Drum Sanders are magic...

Drum Sanders are magic...

This has been my dream tool since about two weeks after I started woodworking. I had a 9” tabletop bandsaw, a $25 Craigslist router, and a bunch of oak flooring that was in the garage when we bought the house. I managed to resaw that wood flooring into closish-to1/4” stock, and then I sat there with a Black & Decker Mouse trying to get rid of the saw marks. It generally took about an hour per 2”x12” piece of wood. Then I was at Rockler one day for my weekly clas...

Performax Sliding Miter Saw

Performax Sliding Miter Saw

1300 days ago by Raymond | 26 comments »

This Christmas, my wife bought me a PreformaX 10” sliding miter saw from Menards 164.99$. I was surprised to find out that they are part of the same company that makes Jet and Wilton tools. The box was huge, and everything was well packed. Set-up and adjustments were very easy. The manual was not the greatest though. The laser was “factory set” not sure in what factory that was perhaps by Mister Magoo without his glasses on. It was off by at least a 3/8 of an inch. Adjusting was simple and th...

Performax 22-44 Plus Drum Sander (Part Two Nitty gritty)

Performax 22-44 Plus Drum Sander (Part Two Nitty gritty)

I will wrap this review up by saying I am 99.9% happy with this machine I will say the belts are a little hard to change until you get the hang of it. The machine came with 80 grit paper but I already have a planer so after testing it I took it off. I replaced it with 100 grit and that was OK for removing planer marks so I left my dimensions around 3/32+ over size. My first attempt at changing the paper was what I expected, I did not get it tight enough at the right angle or it was skewed in ...

A big box was delivered today I don’t remember the last time I was this excited; it was a very big box at that.I have to say it was packed very well so I started by doing an inventory of all the parts and to my surprise everything was there, in tact, and well documented. Did I say it was packed very well? Here are the assembly steps right out of the manual with out all the stuff that you say “what the heck are they trying to say” ??? and a few things that I found that could cause a...

Really Good and Inexpensive Sander

Really Good and Inexpensive Sander

2381 days ago by Huckleberry | 7 comments »

To me having an oscillating spindle sander is kind of a luxury. So when Menard’s had this puppy on sale I decided to buy one and check it out. The ones that I use at school are nice but lack some of the features that this one has. First off cast iron top. Really nice and really heavy. The Wilton’s at school have a laminate top I think that is a pretty big difference. This one weighs in @ 34.5 pounds. Nice storage on board and when I hooked up my shop vac to the 3” por...

Performax Air Filtration System 240-3783

Performax Air Filtration System 240-3783

Bought this filter unit at a garage sale, brand new in box for $40. I don’t haveanything to compare it with but I’m amazedat how much dust accumulates on the outerfilter. I’m also running a HF dust collector. The unit has a 5 mic. outer and 1 mic. innerfilters,3 speeds, & remote control. For $40 anythingthat keeps dust out of my lungs is worthbuying. It’s a perfect size for my smallbasement shop with low ceilings. Menards is selling them for $160& I believ...
