Preliminary Review Of The Woodpeckers WDPPACK1 Drill Press Table

Preliminary Review Of The Woodpeckers WDPPACK1 Drill Press Table

294 days ago by Brad_Nailor | 25 comments »

I have been debating for a year or so about building/buying a good drill press table for my DP. I have seen a lot of really well done ones on this website, and till a few weeks ago hadn’t really seen anything commercially made that really impressed me. I have worked a couple projects lately that I needed the DP for and just a piece of melamine poorly clamped to the metal table wasn’t cutting it.I went online for design inspiration and was looking for ideas on LJ and at commerciall...

The Untimate router lift! - Woodpeckers PRL V2

Does your arm get tired cranking your router up and down in your router lift? Especially when you hve to crank it all the way up to change a bit? Well, how about no cranking at all and go from all the way down to all the way up in ONE SECOND! Well the new PRL V2 from Woodpeckers does just that. Install the spring loaded handle, give it quarter turn and you can pull or push the router to where ever you want it. Just stop it when you are close and use the micro adjustment wheel to reac...

Woodpeckers multi knobs- fantastic!

Woodpeckers multi knobs- fantastic!

I’ve used both these styles in various jigs, both the mini and regular multi knobs and cannot say enough good about them. I used to spend hours shopping around to find the right diameter knob with the right size thread and right length and the right type. These are very flexible in that you can use them as a through or studded knob. The minis come only in 1/4”, but the larger knobs come in 1/4”, 3/8” or 5/16” standard hex head bolts or nuts. The minis especially hav...

No more un-square squares. This one is made from solid phenolic

No more un-square squares. This one is made from solid phenolic

I was notified via e-mail about this square and ordered one right away. It’s a bit pricey at $70, but I will only ever need one. The first thing I did when I got it was to check it for square. It was perfect. Not much more to say in that regard. The only drawback I can see that the material isn’t steel which means that it can be damaged it you aren’t careful. The holes for your hands makes it real easy to move around and position. It’s also nice and thick so it̵...

GREAT router lift !

GREAT router lift !

This really IS a review, so … I’m pointing to it. After spending a fair bit of time, making setup blocks out of UHMW, FOR my Amana glue joint router bit, I can honestly say that I LOVE this lift. The thread pitch and machining make precise dialing in operations—at thousandths of an inch—incredibly easy. Coupled with a height gauge, gauge blocks, or a good rule (I have a Pinnacle 12” that does the job, rather nicely), getting exact bit height is—relat...

Woodpeckers Side Winder Router Lift SW350

Woodpeckers Side Winder Router Lift SW350

757 days ago by Chris Cook | 11 comments »

This all started with the idea of designing and building my own router lift. I researched what people were doing and found a ton of really cool ideas. I looked at quite a few of the commercial router lifts and just wasn’t ready to pony up $350-$500. During my research I came across the Woodpeckers SW350 router. As it was $239 on Amazon, it kept coming to mind as the solution. So, I figured that I would go ahead and get it. If it’s junk, it goes back to Amazon.Well, it certainly isn’t ...

Woodpeckers framing squares

Woodpeckers framing squares

575 days ago by mbs | 6 comments »

I needed to check both flatness and squareness across long surfaces and long miter fences. The most accurate tool I had was a Starrett 12” combination square. After a lot of time screwing around I came to the conclusion that the Starrett square wasn’t square and the blade wasn’t long enough to check for flatness. I borrowed my friends Woodpeckers framing square and I was done with the machine setup in no time. And it was perfectly accurate. You can see from the pic...

When I was at the Lie-Nielsen get together at Indianapolis on the 17th of October 2009 Chris Schwarz was using this little square to check plane blade edges for square. I thought the Mini Square was neat so last week when I got an email saying Woodpeckers had free shipping until Thursday the 29th I ordered one I received it today. I used it to square up the table with the blade on my bandsaw and true up the blade on my table saw it works great. It comes in a neat little storage box that...

Making Woodpeckers Locking Rings Readable

Making Woodpeckers Locking Rings Readable

1410 days ago by PoppyJo | 7 comments »

Hi to all my fellow Woodpeckers, I just received my set of 8 Locking Rings for the PRL V2. I’m very impressed with the lift, but a little disappointed with the Locking Rings. They don’t look like some of the pictures and are very hard to read (have to catch the light just right). So an easy solution is to use “White Out” over all the recessed lettering, let dry and clean up using mineral spirits, now thats makes my job a little easier. The White Out is pretty tough ...

Router table fence needs work to reach full potential

Router table fence needs work to reach full potential

978 days ago by GregD | 4 comments »

I have had the Woodpecker's Super Fence router table fence for a few years now. I got it as part of a router table/lift/fence/legs package, but I’m not going to review those other items here. My overall assessment is that the fence works very well, but only after what was for me a significant amount of tuning. For the price I thought it should have worked nearly flawlessly out of the box, so I’m only giving it two stars. As you can see from the picture, this is a split fen...
