Actually Does Remove Rust Stain

Actually Does Remove Rust Stain

157 days ago by HillbillyShooter | 24 comments »

Some time ago, and without going into details, water got onto the out-feed table of my PowerMatic 60 long bed jointer. I use TopCote (now made by Bostik) on a regular basis to protect my tool tops, but it didn’t help prevent the rust or remove it. I was able to get the “red” rust off with steel wool and Boeshield T-9 Rust and Corrosion Protection. However, a black/gray stain remained which I couldn’t get off. This stain is shown in the second picture above. Recently I learned about a ...

Empire Dry Lube Restores Velvety Action on Plunge Routers

Empire Dry Lube Restores Velvety Action on Plunge Routers

My plunge router was starting to get a tad sticky after two years of regular use. Not binding heavily, but you could tell sawdust had found its way into the plunge rods. I gave the router a blast of compressed air to clear any dust, and applied a couple squirts of Empire dry lube. I worked the routers plunge several times to distribute the lubricant, then let it dry. Once dry, there was no evidence of the lubricant. No white residue, no oily appearance, just a restored plunge actin that ...

6" and 12" Combination Squares

6" and 12" Combination Squares

915 days ago by DylanC | 4 comments »

Bought both for less than $20 at a local big-box store. Both checked out as square at full extension when I “showed the line to the square”. Also, both have cast steel heads and stainless rulers. The 12” has deep engravings and the 6” is etched. Both have scratch awls stored in the heads, also.

Nice product, nice price.

Nice product, nice price.

For the past couple years, I have been using a 12” Swanson combination square. Its a good sqaure, but far too often I find it too big for the given application. I was constantly grabbing a 40yo Companion Try Square in order to avoid the cumbersome 12” combo sqaure. Unfortunately, the try sqaure is only graduated in 1/8s, and lacks the functionality of a combo sqare. All that said, I went to Sears in search of a smaller tool. I often times buy tools via internet. However, measur...

Top Saver works as advertised

This is an excerpt from my blog posting about restoring my Unisaw. I thought it worked as a review. You can read the original/view the original post HERE. I would have given the product 5 stars except that while it worked much better than I expected in reality it is only as good as the amount of elbow grease you use with it. Enjoy! Where da hail did you get those glasses? You look like yo Aint Bea in Shreveport. Scrubbing away. .Top Saver first pass Top Saver 3 Honey! Top Save...

Empire Combination Square - it is straight.

Empire Combination Square - it is straight.

1774 days ago by jond | 9 comments »

When I was searching for an inexpensive combination square, I was unimpressed by the standard BORG-type plastic squares and was unable to justify quite a bit more for the Starrett model. I was intrigued by the discussion on here about the Empire squares in one review and decided to buy one. I bought the 16” version from Sears ($16 currently). I found it to be straight and square according to the “flip it and try to match your line” test, at least down to the width of my 0.7 ...

great combination squares - at a great price

these combination squares from Empire are great. they have found a specialy place in my shop also. they are very inexpensive at around 15$ for the 12” square and 7% for the 6” square. they have a lifetime warranty and are guaranteed flat and square to .oo1”. it may not be a Starret or anything but it is a great square for the price. i like the big 12” one but since i got the smaller 6” one i have found myself reaching for that one more often. it feels very nice i...
