Functional, precise, compact

Functional, precise, compact

I at first used this saw as a chop saw, setting up a workshop and building various racks, etc. Then I used the miter feature in cutting some six-sided shelves for a maple corner cabinet. That’s where I’ve appreciated the precision and repeatability of this saw. I’m looking forward to the compound miter feature when I cut some crown molding for the cabinet. The instructions with the saw are clear enough to get me there. The saw operations, including slide, are very smooth.

Satisfies expectations

Satisfies expectations

1170 days ago by Twigger | 5 comments »

This machine satisfies expectations as long as you keep in mind it’s a 30” long, 60 lb. machine. So don’t go looking to joint 8 foot long boards as if it’s a 60” long, 300 lb. unit. But for drawer fronts and sides, home-made router table and cross cut sled fences, and the like, it’s great! Also expect, as I’ve seen in reviews of all sorts of jointers, to spend two hours carefully setting the infeed and outfeed tables to being coplanar, and getting ...

Using New Shaper

Using New Shaper

1171 days ago by ND2ELK | 14 comments »

I finally got to try out my new shaper today. It has a 1 1/2hp motor and comes with a 1/2” spindle, 3/4” spindle, 1/4” collet and 1/2” collet for router bits. It has two different speeds and a forward and reverse. I really like the idea that I can use shaper cutters and router bits on the same machine. I have not bought any shaper cutters yet because I feel I should buy shaper cutters for each of the jobs as I do them. That holds true for router bits as well. As I do m...

Now I really do have 10 Inches...

Last August I purchased a Jet 10” Combination Jointer/Planer, and last weekend I finally got to give it a real workout. I had 3 pieces of 6/4 Cherry all 10’ long ranging in width from about 5” up to nearly 9”. I needed to mill them all down to the exact same thickness so I could glue them up and make one massive cherry counter top 9’ 3” long and 17” deep. Me and my Jet got to spend 5 hours of quality time with each other. The good: 1 – T...

New Sander - Huge Help

New Sander - Huge Help

1175 days ago by Troy | 14 comments »

The sander I am reviewing is the new oscillating version, 22-44 Plus ODS. I was able to save a few hundred ordering and shipping through a freight forwarder myself, instead of using a local retailer. I try to help local businesses when I can, but when they don’t want to work with me, it’s difficult. It always irks me when a retailer tells me they don’t have the item in stock, (either out or don’t stock them in general), but that “they can order it for me.̶...

Good Video for Beginners

Good Video for Beginners

Recently bought this DVD at Woodworkers Source to help me improve my jointing and planing skills. There are a lot of helpful tips on the video. My favorite is how to mill out cupped, bowed, crooked and twisted boards. If your learning how to use a jointer and/or a planer this will be a helpful tool to have in your arsenal of knowledge. There are other DVD’s in this series that are for the tablesaw, bandsaw, lathe, and shaper. Good deal for $20.

Jet 12" Jointer - Planer

Jet 12" Jointer - Planer

I am pleasantly surprised at the construction and thoughtful design of this machine. It came in an extremely will built crate and it was perfectly adjusted right out of the crate. The 3HP, 220V motor showed no sign of being under powered when planing and jointing the 100 bd ft of quarter-shawn white oak I had to run. I really like the high fence for jointing and I had no problem putting a straight edge on 8’ and 9’ boards. I felt the 55” tables were not too short to do this ...

Final Bandsaw

Final Bandsaw

1213 days ago by PhineasWhipsnake | 11 comments »

I’m retiring in 3 months, so I decided to upgrade to this saw from a Delta 10” I bought 10 years ago. I originally wanted the 17” Grizzly, but decided to buy from a local brick & mortar store (Sacrramento Machinery)for political reasons. This saw has pretty much all the features I wanted: 12” resaw capacity, roller guides, quick-disconnect detensioning, and, most importantly, local support in case of a problem. Like everyone else, I replaced the blade with a...

How could they even sell this?

How could they even sell this?

I was very excited to order this. A 10” Jointer/Planer for only $420? That’s a great deal! And it’s a JET! Well, when it arrived, it looked like the box had been through hell. The top and bottom flaps were opened, the stand was missing, and all the nuts, bolts and washers were scattered all over the place. I was ok with the missing stand, since I had an extra stand from an old Delta table saw I can use. I just had to make sure none of the other parts were missing....

Solid Re-Saw machine

Solid Re-Saw machine

1215 days ago by richgreer | 6 comments »

I was looking at the bandsaw reviews on this website and I noticed that there was no review of my bandsaw. So I decided to address this oversight by providing this review. I need to put my review into perspective. Previously, I used the band saw attachment for my shopsmith. That is an 11 inch bandsaw that is much different than this bandsaw. I have never had experience with other bandsaws that are comparable to this. Therefore, I cannot compare this bandsaw to other comparable ba...
