My "Almost" Dream Table Saw

My "Almost" Dream Table Saw

280 days ago by Lenny | 37 comments »

I have been woodworking without a table saw (TS) for nearly 30 years; using a radial arm saw as the workhorse of my tools. I never had the room for a table saw when I worked out of my 8’X11’ basement shop. In 2007 I became the happy owner of a dedicated shop, attached to my garage. It is only 8’x18’ but it has an 8’ ceiling and is almost double the space I had. I plan to retire from my job of 32+ years next July and planned to use the money I will receive for my unused v...

McBridge Cabinets, New Table Saw

McBridge Cabinets, New Table Saw

I got my Powermatic 2000 table saw the other day. It is a 10” 3HP saw with a 50” Accufence and extention table. I also got a free Powermatic metal sign, zero clearance insert and zero clearance dado insert. I bought the saw from Tool-Plus for $2,669 which included the saw, freight and tail gate service http://www.tools-plus.com/powermatic-1792000k.html. The saw was very well packaged and came thru with no damage. Everything was there except for the hardware package for the Accu...

Impressions of the Powermatic 3520b after 4 months of ownership

Impressions of the Powermatic 3520b after 4 months of ownership

Some of you may remember my blog post regarding this Christmas Gift . I just wanted to post a review now that I have used it for a while…. Assembly: Ouch! Get help, Get a Friend but whatever you do don’t do it by yourself! It’s heavy and unwieldy; you could easily hurt yourself if you are not careful. Make sure you assemble it where you plan to leave it, moving it is no simple chore. Make sure there is enough room behind it for the cage to open fully and plenty of room on...

Powermatic 1300 Dust Collector

Powermatic 1300 Dust Collector

315 days ago by Scott Bryan | 20 comments »

Introduction For years I have use a Delta AP300 3/4 HP dust collector as my tool of choice for collecting dust. I largely bought this collector based solely on price. At times it has surprised me with its efficiency but it did little about controlling the fine dust created by the table saw and sanding operations. Plus it has a very limited capacity. With an idea towards controlling the fine dust I recently received a Powermatic 1300. The dust collector and air cleaner were receive...

Powermatic 1200 Air Cleaner

Powermatic 1200 Air Cleaner

Installation Assembly of a tool could not have been simpler. The only real assembly consisted of attaching 4 anchor eye bolts to the tool’s cabinet. I chose to mount it to the ceiling in order to control fine dust within the shop. This is definately a two person job since the assembled cabinet weighs about 70 pounds. The unit has three fan speeds and can be set for either continuous operation or set via a timer for 1 to 4 hours. Performance The cleaner will remove 99 percen...

Everything We hoped for and more

When we were looking at a jointer we wanted to get one that would be able to handle all of our woodworking aspirations for many years to come. We compared 4 different 8” Jointers side by side and decided that since we had the money we might as well get this one, since it ended up on top of our list when comparing the following things: Type & Number of KnivesCuts per MinuteMotorBeltsMagnetic Power SwitchPedestal Mounted SwitchTotal Bed LengthInfeed Table LengthTable AdjustmentFence S...

Powermatic Benchtop Mortiser, Model PM701

Powermatic Benchtop Mortiser, Model PM701

254 days ago by Don K. | 17 comments »

As many of you know, I have had a heck of a time getting a new benchtop mortiser lately. I had a Steel City Mortiser that I loved….and so did my dad. So I ordered him one from Woodcraft for fathers day, after several weeks of no mortiser, I finally got a e-mail from Woodcraft saying that Steel-city had missed three shipping dates and that the did not know when or even IF they would ever get them in. So they offered me a choice…get a full refund on what I paid ($269 on sale) or the...

I used this mortiser at my friends house today and it was sweet i am just used to putting a drill bit in the drill press and finishing it off with a rasp but this was awesome but its also a ton of money but its still really nice. Powermatic makes a floor standing model too but this is good enough to make good mortises.

Great Saw, but Limitations

Great Saw, but Limitations

287 days ago by John | 13 comments »

Since there is no Review posted on this site for this saw, I’ll be the first. The first thing someone should understand is, it’s NOT a Cabinet Saw. If you can live with the limitations of a Contractor Saw, it’s actually a great saw. My first Powermatic 64A held up great for about 10 years until I sold it. You can see it in my pictures of my old workshop. I only sold it cause I needed the money and employment was pretty scarce at the time. There are 6 main points that I will ...

PM2000: the best of times the worst of times

PM2000: the best of times the worst of times

334 days ago by Tablesawed | 13 comments »

A while ago I posted a very poor review of the Grizzly 1023slw. This saw was its replacement. I purchased the Powermatic with a 3hp single-phase motor. It is quite a saw. I bought it because I couldn’t find a SawStop anywhere locally, and I didn’t want to wait. I bought the new PM2000 off a showroom floor. It was delivered basically for free. It is (mostly:read on) a dream to operate. Very smooth operation, very precise cuts. very finely tuned. Now for the not-so-great part. I couldn’t mo...
