NEW POWERMATIC PJ882

NEW POWERMATIC PJ882

12-10-2013 09:45 PM by jeffk726 | 22 comments »

After finally giving up on Delta to turn things around, I decided to purchase the PJ882 model during the Thanksgiving sale promotion. After scouring the internet for recent reviews, I decided to move forward with this purchase as there really were no new positive or negative reviews. I deemed the lack of negative reviews as a good thing. After receiving my jointer 1 week after purchase, I was excited to get it up and running. First came the uncrating. The packaging was adequate as th...

Powermatic PM2000 - Assembly and setup review

Powermatic PM2000 - Assembly and setup review

03-23-2013 02:18 AM by darthford | 16 comments »

I finished the assembly and setup on this tablesaw last night and wanted to share my observations good and not so good. Shipping: Arrived in good shape overall, one minor shipping rub on the cabinet base through the yellow paint to the black base paint and one minor rub on the black extension table. My two bothers lifted the saw as I yanked the pallet out from underneath, no hoist required. The good 1. Mobile base is great, all four wheels rotate so its easy to maneuver the saw in an...

POWERMATIC PM 54HH ONYX JOINTER - POOR QUALITY, VERY DISAPPOINTED

POWERMATIC PM 54HH ONYX JOINTER - POOR QUALITY, VERY DISAPPOINTED

12-11-2012 05:01 PM by Rockne | 57 comments »

There’s a poor quality video (shot with my iPad in low-light) of the jointer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cxtcw_xX874&feature=youtube_gdata_player This is my first powermatic tool, and I’m very, very disappointed. For frame of reference, the other main woodworking tools I have in my shop are (1) Sawstop Professional TS, (2) An American-made Delta bandsaw (probably early-mid eighties), and Rockler wall-mount dust collector. I also have the Incra TS-LS Supersystem ...

Great saw, but I would expect more from the price

Great saw, but I would expect more from the price

12-08-2012 09:36 PM by Cole Tallerman | 13 comments »

Alright so let me start off by saying that I got this saw for free hardly used so for me I couldn’t be happier. If I were to pay the $1200 price tag, I might think twice. I have had this saw for about 2 years and have thrown everything at it including re-sawing 12” ash logs. The saw handled it fine. The bearing guides are nice along with the extended table and carter quick release. There are also multiple features that I do not like about this saw. One is the fence. The fence is ...

701 PM Benchtop Deluxe Mortiser

701 PM Benchtop Deluxe Mortiser

05-28-2012 03:34 PM by plantek | 4 comments »

The 5 star rating is a bit biased since I have never owned or used a mortiser before. However I can say this machine is fantastic.I have been wanting to start building projects with through mortises for a while now. But when I decided to build a pair of arts and crafts style ottomans (Still in progress) I made the decision to buy this. I’m glad I did.So far I’ve used it to mortise (16) 1/2” x 2” and (8) 1/2” x3 1/2” mortises through 2” thick oak (legs ...

Powermatics PM 2800 the ultimate Drill Press for the modern WoodWork Shop.

Powermatics PM 2800 the ultimate Drill Press for the modern WoodWork Shop.

The beautiful, big black Powermatic 2800 Onyx variable speed 18” Drill press arrived well crated with sturdy wooden skids, a wood frame and heavy corrugated cardboard protecting all sides The crate was quite heavy, about 302 Lbs. so I recruited a helper to assist with the unpacking and assembly. We carefully unpackaged and inventoried all the component parts and hardware before proceeding with the assembly. The entire process took about 45 minutes including taking photographs while following ...

Onyx 2000

Onyx 2000

04-19-2012 11:20 PM by onninn2 | 7 comments »

After looking around for the last year at all the major brands all I kept hearing from the salesmen was it’s almost as a good as a powermatic and you can save a few bucks. The sawstop is a great safty feature but the saw itself in my opinionj is only fair. So I splurged and got the black onyx single phase 3 hp. I do have one complaint and that is the wood extension table. I understand the need for a lite table as when you lift the saw thye extension table cantilivers out there. They cou...

Powermatic PM2000 5hp tablesaw

Powermatic PM2000 5hp tablesaw

Splurged on the new table saw a few months ago and wanted to post a quick review to help others out there make a wise decision if they are in the market as well. I have no photo so instead you all get to admire my beautiful 2-year old daughter Caitlin. She is happier than am I about the machine by the looks of her. Saw arrived in two packages. The heaviest of which was REALLY heavy. It took 5 guys to muscle this thing into my basement and I’m pretty sure it is never going to leave th...

My Experience (so far) with the Powermatic PM1800

My Experience (so far) with the Powermatic PM1800

Hello! I am not new to forums or new to woodworking, but I am new to THIS forum. I joined mainly to post my review of this saw but looks like a good forum with a lot of information and good people. So hello from Texas! RobWoodWorker’s post was one of a few reviews that I read (there are only a few out there) before pulling the trigger on this PM 1800 mega bandsaw. Rather than rehashing a lot of the same data, I thought I would just piggy back onto Rob’s post and compare my find...

Powermatic 4224 24" Lathe

Powermatic 4224 24" Lathe

04-04-2012 02:12 PM by Jon Spelbring | 12 comments »

I bought this used, and having used it for the past couple of months, I thought I’d post a review. For background, my first lathe was a Jet Mini. I turned on that for about a year, then wanted to do larger work, so I upgraded to a Nova DVR. Both of these are excellent lathes. I have become much more serious about turning, and I’m moving toward larger hollow forms, and large platters/bowls. When I decided to upgrade (again), I researched quite a few large lathes – Robust...
