Loving this sander

Loving this sander

629 days ago by sgtq | 8 comments »

I purchased this belt sander from a big box store the other day for 170.00 plus 10% off for my military discount. I am fairly new to woodworking (about 1 year) so I dont know alot of terms but I’ll try and get this review done in laymans terms.. To start I am loving this sander, Its my first one so I may be biased but it has really opened up what I can accomplish in my small shop. So heres my review based on things I thought were important Packing and Setup: Inside the box was the...

Great value for the money

Great value for the money

This drill press costs $299 at Lowes and that seems to be a stable price, as I got it this summer but it’s still listed at that price. However, Lowe’s recognizes the 20% off Harbor Freight coupon so I paid less than that. This drill press has served me very well so far. You’ll need two people to lift the very heavy headstock into place. I haven’t had any vibration issues. The table adjustments are easy though it does tend to slip a bit when you tighten down the ...

Solid router but obsolete design

Solid router but obsolete design

919 days ago by Chelios | 16 comments »

I got this router, guide and dovetail jig because I wanted to make a small chest of drawers and thought this would be the way to go. I have used the router several times after that but I wasn’t really liking the clean up after the job was done. Dust collection is not part of the design. PC relies on an obsolete design and this is the main reason for giving it 2 stars. The positive- The tool looks like it is never going to brake and it certainly runs that way, the base has a nice...

Great Saw

Great Saw

393 days ago by cutit | 3 comments »

I have been using saws for almost 70 years. When I retired from contracting we sold our large home with my big shop and of course most of the large tools I owned. Table saws, radial arm saws etc. they all went. Our new home needed some repair but I was limited to tool space. I was into Lowe’s about three years ago and looked at the price and what I was getting, it went home with us. Is it perfect, no but you can not beat it for the price. Went together easy and is very sturdy whe...

Porter Cable Table Saw Model PCB270TS

Porter Cable Table Saw Model PCB270TS

283 days ago by SirFatty | 17 comments »

Recently, I had ran into a problem with my old Craftsman table saw. I decided to replace it instead of repairing it. Having used it for a couple weekends and making quite a few cuts, I’ve come to really appreciate this machine. My views might not be fully objective having come from a twenty year old Craftsman, but this new saw is just fantastic. Yes, there are a few shortcomings (which I will detail), but the pros far outweigh the cons. To begin with, the PCB270TS quick and easy...

PC Mini Dovetail Template #4215 - Nice Idea, Poor Design, Not as Advertised

PC Mini Dovetail Template #4215 - Nice Idea, Poor Design, Not as Advertised

210 days ago by JustJoe | 4 comments »

I needed to make some small half-blind dovetailed drawers with 1/2” fronts and 1/4” sides and my Leigh jig wasn’t up to the task so I looked around and ordered the Porter Cable 4216. Most of you are familiar with the 4200 series PC jigs so I won’t discuss the jig itself, just the miniature template (#4215) – I just ordered the 4216 kit because I had to have the jig itself before I could use the mini dovetail template. My first discovery upon opening the box a...

Porter Cable 4212 dovetail jig

Porter Cable 4212 dovetail jig

A few people asked me to do a review on my dovetail jig, so I thought I would do a review of my Porter Cable 4212 dovetail jig. It’s a amazing jig, I’ve used it a few times and it is very handy to have. Positives--Includes the 4210 half blind template, and the 4212 through dovetail template. Each template works just how it should and I’m very happy with the results. -The straight bit and dovetail bit (1/2’’ shank) are included with the jig and they are very ni...

Monster power!

Monster power!

1976 days ago by Rob McCune | 11 comments »

I was trying to decide between a shaper and a high end router table when I came across some info on the Porter-Cable #7518 router. I decided to take a chance on it and I have not been dissappointed. There is a reason this has become the industry standard. While it may lack some of the features of some of the newer routers, the raw power and dead certain reliability of the 7518 more than overcome any shortcoming it might have. It has a 5 position variable speed selector switch that allows ...

Maybe I got a bad one, but I'm getting a Grex. This P-C is a loser

Maybe I got a bad one, but I'm getting a Grex. This P-C is a loser

I bought one of these and have been thoroughly disappointed with it. No matter what the air pressure or length of the pin it only sinks them to flush at best. And of course you can’t adjust the depth. If I sand one bit you get a nice shiny (until it rusts later) little 23 gauge nailhead looking at you. I also do not like the fact that it lacks a soft nose. So if you try and hold it a little tight to get the pin sunk as far as possible you get a dent in the wood that is a lot worse ...
