Using either one of two wrenches for replace a router bit can be a real pain. Especially if it’s in a router table. This nifty little thing will allow you to replace your router with an allen wrench. This “Eliminator RC Quick Change Chuck” is a combination bit extension and one-tool chuck.Unlike other extensions, it replaces the nut and collet on your router thus minimizing run-out which can occur with some extensions. I hesitated getting one of these things for a l...

I have recently been doing a lot of pattern routing on my router table. I had started out tracing pieces and cutting them out on the band saw then sanding them on my drum sander, with less than acceptable results (too many inconsistencies in the curves). So, I moved over to making a pattern and cutting close to the line with the band saw then finishing the cut with a pattern bit on the router table. First time I tried this I used a basic, two cutter, top mounted bearing pattern bit and immedi...

Brass Set Up Bars - A Must Have For Your Shop

Brass Set Up Bars - A Must Have For Your Shop

These set up bars are GREAT!!! They allow you to make easy and accurate measurements. I have a couple of photos to show you. The first is the brass set up bars in action. I used them to set up the spacing in this router jointing operation. 3/8” set up bar and a 1/2” router bit yields 1/16” off each side. Couldn’t be easier. The second photo is of some boxes I made using the Oak Park router box joint jigs and the Whiteside brass set up bars. Once again, set up was a ...

I expect good customer service when I am trying to buy something from a company but this week I dealt with two companies that went above and beyond anything I could ask for.I was looking for a particular router bit and couldn’t find it locally and if they ordered it they told me to expect up to a two week wait. I found the bit I was looking for on Whiteside’s website but a notation in their catalog said it was not for the use I intended. I called Whiteside to find out why and was ...

Whiteside Combination Compression Bit

Whiteside Combination Compression Bit

I have a good number of router bits for different purposes that I have accumulated over the years…some good and some not so good. I have been looking at this spiral combo bit from Whiteside for a while…hoping it would go on sale…but it never seemed to…so and finally decided to buy it. I have given it a good workout before writing this review because it is not my everyday bit and isn’t cheap at $149. I’ve used it in my router table and also with a handhe...

Undersized Router bits for Plywood.

Undersized Router bits for Plywood.

I bought these only because they were 1/2 off during Xmas at Woodcraft. I usually just messed with my dado set, or walked it on the router table. These bits match the plywood that is undersized that we all buy from stores. It makes the joints perfectly and very tight! This makes it very quick to cut in perfect fitting dados on the router table quickly without messing with you table saw. The bits are for ¼, ½, & ¾ inch plywood.Very nice set to have on hand and would recommend them to you.

Whiteside Oval Edge Bit

A new project called for a new router bit. Many members here on LumberJocks hold Whiteside router bits in high regard. This is the second Whiteside router bit I’ve bought this year and am once again completely satisfied with it. I’m currently making a small rustic cabin with log siding as a presentation/display/gift box. The Whiteside oval edge bit # 1476 is a 1/2” shank, 3/4” bead opening and met my requirements. Tonight I put it in the router and fed one board p...

Whiteside Router Inlay Kit

Whiteside Router Inlay Kit

I could not be more satisfied with this inlay kit from Whiteside. I have read the complaints about other brands, how they are tough to center. Rest assured, the Whiteside comes with a 1/4” centering pin. The bit is a standard 1/4” shank – no reducer sleeve to mess with. The bit is a solid carbide down spiral cutter. It is sharp and cuts cleanly in oak and walnut. The bit also comes with a protective case – a nice touch. I have read reviews of other brands that ...
