Excellent budget blade!

Excellent budget blade!

53 days ago by Mike Gager | 23 comments »

I just recently bought this blade after reading some of the reviews on the home depot website. I am very satisfied with it and think its an excellent choice for someone on a budget wanting a nice cutting blade. I havent used any of the high end blades such as the forrest woodworker2 but i would be mighty surprised if they cut that much better then this blade does. I tried it on red oak, pine, douglas fir, MDF, and particle board melamine and it left a super smooth cut in all of them with no t...

Best Value on a sander

Best Value on a sander

319 days ago by kshipp | 18 comments »

I have had this sander for almost a year now and have used it on a few projects. I was just working on a rocking horse project (link coming soon) and was reminded how much I like this tool. I originally got it for the oscillating spindle and just figured the oscillating belt was a bonus feature. The belt is probably the feature I use the most and it has come in handy numerous times. The table came almost perfectly flat but there are also adjustment screws on the table so you can make it pe...

Ridgid JP0610 Jointer/Planer

Ridgid JP0610 Jointer/Planer

411 days ago by ferstler | 21 comments »

OK, before I purchased the JP0610 I owned a 30-inch Delta JT160 tabletop jointer/planer. (Shown to the right in the wider-angle photo.) I still have the thing and now store it on a shelf where it can be quickly hauled out onto my shop’s workdeck for rough-and-tumble work that does not involve longer boards. The 45-inch-bed Ridgid JP unit has replaced it as a precision tool (some have complained of table alignment problems, but mine seems perfect in that respect), and of course the ne...

One square, two square...

One square, two square...

...on your way to four-square, this jointer just can’t be beat. I wasn’t looking for high end professional quality in a jointer, and I wanted something more than a benchtop unit. I came across this jointer available at your local HD for $399. I decided to buy it based on the predominance of 4 and 5 star reviews at their site. The unit is easy to assemble, however you should definitely have two bodies to handle delivery, and physical assembly. (I can pickup my DeWalt 735 p...

Well worth the money

Well worth the money

I find this sander outstanding to use. I purchased this when I realized I would be sanding forever on all those little pieces that made up the two excavator I built. Very easy to use and changing belt to spindle is a snap. Just remember it has left handed threads. I have read on the internet that people had problems with the tracking on the belt. Sure, mine did not track straight right out of the box, but it took a total of 15 seconds for it to track dead straight. You set it once and that’s ...

Ridgid 4511 Granite Table Saw: Really good saw at a great price.

Ridgid 4511 Granite Table Saw: Really good saw at a great price.

I thought I’d post a review of my Ridgid 4511 Granite table saw for those who are interested. I purchased this in the spring w/ the ultimate power deal (or whatever they call it) for about $450. I’ve used it for several small projects now and have been pleased w/ the saw, but like most things in life, it wasn’t perfect. Pros:Granite top is uberflat. And hard. And rust free. Nice fence, easy to adjust and accurate, also easy to add faces (UHMW, etc) Herculift base is really amazin...

Ridgid R4511 10 in. Granite Top Table Saw

To be fair , I was waiting to write this review after I tackled the last (and only) issue I’ve had with this saw as to give a proper review of it’s operation, and not limited by any aspect of missing/malfunctioning parts out-of-the-box. my ‘limitation’ was that the fence had a slight disposition issue once locked all the way down (was fine if locked half way – it would stay put and stay on the mark – but if the lock handle was pushed further, it would skew ...

Ridgid Sub compact drill drive set

Ridgid Sub compact drill drive set

I’ve been using a couple of offshore 18 volt Ni cads for about a year as my Dewalts wont hold a charge any longer and I saw no advantage to replacing their batteries.I had been looking at the Ridgid standard 18 volt Li cordless but when I saw this one at the Borg I had to try it. The tools are very compact and feel well made with a good balance although heavy for their size, I can live with that as they are still lighter than my old drills. The torque is amazing and blew me away at 12 vo...

Ridgid BS1400 Band Saw

Ridgid BS1400 Band Saw

411 days ago by ferstler | 20 comments »

Note: while this review is of the BS1400 model, the owner’s manual calls it the BS14002. I do not know if the addition of the number 2 signifies an upgrade or is just the full number not listed correctly in the catalog. The earlier “gray” version might have been the plain, old BS1400. In any case, the one being reviewed here is the orange version seen easily at any Home Depot store, usually selling for about $350. OK, this is a pretty basic band saw in the old style. It c...

Ridgid TS3650 Table Saw

Ridgid TS3650 Table Saw

I’ve had this saw for about a year and love it. It was pretty square out of the box and the fence is really steady in contrast with earlier reviews on older models. The ability to move it on wheels is great, it comes with the wheels attached a bonus. There is a 2 1/2” dust collector hook up up under the saw which is so so, it’s hard to control the saw dust on any contractor’s saw. I have had no troubles with it and would highly recommend it.
