If you sell, you should really take a look at this book

If you sell, you should really take a look at this book

07-05-2009 08:53 AM by Durnik150 | 6 comments »

I have accrued a lot of woodworking books over the last 3 years or so and avidly read as much as I can about my favorite hobby. I occasionally sell some pieces so got hold of this book. This book is available at Amazon for $15.63 as of this writing. The author is Dan Ramsay. First off, not everyone needs this book. If you enjoy woodworking for the relaxation, the craft, or as gifts, you don’t need this book. If you are actually trying to make a profit or are seriously considering ...

Finishing, It's not over till it's over by Marc Spagnuolo.

Received my copy of the new WoodWhisperer book, Finishing, It ain't over till it's over... by Marc Spagnuolo.. A no nonsense approach to a very important part of any project… the finishing… Marc takes a subject many of us cringe about and shows us, in his inimitable style, how to make the most of various finishing techniques… from the initial preparation to the final buff… This book does not bog us down with technical jargon and formulas but gives us a c...

Pretty much what I was looking for.

Pretty much what I was looking for.

04-17-2013 03:18 AM by muleskinner | 6 comments »

I wanted to add a foot switch to a scroll saw I just bought. The pedal types seemed better suited to a sitting position (I was thinking sewing machine). I will be standing so I looked for a low profile that had the pivot at the top. I ordered this one ($16.84) and received it yesterday. It’s available in three configurations: switch w/6ft pigtail; switch w/6ft cord and piggyback 15amp/120v plug; switch alone. I ordered the last option because I wanted a little bit longer cord and ...

Infiniter Laser guide

Infiniter Laser guide

01-19-2010 02:34 AM by cliffton | 5 comments »

This is an aftermarket laser guide that replaces the outer washer on your arbor. The packaging says that it will fit an arbor that is 7/16×5/8. the package says that it will not fit these 12” miter saws, Ridgid, pro-tech, makita ls1221, dewalt dw705s produced before 2005. It will not fit these circle saws: Porter cable quick-change , all worm drives and skil. I just put this on my GMC 10 inch sliding compound miter and i have to say it works pretty good. the laser is turned ...

Sand Devil

Sand Devil

11-11-2010 02:05 AM by bluejazz | 5 comments »

I hate sanding. Among woodworkers of course, that about is as unique an impression as ‘Hitler was a bad guy’. This tool truly does make sanding easier. First off, cutting sandpaper and getting it into my 3M sanding block was a major pain. I’m sure there are better choices than 3M in sanding blocks and making your own is an option. But this Sand Devil has been a huge improvement for me. First off even with my Sandpaper cutting jig, cutting to size is burdensome if ...

UltraDeck Composite Decking material

UltraDeck Composite Decking material

04-27-2012 01:54 PM by richgreer | 5 comments »

I just completed building a deck that featured the UltraDeck composite decking material. This was my first experience with any composite decking material. In many regards, I was impressed. This is a solid, straight and true decking material. They claim it is maintenance free and I believe them. The hidden screw system works reasonably well and, once you figure it out, installation goes well. The second picture shows a close-up of the grooves in the sides of the boards. A T-s...

Hartville Tool Mortise Chisels and Bits

Hartville Tool Mortise Chisels and Bits

I recently ordered the set for my new Jet JFM-5. I am very disappointed and will be buying a higher quality bit set. I’ll keep these cheaper chisels for rough work. I’m sure they won’t last long. You can find the link to the set here. Pros:1. Cheap Cons:1. This is a short set. This means that you’ll have to add your arbor extension to your mortiser.2. Not sharp, so you’ll have to sharpen them.3. Not ground to standard angle. I used the Lee Valley hones. A...

The "All-Inclusive" book on the topic of dust control

The "All-Inclusive" book on the topic of dust control

Author: Sandor Nagyszalanczy$14.93 at Amazon as of this writing Ok, you’ve got to be getting pretty specific if you are looking at buying a book solely written about what is technically a huge vacuum cleaner! However, as woodworkers, we should all be concerned with doing it healthily for ourselves and anyone else in our shops. If you need this information it is a good thing that someone has compiled this book for you. Sandor does a great job of taking this topic and logically cove...

KOMELON Tape for the WorkShop

KOMELON Tape for the WorkShop

09-13-2011 03:00 AM by Pie | 4 comments »

On my usual Thursday night grocery shopping at WalMart, I was looking through the tool aisle (never know what I may find) I (Ok my girlfriend did( saw this hanging by the tape measures> Hmmm for around $4 bucks I thought I would give it a try because my workbench needed a built in measuring tape. It took me 2 tries to get it on correctly. I was certain it would not stick after re taping 2x but it did. I had to cut it with a dremel since it is a metal backed tape. Definitely, worth it, just no...
