Porter-Cable PCB660DP 15"Floor Drill Press with Laser Guide and Light

I have had this drill press for a year now and have no complaints at all. I have drilled through everything from 1/8” steel plate to 3” hardwood, and used drum sander attachments. Putting this together was easy, even by myself. The fit and finish was perfect. The lasers were dead on. There was zero play in the quil from the top of the 4” stroke to the bottom. The depth stop was dead on and easy to set. Changing speeds is easy and diagramed for my needs. My only complaint (...

Porter Cable 4212 dovetail jig

Porter Cable 4212 dovetail jig

A few people asked me to do a review on my dovetail jig, so I thought I would do a review of my Porter Cable 4212 dovetail jig. It’s a amazing jig, I’ve used it a few times and it is very handy to have. Positives--Includes the 4210 half blind template, and the 4212 through dovetail template. Each template works just how it should and I’m very happy with the results. -The straight bit and dovetail bit (1/2’’ shank) are included with the jig and they are very ni...

Great saw for the money, even a better package

Great saw for the money, even a better package

I’ve been looking at cordless circular saws for some time now, because I want one to take with me to lumberyards to break down long boards so they fit into my small station wagon.Walking into Lowes three weeks ago looking for an unrelated item, I stumbled upon a Porter Cable combo-package of 4 tools, two Ni-cd batteries and a charger for a price I couldn’t afford to pass up – $129.00. After looking at it for about 10 seconds before I made up my mind to buy it, I was at the r...

WORKED GREAT IN JUNE

WORKED GREAT IN JUNE

I was using this tool and had great results. Then came the cold weather and the table warped. I use it for edge planing for glue ups. I first make sure I have a straight edge then plane it for smoothness. In the warm weather it was just fine. Plane the edges and lay the boards flat and if you line up the grains just right it could be almost impossible to tell where the glue line is. Now I get a bow. Ehe ends are fine but gradually bows toward the center of the board. After resawing the boards...

PC Mini Dovetail Template #4215 - Nice Idea, Poor Design, Not as Advertised

PC Mini Dovetail Template #4215 - Nice Idea, Poor Design, Not as Advertised

I needed to make some small half-blind dovetailed drawers with 1/2” fronts and 1/4” sides and my Leigh jig wasn’t up to the task so I looked around and ordered the Porter Cable 4216. Most of you are familiar with the 4200 series PC jigs so I won’t discuss the jig itself, just the miniature template (#4215) – I just ordered the 4216 kit because I had to have the jig itself before I could use the mini dovetail template. My first discovery upon opening the box a...

Review of my Porter Cable 15" Drill Press

Review of my Porter Cable 15" Drill Press

Last year I bough the Porter Cable Drill Press at Lowe’s. I searched around for other drill presses but this one surpassed them all. For the price you can’t beat it!!! A couple features that I really like about this drill press is the 1 HP motor, 12 different speeds ranging from 300 to 3100, floor type, a full 4 inches of spindle travel, and made out of metal. Most other drill presses are made out of cheap plastic, but this one has a metal pulley cover! Unpacking this beast wasn&#...

Review of the Porter Cable 8" Grinder

Review of the Porter Cable 8" Grinder

11-10-2012 07:16 PM by thewoodworker01 | 6 comments »

Recently I just bought a grinder for the workshop to sharpen my lathe tools. I looked at other grinders and I could really only find a couple grinders with variable speed. This one has variable speed from 2000-3400 rpms. It is a great grinder. I have heard a lot of other people say that this grinder is junk. It isn’t. I have heard people saying that the motor turned over two times and it died. This hasn’t happened to me; I asked the salesman at Lowe’s if I could test the gri...

Great Investment for a Small Shop

Great Investment for a Small Shop

This is my first table saw. I picked it up at my local Lowes a about 2 months ago now. My impressions after a few projects with it— Assembly & Set-UpPutting it together out of the box was a fairly straightforward affair. The saw came set square and true according to my checks. That being said, I’m not a micrometer-wielding woodworker. But it’s been fine for what I’ve done thus far. OperationIt cuts well. The supplied blade seems pretty decent. I have noticed ...

The off switch works

The off switch works

I sand a lot of wood…on average over 200 BF a month. I own a drum sander and use it a lot, but I find that for the final finish a ROS is the best tool. I have owned and used porter cable sanders for the past 5 years and I like them. The 390 low profile is a cut above the others. This tool has been reviewed on LJ’s twice before, but it has been awhile and this tool deserves another mention just to keep it on your radar. It is variable speed….I don’t use that op...
