Jet 708480K JPS-30 Quality Hybrid Saw for under $800

Jet 708480K JPS-30: 10-Inch ProShop Table saw 1-3/4-Horsepower 30-Inch Rip fence With Steel Wings I have been woodworking for about 2 years now and felt it was time to spend the necessary dough to improve accuracy, cuts, rips, and broaden techniques. I spent a lot of time researching table saws based off cost, features, etc. I decided on this Jet for a handful of reasons: •Cost: $799.00 through Amazon: Amazon allows you to finance certain large ticket items for 12 months same as cash....

JET 6-inch riser kit for 14 inch bandsaw

JET 6-inch riser kit for 14 inch bandsaw

So I installed this kit today on my JWBS-14DX. It was very straightforward and took about 30 minutes by myself. I must confess that I watched a quick vid on youtube, and ditched the instructions. I did look through them afterwards that they seemed alright. Anyway, the fit and finish on this kit is pretty good, and everything went together smoothly. My only complaint…..the powder coating on the riser block was not quite as nice as the powder coating on the saw, but, that really isn&...

JET JWBS-14DX

So I picked this saw up from Overland Tool in Lenexa, Ks today. They let it go for $495.00. Amazon lists this saw for $969.00, so I feel like a found a pretty good deal. Anyway, got it home in 2 boxes, and upon opening, I saw that everything was in perfect condition. I have read reviews on other saws stating a 2-3 hour assembly time, so I figured this would be the same…..WRONG!!!!! Major props to JET here. I opened the box holding the base, and the motor was already mounted. I op...

Rock Solid Jointer!

Rock Solid Jointer!

05-05-2010 05:44 PM by CryptKeeper | 10 comments »

I purchased this jointer this past weekend and I have already run a few feet of white oak without any problems. Pros:The manual was easy to follow and assembly was a snap. Plenty of power. Faced 6” white oak removing a 1/16 of inch no problem Reasonable foot print for small shop. I actually went to order the 8” Jet but after talking with my dealer I realized there was no way I could handle that unit by myself (unloading and assembly) and it would take up too much floor ...

Initial Impressions of this drill press

Initial Impressions of this drill press

04-25-2010 08:41 PM by AjayO | 6 comments »

I wanted to share my initial impression of this new Jet drill press. This is a new 12” portable drill press offering from Jet with digital speed readout (hence DRO: Digital Read Out in the name), variable speed and laser cross hair alignment. I picked it up as a barely used from a local person about 1.5 months ago. I haven’t used it a lot but have been looking for a drill press for quite some time so at least wanted to share some initial impression. I compared this press to Del...

Jet 17" Floor Standing Drill Press

Jet 17" Floor Standing Drill Press

03-07-2010 05:29 PM by Jarrhead | 7 comments »

When I started wood working, a drill press was one of my first tool acquisitions. I bought a Delta 12 inch benchtop model, that has served me well, and continues to do so. Last year when I embarked on the “21st Century Workbench” project (see my project posts), I knew that the little Delta wasn’t going to be up to the task. It doesn’t have the necessary spindle travel to get through 3 inches of lumber, which was required for drilling the dog holes. There had been a...

A bargain and capable

A bargain and capable

This dust collector does a great job for individual power tools including my Jet Pro Shop table saw, JET JJP-8BT 8” Benchtop Planer/Jointer Combo, and router table. The planer especially puts out a lot of shavings which are almost completely sucked up. And it’s easy to move between equipment. VERY easy assembly.

Very capable table saw

Very capable table saw

03-04-2010 11:16 PM by Twigger | 8 comments »

My two expert woodworking friends scoffed at any thoughts that I’d buy less than a table saw that I’d be happy with for a long long time. When I suggested this saw they both endorsed the idea. It’s been great. I will add that I’ve invested in the Forrest Woodworker II blade. The cuts are really good, and from a beginner. And I’ve done some pretty complicated work creating a maple corner cabinet with various mitered joints, dado groves and other finer feature...

Functional, precise, compact

Functional, precise, compact

I at first used this saw as a chop saw, setting up a workshop and building various racks, etc. Then I used the miter feature in cutting some six-sided shelves for a maple corner cabinet. That’s where I’ve appreciated the precision and repeatability of this saw. I’m looking forward to the compound miter feature when I cut some crown molding for the cabinet. The instructions with the saw are clear enough to get me there. The saw operations, including slide, are very smooth.

Satisfies expectations

Satisfies expectations

03-04-2010 10:13 PM by Twigger | 5 comments »

This machine satisfies expectations as long as you keep in mind it’s a 30” long, 60 lb. machine. So don’t go looking to joint 8 foot long boards as if it’s a 60” long, 300 lb. unit. But for drawer fronts and sides, home-made router table and cross cut sled fences, and the like, it’s great! Also expect, as I’ve seen in reviews of all sorts of jointers, to spend two hours carefully setting the infeed and outfeed tables to being coplanar, and getting ...
