Powermatic 3520b, superstar

I’ve had my Powermatic for almost a year now, and I have used it a LOT. It runs true and smooth. The lathe was perfectly level/square right out of the box. I have had NO problems with this lathe. It is quiet, powerful and it feels good to be at. It makes you comfortable knowing that you will be able to do what you want to do. At first, being a new turner, it intimidated me a little, but now, we are best friends. I would not hesitate to recommend this lathe to anyone.

I bought this planer about a year and a half ago. I wanted to upgrade my 13” lunchbox planer and figured that there was no sense just upgrading to 15”. I can’t remember what lead to my decision to go with the Powermatic over other brands. The planer is heavily built and came with large, cast iron extension tables. Built in wheels made it easy to move around, thankfully because it is almost 800lbs! It also comes with an extra gear sprocket and gear chain to change the feedi...

Powermatic PJ-882HH 8-Inch Parallelogram Jointer & Mobile Base Review

Powermatic PJ-882HH 8-Inch Parallelogram Jointer & Mobile Base Review

Purchase Decision. Woodworking is a hobby in my 2 car commandeered garage. I thought it time to upgrade from my 6” Craftsman jointer with its 36” long bed. The Craftsman never let me down since the late 1980’s, continued to work well, and was a great entry level jointer. However, it lacked the convenience of a long and wide bed. Replacing straight knives was always a challenge. In addition to an 8” wide X long bed, I wanted a helical cutter head and tables mounted with a parallelogram...

Onyx 2000

Onyx 2000

After looking around for the last year at all the major brands all I kept hearing from the salesmen was it’s almost as a good as a powermatic and you can save a few bucks. The sawstop is a great safty feature but the saw itself in my opinionj is only fair. So I splurged and got the black onyx single phase 3 hp. I do have one complaint and that is the wood extension table. I understand the need for a lite table as when you lift the saw thye extension table cantilivers out there. They cou...

Powermatic PM1300

Powermatic PM1300

I’m starting to take over the basement now that the garage is full. I promised to keep it clean, and this is a big part of that. All I have connected at this time is a lathe, but that will change. I looked at just about everything that I could go and look at.To me, this was the ideal machine. Good specs, small size, not real loud. Speaking of specs: Impeller diameter = 12” Sound rating at 3 ft (db) = 75 – 90 Air flow at 6” (CFM) = 1,064Velocity at 6” (F...

First Impressions - PM1000 (further review to follow)

This is my first review (as I am a new member of lumberJocks). This is also just a initial impressions review, as I just took delivery and set up the saw today. I just recently started building a shop in the basement of my home. Moving out of the attached garage and into a climate controlled area has been wonderful. The only real tools (not that there really is an end to the number of tools a guy needs..) i was still in need of, were a ventilation system, a dust collector and a table saw. ...

Powermatic Bandsaw 6 inch riser block

Powermatic Bandsaw 6 inch riser block

09-13-2011 04:09 PM by 489tad | 7 comments »

I have a project that will require 8” resawing. I purchased from Woodcraft the Powermatic 6” riser block for my PM 14” bandsaw. The kit includes the riser block, blade guard, bolt washer nut, guide post, upper wheel blade guard, 105” saw blade and instructions. All the parts were well packed. The riser block had one paint bubble on the mating surface that I remove with a file. The directions are clear and installation was easy. I did need the help of my son to ...

PM 719T Hollow Chisel Mortiser Review

PM 719T Hollow Chisel Mortiser Review

01-21-2016 02:18 AM by JBrow | 6 comments »

Problem. I prefer the mortise and tenon joint. Most of my projects join ¾” thick stock. I am not one to create a mortise by chopping with a chisel, drilling a series of holes that are then squared up, or setting up the router – I am just not patient enough. For years, I used a mortise attachment on my Craftsman floor model drill press. It was a constant struggle to use the attachment and get centered mortises plus cutting mortises took the drill press out of commission until they were ...

Great Saw!

Great Saw!

04-24-2015 01:11 PM by hybridn00b | 6 comments »

This is only my second saw, so that may limit the impact of my review, but it just might be my last! This beauty is built to last! I upgraded from a craftsman contractor saw, which was wildly inaccurate, but allowed me to realize that woodworking is going to be a lifetime passion of mine. A big factor in choosing this saw for me was the 115V option. Plus, the Powermatic logo screams quality to me. Obviously the saw is amazing, especially compared to the contractor saw i had previously. ...

This base should not have passed final QC

This base should not have passed final QC

03-04-2015 04:24 PM by Dedvw | 6 comments »

Unit arrived in a box way larger than the base allowing it to slide around. No shipping foam or cardboard whatsoever allowed the wheels and hardware to break through the box. Upon opening the box, my unit had a lot of paint runs and dust embedded in the spray paint. I call it spray paint because mine was not powder coated and painted with what appears to be a spray paint can. There were numerous scratches everywhere on the frame as well as a bunch of exposed bare metal that missed painting al...
