We have always liked the Porter Cable Routers, but they still need to go through our power tool review steps. The first thing we noticed was the case. When we opened the case, the router was a tight fit. We usually like a little room for bits or other items that belong with the tool. We took the router out, unpacked everything, and tried to put it back. Obviously it fits back into the case, but there is no room for any other related items.
At first we though it might be heavier than ...

I purchased this after seeing it at a woodworking show. Man did it look good. The guy was doing all kinds of stuff with it (including sucking the money out of my wallet). He cut half blinds, through, sliding dovetails, variable spaced, fixed space, etc. I then proceeded to watch Norm do the same thing on the video that was running next to the demo. It was about 1/2hr long and I think I watched it 3-times throughout the day (before I bought it). The great part is that is a $599 retail ma...

After being overly frustrated with the Craftsman router that I started out with (which still makes a good router for my router table), I finally broke down and bought this one this last weekend. I intended on picking up the Bosch combo at Lowes, but this one was on sale and I’m price minded to a fault. However, I can’t see how I could have made a better decision.
The router is solid. 100%. I’ve not had the luxury of working with a mid-grade router like this before, bu...

I have been using the porter cable 690 for over 20 yrs. About 4 yrs ago I was at a Home depot, and they had them for $99.00. I thought, what a deal, so I bought two. “Well”, I got them home and packed them away to use as backups because my old ones still ran great, but eventually I did need them, and the first thing I noticed was the poor fit and finish. The threads on the collar were rough and did not feel the way they used to, and after about six or seven months of normal use, t...

Got this twelve piece set about a year ago and they are great bits. To be fair I have never used other forstner bits but I have not complaints about these.
The hex-shaped shank is very nice for a no-slip fit in the chuck. I can imagine there is a lot of torque on a 2” forstner bit so that hex-shape will help tremendously.
They cut a very clean hole with a flat bottom except for the small point in the center. I would estimate is about a 1/16” of an inch.
I have even used t...

I purchased this sander after reading numerous other post and reviews. Several post I’ve seen talked about the tracking adjustment screw and the spring being weak with the need for constant readjustment. I have not found that to be true with mine at all. The unit is kind of wide for my hand but I’ve found like others that the place where the cord enters the unit is a good location for holding it and works fine for controlling the unit. I don’t have a large shop but I’v...

My old saw went to the I bind all the time not cutting well file so I went looking for a new one. I read good reviews on the saw and I was looking for light weight saw with a right hand blade drive this one fit the bill so I purchased one from Lowe’s on their handy credit card. I do not use the saw every day but have used it to cut 3/4” plywood, 1” knotty cedar, and rough sawn 1” red oak and it cuts like a dream. I would recommend it to anyone. I’ve listed th...

NOTE: the model number for the TS blade is 100VT50
Just as stated in the review for the circular saw blade, this is a great blade. I went to my local supplier for a thin-kerf Woodworker II but they were out. The guy I usually talk to told me I should give it a try. He makes picture frames for his father (an artist) on the side and swears by the miters you can get with it. He gave me a personal guarantee that if I didn’t like it after 30 days. He would take it back. No questions asked...

I bought this joiner two years ago after talking to a few woodworkers/salesmen I trust. I have used it on two large cabinets, a small table, and a small sideboard. On the whole, I think it’s a good machine for a very fair price. There are higher-end joiners that are, I’m sure, really slick. But for the money, this is a good tool, and when I bought it, it was definitely the best in its class.
It comes with: The joiner, dust bag, wrenches, regular and face-frame blades, manua...

these blades are great and at a low price to. i payed 6$ for it at home depot and i have been very satisfied with it so far. origionally my dad didn;t want me to buy it because of the looks. he thought that it looked weird and he didn’t want to stray from the regular blades that he usually uses that cost around 20$. but i persuaded him and now we love this blade. i bought the 71/4” version for my dad’s circular saw but i’m sure that the 10” versions probably work...
