Kreg Deck Jig Hidden Fastener System

Kreg Deck Jig Hidden Fastener System

06-28-2010 04:36 PM by knothead | 7 comments »

I was very excited to get the Kreg Deck Jig this summer as I am replacing the deck at my home. The new deck is a 10’ X 16’ floating deck, framed in the usual manner with PT lumber for the structure and Western Red Cedar (5/4×6) decking and trim. I have a most favorable opinion of Kreg tools generally, however in the Deck Jig they might have missed the mark just a little bit. I have a few observations….... 1. The jig is formed of the familiar blue plastic, but I fi...

Installation issues ( it should "no" star for the moment)

I went to buy this fence last Thursday to mount it on my HF band saw.I mounted it Saturday and yesterday Sunday.I am mechanic by trade and it is my job to make stuff work, no matter what.Well, this fence was a challenge. I was expecting an easy and straight forward installation, the installation was anything but——The table had two threaded holes in the front which lined up with fixation holes in the fence but contrary to what it is supposed to be , when using these holes the fenc...

I Want A Flat Dependable EZ Router Table and Lift!

I Want A Flat Dependable EZ Router Table and Lift!

I am a woodworker, teacher and publisher of Build A Maloof Inspired Rocker with Charles Brock and Coming Soon, Build A Maloof Inspired Low Back Dining Chair. Each instructional bundle contains a DVD, Book and Full-Size Patterns with Online and Personal Support. What do I expect out of a router table? As a chairmaker and teacher I want dependabilty and durability and not too many frills with moving parts. This is my list of expectations. The stand and table need to be heavy without being a ...

Simple and Inexpensive

Simple and Inexpensive

I’ve been looking at getting a Kreg pocket hole jig for a while now, with it basically being a toss up between the R3 Jr. and the extremely simple mini jig kit. I wasn’t really looking at the K4 or higher systems, since they go up in price pretty quickly, and as always I’m working on a budget. In addition, I always planned to get the face clamps, so the extra clamping capabilities of the more expensive systems seemed unnecessary for my level of work. I bought the small fac...

Kreg Large Face Clamps at a good price

Kreg Large Face Clamps at a good price

I got the Kreg Pocket Hole Master system about a year or two ago and have been wanting to add a few more clamps for doing some larger projects under consideration / in the plans. Got a e-mail the other day from woodcraft.com and they had them (Item # 144665) on sale (or Clearance perhaps) for $12.99 each so I ordered (3) of them which just came today. For (3) of them plus shipping cost was $47.96 which I think is a great price as they used to be about $25 per + s/h I believe some of ...

Kreg Miter gauge

Kreg Miter gauge

03-15-2008 02:43 PM by OttawaP | 4 comments »

I bought this gauge recently (cashing in some LV gift certificates) after promising a bunch of picture frames to my wife. It was as good a reason as any to spend some cash at LV. I did do a bit of DD on the two models they offer and found quite a bit of disappointment in the Accumiter gauge on the internet. My General miter gauge that came with the saw is nice and heavy duty but not so repeatable for anything other than 90 or 45 deg’s. I recently built a ladder shelf that had 10 deg angles...

Wow, what a way to join wood!

Wow, what a way to join wood!

This is a fantastic way to join wood. It works well with little instruction. This method al,ost will eliminate the need for clamps, as the screw pulls the two pieces of wood togerther for drying! There are FEW downsides. One is the cost of the jig, but with the time saved over biscuits or dowels, that is a moot point! Another is that the directions state that the drill should spin at least 2000 RPMs to protect the bit. This elimininates many cordless drills, even though their demonstr...

Kreg tool changes the way you work

Kreg tool changes the way you work

I got pulled in at a woodworking show years ago, and I’m glad I did. I think this is the first generation offered by Kreg and I’m tempted to buy the latest just to see how much it’s improved. I enjoy building shelves and faceframe cabinets and the Kreg makes that work even more enjoyable. I mounted the tool to a piece of plywood so it’s always hanging nearby and easily clamped to a table for action. I bought the Kreg right-angle clamps and the metal plate which speeds ...
