Great Saw but Assembly was Quirky

Great Saw but Assembly was Quirky

42 days ago by mizzourob | 8 comments »

This is my first band saw so perhaps this may not be the best review, but with that in mind I will proceed anyway. I had been looking at bandsaws for a while, and was trying to find one that I thought would fit my needs now and into the future. I just could not justify a benchtop saw as those are not well suited for resawing, but I also wanted to stay in a reasonable budget. Ultimately it came down to this one and the Ridgid. I chose this saw over the orange one due to the closed base which h...

Porter Cable 390K 5" low profile Random Orbital Sander

Porter Cable 390K 5" low profile Random Orbital Sander

101 days ago by GeneR | 20 comments »

First off I have used many, many different sanders before this purchase. I bought this sander to replace a porter cable 1/4 sheet finishing sander that finally gave out after many years of reliable use. I looked at several random orbital sanders that were comparable including the Dewalt version which is more of a finishing sander where this is an all around work horse. The most notable difference between this and other ROS’s is the fact this is very quiet compared to Dewalt, Black...

Porter-Cable Disk/Belt Sander

Porter-Cable Disk/Belt Sander

144 days ago by Tony Strupulis | 6 comments »

I bought this sander because I needed something that would sand at a true right angle. I have a couple other sanding stations that give me all sorts of problems sanding a square edge. This sander has large work tables that can be adjusted to be square to the sanding surface, but not right out of the box. Every time I would tighten the table angle, it would pull itself out of adjustment. This was very frustrating as I was working on a deadline and didn’t have time to troubleshoot the...

Porter Cable should be ashamed to have their name on these

Porter Cable should be ashamed to have their name on these

299 days ago by A Slice of Wood Workshop | 20 comments »

I bought these bits a year and a half ago. They were a “name brand” and in a price range I could afford at the time. This was a major mistake on my part. I bought an expensive sticker with crappy bits in the box. These bits are very cheap and not worth your time or money. I’ve seen reviews on these bits before usually stating that the person just bought them and they work great. That’s the truth. They work great during the “30 day satisfaction” period. These...

table saw

table saw

450 days ago by BJF | 20 comments »

I have been a woodworker for about 3 years, but have only recently gotten serious. Last March I purchased the Porter Cable, from Lowes, $599. I agonized for year over what table saw to buy. Price wasn’t the biggest issue, it was mostly concern over spending a great deal of money and being disappointed in the result. However, from some classes I took and research I did, it became clear that the equipment doesn’t make the woodworker, so to speak. I also realized that size was a...

Porter-Cable PC218C-2 PORTER-CABLE 18-Volt Cordless Drill & Circular Saw Combo

Porter-Cable PC218C-2 PORTER-CABLE 18-Volt Cordless Drill & Circular Saw Combo

I’ve had this combo set for just over a year now. Overall they work good. The Nicad batteries aren’t as long lasting as I would have hoped. When I had the chance I upgraded to Lithuim batteries. That was an improvement. The drill has its quirks. The chuck isn’t the best. Once in a while the driver or a drill bit comes loose when using it. I have learned to tighten the chuck after a few uses. The cordless saw isn’t bad, but I upgraded to a better blade (the norm). ...

Porter-Cable PCB660DP 15"Floor Drill Press with Laser Guide and Light

Porter-Cable PCB660DP 15"Floor Drill Press with Laser Guide and Light

472 days ago by kdc68 | 15 comments »

I have had this drill press for a year now and have no complaints at all. I have drilled through everything from 1/8” steel plate to 3” hardwood, and used drum sander attachments. Putting this together was easy, even by myself. The fit and finish was perfect. The lasers were dead on. There was zero play in the quil from the top of the 4” stroke to the bottom. The depth stop was dead on and easy to set. Changing speeds is easy and diagramed for my needs. My only complaint (...

Porter Cable 4212 dovetail jig

Porter Cable 4212 dovetail jig

483 days ago by AJswoodshop | 6 comments »

A few people asked me to do a review on my dovetail jig, so I thought I would do a review of my Porter Cable 4212 dovetail jig. It’s a amazing jig, I’ve used it a few times and it is very handy to have. Positives--Includes the 4210 half blind template, and the 4212 through dovetail template. Each template works just how it should and I’m very happy with the results. -The straight bit and dovetail bit (1/2’’ shank) are included with the jig and they are very ni...

Great saw for the money, even a better package

Great saw for the money, even a better package

493 days ago by Oldtool | 11 comments »

I’ve been looking at cordless circular saws for some time now, because I want one to take with me to lumberyards to break down long boards so they fit into my small station wagon.Walking into Lowes three weeks ago looking for an unrelated item, I stumbled upon a Porter Cable combo-package of 4 tools, two Ni-cd batteries and a charger for a price I couldn’t afford to pass up – $129.00. After looking at it for about 10 seconds before I made up my mind to buy it, I was at the r...
