Makes Drilling Pocket Holes a Walk in the Park

Makes Drilling Pocket Holes a Walk in the Park

I’m sure some may argue, but this has got to be one of the coolest little gadgets I have in my shop. I opted for the mini version 1) for the attractive price tag compared to their pricier systems, and 2) I never really thought I would use that many pocket holes in my projects. Several hundred pocket holes later, I find myself wishing I had paid the extra amount and purchased their more complete system that retails for around $99. The Kreg-Jig mini will do the same job just as good as its m...

Kreg Shelf Pin Jig

Kreg Shelf Pin Jig

The Kreg Shelf Pin Jig is an excellent jig to add your woodworking collection.  I’ve done the “make your own” pegboard type of jig.  The problem is you cut it down to size and it seems like you never get it right the first time.  When you do finally get it right it still feels a little off when you’re finished.  Anyone who has the done pegboard thing will know how it can be a pain to do(and no I’m talking about those crazy smart never make a mistake woodworke...

I can't believe these are 8 bucks

I can't believe these are 8 bucks

I didn’t feel like making my own bench dogs, I also didn’t feel like paying tons of money for them. In one of my many recent trips to woodcraft, I saw these and decided to try them out The Good They work. They fit snugly in the 3/4” holes I drilled and laid flat on the bench top. They are nylon, but appear to be very strong. I clamped down on my vise way more than I needed to a few times to see if they would crack or give. They didn’t. The flat faces are just the...

Great idea - does not execute well

Great idea - does not execute well

(note: In response to some of the comments…. I do realize that for some these will work quite well. I too have seen reviews of items I was very pleased with though the reviewer was not. For those of you who these work well for, I would love for you to demonstrate because I really hoped they would work. I appreciate your positive findings. I also want to be clear that I in no way am dissing Rockler. I continue to buy many things from them. My decision not to return them had nothing...

Kreg True flex featherboard.

Kreg True flex featherboard.

575 days ago by AJswoodshop | 11 comments »

For Christmas I asked for a featherboard. Before I got the featherboard I was using two pushsticks. One to hold the workpiece against the fence, and the other to push it through the saw. It worked well but it was a little uncomfortable. The Kreg true flex featherboard fixed all of those problems. The fingers on the featherboard push the workpiece tight against the fence, and it can adjust to fit the width of you workpiece. It can fit almost every T-slot, and runner track. It’s great for...

Worth every Penny

Worth every Penny

I had a few bucks on a Lowe’s gift card and it was one of those rare times I didn’t have something jump out at me that I “need”. I’ve had good luck with Kreg products (namely, pocket hole jig) so I decided to give this one a shot. I normally have used a combo square, fixed squares, and some shop built story sticks and such. The claim from Kreg is that it can be used for 90 & 45 layout, a story stick, depth gauge for set up, a torpedo level, and a couple o...

The plate is flat (for now), but the twist lock rings aren't

The plate is flat (for now), but the twist lock rings aren't

I bought the 3-1/4 HP Triton router at a woodworking show a couple months ago. It included this plate and I decided to buy the additional insert rings at the same time. I finally finished building my router table and when I started using it I quickly realized it wasn’t flat. I could feel the part dipping in the middle as I ran them through the router. This was confirmed by the curved cuts that it produced. I pulled the plate and checked the inserts with a feeler gauge. The blank i...

good saw guide with small problems

good saw guide with small problems

682 days ago by americancanuck | 5 comments »

I found this to work very well with one problem. The little red pointer that is used to line up the saw blade with the scale on the beam covers up the numbers making it impossible to see. a good solution would be to make this peice out of clear plastic. Other than that I found this to be acurate and easy to use. It’s a godsend when ripping down full sheets of plywood. Storage with the saw connected is a problem so I have been removing the saw after each use. The problem with this is th...

Good jig but the whole package could use a little polish. Also can be used as a doweling jig.

Good jig but the whole package could use a little polish. Also can be used as a doweling jig.

I bought the Kreg Shelf Pin Jig not to drill evenly-spaced holes for shelf pins (though I do also plan to use it for that later), but rather as a jig to accurately drill holes for dowels. First I cut a shim to go between the alignment fence and the piece of wood that needed dowel holes. I clamped the shelf pin jig in place, drilled a couple holes, then moved it over and used the included alignment pin to set up the next hole to be drilled. If you want to use this as a doweling jig, you ...

Does what it is designed to do

Does what it is designed to do

8 days ago by JSB | 10 comments »

Recently Kreg contacted me and asked if it would be ok to send me one of their new Foreman machines to mess around with. They did not ask for a review or ask for me to return it. I’ve been messing around with it for about a month now and can’t find any flaws or problems with the machine so I will give it a 5 star rating. It is obviously much faster than using one of their clamp down jigs. Even without dust collection the chip management is nice. I think this is geared toward so...
