For the money... not bad... but not great, either

So let me start by saying that this is the first major tool purchase (in excess of $150) that I have made, and while overall I’m satisfied, there are enough problems to warrant a second thought for a first table saw. If I could have given 3 1/2 stars, I would have… but I’ll settle for 4, since it’s not quite a 3 star tool. I ended up getting this on Amazon, free shipping, with a promo including an outfeed roller, and the whole package was $299. For the money, th...

Powerful Disk Sander

Powerful Disk Sander

10-09-2009 05:57 PM by FatScratch | 9 comments »

I received this disk sander about 9 months ago. I really didn’t think it was a necessary addition to my small hobbyist shop, but it was a gift. The buyer thought it would be a necessity for my hobby and I didn’t have the heart to exchange it. It has come in handy many times since I got it. The sander was nicely packaged in a square box which was very difficult to get my hands around, coupled with the fact that this thing is very heavy. This sander weighs in at about 100lbs. It t...

Jet Parallel Clamp

Jet Parallel Clamp

10-12-2009 12:28 AM by alaskan79 | 9 comments »

I got a pair of 12” clamps last winter and they are really nice. I was using pipe clamps and was having trouble with my glue ups not staying flush. I was getting a lot of cup and would have to clamp some 2 X 2 on each end to stop it from happening. I got these clamps and now I don’t have that problem. About a month ago I got a pair of 31” because the 12” where a little short for some of my glue ups. I really like them also. Really easy to move the movable jaw on the ba...

Very capable table saw

Very capable table saw

03-04-2010 11:16 PM by Twigger | 9 comments »

My two expert woodworking friends scoffed at any thoughts that I’d buy less than a table saw that I’d be happy with for a long long time. When I suggested this saw they both endorsed the idea. It’s been great. I will add that I’ve invested in the Forrest Woodworker II blade. The cuts are really good, and from a beginner. And I’ve done some pretty complicated work creating a maple corner cabinet with various mitered joints, dado groves and other finer feature...

Review ToolSelect.com part #3 Jet Edge Sander

Review ToolSelect.com part #3 Jet Edge Sander

12-08-2011 02:03 PM by Kjuly | 9 comments »

Part 2 concluded with links to two videos produced by ToolSelect.com. The reviews, Jet Drill Press -JDP-12 and the Jet Mortiser-JBM-5 were published shortly before I wrote part 1 & 2. The third tool review video, Jet Oscillating Edge Sander-JET 708447 OES-80CS, was not published at that time. I found three issues with the operation of the edge sander. We, ToolSelect.com and I, felt it would be fair to share my findings with Jet and give them the opportunity to respond. Jet was ...

Jet 3HP Cabinet Saw with 30" Rip

Jet 3HP Cabinet Saw with 30" Rip

There is a summary below if you don’t want to read this rather long review. Purchase and Delivery:I’ve had this saw a little over a year now and thought it would be a good point to review it. I decided on this saw after looking at countless reviews and considering price and overall weight.I purchased it from my local Woodcraft store. The owner of the store delivered it to my garage for a small fee. At first I was a little concerned that the packaging looked to be rather flimsy. It ha...

Jet cabinet saw 3no 30" rip

Jet cabinet saw 3no 30" rip

Took delivery of my first cabinet saw on monday. Picked up at yrc terminal they loaded it in my truck and off I went. The saw was packed incredibly weLL double cardboard box around the saw and the fence and extension table were shrink wrapped in top. Think the only way they could damage this was to drop it off the dock. I have been a FedEx driver for 20yrs and have seen some ruff looking boxes but this was in fantastic shape. Set up was straight forward wipe the top and extension...

Great OSS, competes favorably with much costlier floor standing models.

Great OSS, competes favorably with much costlier floor standing models.

I picked up my Jet JBOS-5 Oscillating spindle Sander used for a good price in very good condition. Other than some signs of use, it works likes new, so I believe I have a good example. Acoustics: The first thing I noticed was how quiet this machine is. OSS (good ones anyway) are some of the quietest sanding machines you can use already. (think about it, most sanders are very noisy!) This tool surprised me as it is even quieter than a very large floor standing unit I have. Power: The nex...

Solid bandsaw.

Solid bandsaw.

I have owned this saw for about a year. I bought it at Rockler for $800 in a deal that included the rip fence and a very good DVD. It sits on locking casters and rolls quite nicely. AssemblyThe saw comes in one piece. The only thing to assemble is the table and fence. I had to drill out one of the caster holes that was not formed properly, but that was minor. I lifted the saw by myself which I don’t really recommend (310 pounds). The story4” dust port does the job. Wired ...

What a Great Tool

What a Great Tool

07-01-2009 08:41 AM by Taigert | 8 comments »

The 22-44 Oscillating Sander was a Luxury on my wish list. But I have no regrets at all. It does everything it claims it will do and then some.It comes in three boxes, the base, sander head, feed table. Make sure you have some muscle on hand to assemble this monster. To save on a hernia repair it wouldn’t hurt to have a chain fall, come along to lift the sander head. Besides being very heavy due to the solid cast iron construction, it is a off balanced lift. 90% of the weight is at on e...
