skil 10 in compound miter saw

skil 10 in compound miter saw

this miter saw is a very nice saw and has a lot of features you would find on a bigger saw. The bevel adjustment is a handle you turn and the saw becomes loose to turn to the left it is only a single bevel saw but it does go 49’ in each direction for miters. It also has the most common angles for crwn molding marked so they are easy to find. I bought my saw for $100 so it not cheap but aint $1300 like the kapex is I take it on jobs with me all the time so this saw can take a beating. Th...

Powerful saw for carpentry work

Powerful saw for carpentry work

1262 days ago by ferstler | 6 comments »

OK, there have been lots of reviews published about this saw, both in magazine reports and on the internet. However, I have not written any of those reviews. So, here goes my shot at fame. This is a great saw, BUT it is a saw built for use by strong men with strong arms, or at least one strong arm. Why, well, its magnesium case notwithstanding, at 14 pounds it is still very heavy for a circular saw. However, what you get in return is a left-side blade that makes it easier to guide to a scr...
