Great Oscillating Spindle Sander option

Great Oscillating Spindle Sander option

1666 days ago by richgreer | 14 comments »

I wanted an oscillating spindle sander but I was not willing to give up any floor space to accommodate one. I considered some bench top options but I felt the work surface on most of them was too small. I found the ideal answer with the Porter-Cable PC121 sander and a special insert plate for my router table from Woodpecker. Now I can lift my router out of the router table and set the sander in. I then have the entire router table as a work surface for my sander and I am not taking ...

Porter-Cable PCB660DP 15"Floor Drill Press with Laser Guide and Light

Porter-Cable PCB660DP 15"Floor Drill Press with Laser Guide and Light

567 days ago by kdc68 | 15 comments »

I have had this drill press for a year now and have no complaints at all. I have drilled through everything from 1/8” steel plate to 3” hardwood, and used drum sander attachments. Putting this together was easy, even by myself. The fit and finish was perfect. The lasers were dead on. There was zero play in the quil from the top of the 4” stroke to the bottom. The depth stop was dead on and easy to set. Changing speeds is easy and diagramed for my needs. My only complaint (...

My new saw

My new saw

1592 days ago by Tony | 40 comments »

Although I used industrial grade bandsaws in Jr and Sr High Shop Class, the only bandsaw I’ve owned is a Craftsman 10” bench top model. I’ve had it about 20 years, and it has been used for many model airplane and craft projects, but I’ve never been able to get it to cut anything over 1/4” reliably. I’ve been hoping to find a used 14” bandsaw around here, but they are scarce, or I’ve just been looking in the wrong place. I’ve done a lot of ...

Happy with it for the money

Happy with it for the money

1374 days ago by Kenshu | 15 comments »

About a year ago I picked up my first table saw, an older craftsman contractor saw, for about a hundred dollars. I took it home, cleaned it up, replaced the blade with a freud diablo combination blade, and spent a lot of time tuning it. It didnt take me long to figure out that it was underpowered, the fence was terrible and would not stay aligned and the belt pully had a habit of flying off mid cut (even after being replaced). I spent several months dealing with it and finally decided I ...

Porter Cable Dovetail Jig is Sturdy and Easy to Adjust.

Porter Cable Dovetail Jig is Sturdy and Easy to Adjust.

The 4210 dovetail jig is easy to use, and the template is thick aluminum. Most other jigs in the $100 price range seem flimsy or use plastic templates. I was impressed how large and heavy this jig is. The included dovetail jig and bushing let you get right to work – no more trips to the specialty woodworking stores. The bit is carbide tipped, and very sharp. It is 1/2” shank and cuts effortlessly. I found the jig in stock at Lowes. By by 4th try I was cutting perfect doveta...

Porter-Cable Razor - 10" TS Blade

Porter-Cable Razor - 10" TS Blade

2364 days ago by Jeff | 13 comments »

NOTE: the model number for the TS blade is 100VT50 Just as stated in the review for the circular saw blade, this is a great blade. I went to my local supplier for a thin-kerf Woodworker II but they were out. The guy I usually talk to told me I should give it a try. He makes picture frames for his father (an artist) on the side and swears by the miters you can get with it. He gave me a personal guarantee that if I didn’t like it after 30 days. He would take it back. No questions asked...

Porter Cable 895PK - First Impressions

Porter Cable 895PK - First Impressions

1475 days ago by Hillsboro | 9 comments »

It was almost like Christmas day this afternoon: my new PC 895PK arrived care of our friends at UPS. I immediately opened the box, then the case, and then the router and plunge base from the plastic bags. Oh my! The router is a delight to look at, almost to the point where you might not want to get it dirty. Notice I said “almost.” The motor housing is very well machined and moves through the fixed base like butter. The base castings are flawless (something missing from t...

Porter Cable Air Compressor

Porter Cable Air Compressor

1971 days ago by JayDee | 10 comments »

I replaced my old Husky air compressor with the one shown. This model is much quieter with twice the horse power. It is a two stage, oil free compressor with a 25 gal. tank. I find the whole unit is built much better than the Husky I had. I brlieve it was worth the extra money. I also ran about 60 lin. ft. of hard air lines with three drops. Each drop has a petcock to release condensation build-up and a quick disconnect. The air lines cost me about $200.00 in materials and about 7 hours labor...

The off switch works

The off switch works

I sand a lot of wood…on average over 200 BF a month. I own a drum sander and use it a lot, but I find that for the final finish a ROS is the best tool. I have owned and used porter cable sanders for the past 5 years and I like them. The 390 low profile is a cut above the others. This tool has been reviewed on LJ’s twice before, but it has been awhile and this tool deserves another mention just to keep it on your radar. It is variable speed….I don’t use that op...

Porter Cable 390K 5" low profile Random Orbital Sander

Porter Cable 390K 5" low profile Random Orbital Sander

196 days ago by GeneR | 21 comments »

First off I have used many, many different sanders before this purchase. I bought this sander to replace a porter cable 1/4 sheet finishing sander that finally gave out after many years of reliable use. I looked at several random orbital sanders that were comparable including the Dewalt version which is more of a finishing sander where this is an all around work horse. The most notable difference between this and other ROS’s is the fact this is very quiet compared to Dewalt, Black...
