First off, I’d like to say a few things to give you a bit of context around my review. This is the first drill press I have ever owned. I have used some before in the past, being from a farm my dad always had all kinds of tools in the shop, and a Drill Press was definitely one of those tools. As a child all the tools intimidated me, seeing all of the belts hanging on the walls, the torch scraps on the floor, etc. Now that I am all grown up and have kids of my own, its very interes...

Bought this a couple of months ago, and I’m not sorry I did. For most of my projects, the capacity of this jointer is perfect. Plus I doesn’t take up to much space with the 4 foot bed( Important for a small shop). First let me tell you this thing was set to the tee right from the factory. The bed and fence are dead flat with out the slightest hint of twist. The angles on the fence postive stops are dead to rights. I checked to make sure the knives were set right, and they were pe...

Clean your House with a Ridgid Vac

Clean your House with a Ridgid Vac

Yeah that’s right, I clean my house with a shop vac. I recently learned that normal vacuum cleaners are a joke compared to shop vacs. Earlier this summer when my lame hoover choked on penny, I decided it was time to purchase a worthwhile vacuum cleaner. After doing some vacuum research, it appeared the best thing on the market was a Dyson. However, I was in no mood to spend $50,000 on a vacuum cleaner that has a one wheel/ball thingy (maybe in better economic times). Then it hit me, ...

PLEASE NOTE I have edited this review after a few weeks with the saw. Here is the original review and my update follows: I accidentally spent the whole day in the garage assembling my new Ridgid saw. So here are my impressions: The saw is very sturdy, and assembly was very easy despite a few typos and some items that were not clearly identified. All the parts are well machined, and everything has a good but not excessive coat of cosmoline. I will not that there are several review...

Deal on the Ridgid 15" Drill Press

Deal on the Ridgid 15" Drill Press

I just picked up the Ridgid 15” Drill press for $149, Home Depot has them on Sale in there lower volume stores. 20 minutes away another HD had the same drill press for $299 at a higher volume store so make sure you keep your eyes open for good deals at the HD. Don’t forget HD will take competitor coupons like Harbor Fright tools 20% off coupons too. Other than a little movement in the table that can be fixed with a little care this unit is great right out of the box and with the ...

Ridgid DP1550 Drill Press

Hi all, I just got back from Home Depot a few hours ago with my new drill press. Woo-Hoo! I chose this drill press based on the weight of the reviews that I’ve read on this website and elsewhere. I just brought it home a few hours ago and just completed setting it up and testing it. Out of the box, the reviews hold true about the accuracy of the parts fitting together, fit and finish, ease of assembly, and usability. After seating the chuck, I found the runout is about .003&#...

A Huge Help!

A Huge Help!

I picked up this Ridgid Oscillating Edge Belt/Spindle sander on 1/22/2011. I had done one band saw box and had four more in progress and wasn’t looking forward to all of the sanding they were going to require. Being the lazy guy I am, I wanted to find a tool to do some of the work for me. I read a number of reviews about sanders and this one seemed to get decent reviews and the oscillating belt sander feature appealed to me. The price wasn’t bad at $199 for what it offers. I also ...

13" bench top planer (Reconditioned)

13" bench top planer (Reconditioned)

10-31-2009 01:59 AM by Fireguy | 21 comments »

I purchased the rigid planer yesterday and got it home and unpacked it right away since it is reconditioned. Everything was with it and as far as I could tell never used or why it is reconditioned. Today I want thru the setup and tuned the in feed and out feed tables to level with the table. The thickness scale and repeat a cut where right on so I left them alone. Pro’s1: Great reviews2: Price $189.00, I also had a coupon for 10% off so ended up 169.00 + tax. Hard to beat that price.3:...

Good enough, but not perfect

Good enough, but not perfect

First, for what it’s worth, I have a Masters degree in functional design (woodworking) and studied under a master woodworker for 4 years. In our school shop we had large industrial 1960’s and 1970’s vintage Delta and Powermatic tools that had as much iron and steel in them as a Mack truck, so I know how a real saw is supposed to work, look and feel. Flash forward 15 years… For five years I have been using a crappy entry level ($100.00) table saw and it is simply god...
