First impressions: Ridgid Compact Table Saw

First impressions: Ridgid Compact Table Saw

12-18-2014 11:50 PM by ajw1978 | 18 comments »

I’ve been wanting—note I didn’t say “need” or any derivative thereof—a table saw for quite some time and when I saw this one, originally a Black Friday special, still available a few weeks after the Thanksgiving holiday and with an assortment of store credits and a Harbor Freight coupon in my pocket, I decided the $50 out-of-pocket outlay was worth it, especially with the lifetime warranty. Finally found one in stock, ran out to get it and after a good week...

Ridgid Mobile Miter Saw Stand AC9945, Up For Review

Ridgid Mobile Miter Saw Stand AC9945, Up For Review

This stand is really great. It’s easy to use, easy to move, and doesn’t rock or move while using the saw. Check out the video of loading and unloading the saw and stand from a pickup. No, it’s not light and if you’re slap outta shape you won’t be able to do this, but for me it sure beats heaving a full size chop saw in and out of a truck bed. The video pretty much hits the big stuff about the stand, but if you wanna read a bit more check out my blog post ...

First Impressions, Second Thoughts & the Third Degree: Ridgid Compact Router

First Impressions, Second Thoughts & the Third Degree: Ridgid Compact Router

Today, I picked up this very popular—judging from the reviews on this site and others across the web—little offering from Ridgid. It’s was the fourth compact/palm/trim router I’ve tried in the last few weeks, but I think I’ve got a keeper. Earlier this summer, I purchased my first router; a Craftsman combination fixed/plunge base kit with a router table. And so far, so good. They’ve been very adequate for my incredibly-basic skill level, though I found m...

Ridgid 4512 and a 10mm handgun

Ridgid 4512 and a 10mm handgun

I bought a Brand new RIDGID R4512 this spring and this is my story. Got it at HOME CHEAPO 15 miles away. Mother weighed in at 250 plus pounds. Took me and 2 employees to lift it into my truck Took most of the afternoon to assemble, partially because of my 8 pound water head didn’t do it right a couple of times. The MOTOR and table assembly COMES up side down in the box and that is how I cut the box off off it, and it was a real piece of work to get it flipped over with only my se...

Ridgid R2601 5" Sander Poor Quality

Ridgid R2601 5" Sander Poor Quality

09-18-2014 05:59 PM by txsawyer | 16 comments »

I bought the R2601 about 18 months ago. This sander has been in the repair shop more than it has been in my shop. I signed up for the Ridgid Lifetime Service Agreement (LSA) which is a joke. When sander started running erratically about a year ago, Ridgid told me to bring it to their repair facility which just happens to be a 5 hour drive for me. Told them I didn’t want to spend 20 hours or 2 days on the road. So the said said bring it to Home Depot which was much closer. Dropped it off...

Better drill than I expected, serviceable impact driver, so-so radio

Better drill than I expected, serviceable impact driver, so-so radio

This is not a brand I would have ever expected to have in my shop, but… From my Twitter stream, on April 30th 2014 I got a follow from @RIDGIDPower, and said I’d be an unlikely customer. Surprising me, they engaged! We sent email back and forth, their rep offered to send me a battery powered tool combo kit with a drill, impact driver, and radio. I actually declined, on the basis that I didn’t need another set of chargers and batteries in my shop, but by that point the box wa...

UPDATED: Returning the saw.

UPDATED: Returning the saw.

I have no complaints with this saw. It’s a great buy for the money. I’ve only used it for one project so far so if things change I’ll update this. I doubt they will though. Pros:-Enough power for what what just about anyone will do.-Fence alignment is easy.-Blade alignment is easy, I think they worked out all the problems there. blade to miter slot is easy…still has other problems noted below-Mobile base is smooth.-4” dust collection port. Cons:-none so far...

Powerful Tool In a Small Package

Powerful Tool In a Small Package

For Christmas I received this little router and finally got a chance to put it to use today. I’ve always had a lot of respect for the big routers and their potential for beautiful work, and great damage. I’ve always felt like I was wrestling a runaway chainsaw. This compact bodied router still has power to do most of the work I need, yet doesn’t feel like it’s going to get away from me like my full body router. I also noticed that the smaller body made it much easier t...

Well, Ms. Santa has been nice to me once again. I casually mentioned this once upon a time to the wife while at Home Depot and lo and behold I find it under the tree. I love this thing! Works great, no complaints. Yes I have used the snot out of it already. I really like the edge sander the best.

R4512 Table Saw Assembly tip - Lubrication / Table Cleaning

R4512 Table Saw Assembly tip - Lubrication / Table Cleaning

12-11-2013 05:48 PM by basset7 | 16 comments »

I recently purchased and assembled a Home Depot Ridgid R4512 table saw. I took my time assembling the saw and enlisted help (it’s heavy). I have two suggestions during assembly. One – while the saw is upside down and before you attached the dust chute and base legs, lubricate the gear shafts of both the bevel and up/down adjustments. My saw had minimal grease. Easy to do at this stage – not so sure later. Two – to get rid of the nasty oil film from factory on...
