Earlex Spray Station 5000

Earlex Spray Station 5000

To sum up, I thought the Earlex did a darn good job spraying pretty much everything I put in it, including oil-based poly, water-based finishes, lacquer, and latex paint. I would probably recommend purchasing some of the smaller tip sets though, since they will increase performance on the water-based stuff. The 5000 does lack some of the spray controls typically found in higher-priced 3 and 4-stage units, but sometimes those extra features are just unnecessary. I found the simplicity of the u...

If you are looking into getting started in the world of HVLP this is where you want to begin. At a fairly low entry price compared to other HVLP units this unit is a performer too. I ordered the unit from Highland WoodWorking and they shipped me out to it in about 3 business days. The total package cost $325 dollars including sipping. The sprayer comes with a 2.0mm needle and tip and I would recommend buying the additonal 1.5 mm needle and tip. The Earlex 5500 comes with the base, air h...

LINK: http://www.woodcraft.com/Catalog/ProductPage2.aspx?id=2083184&ProdId=33566& Buy it. If you don’t have a spray gun but have been thinking about it, buy it. If you want to spray, but the cost is too high on those fancy/expensive systems, buy it. If every project needs to have a perfect, auto paint gloss finish, no matter how long it takes, then this is not the product for you. I have had mine for over a year now and it does exactly what it is supposed to do. Sure, ...

Great spray system

Great spray system

2172 days ago by Toolman61 | 18 comments »

I purchased an Earlex 5000 when Woodcraft had them on sale. I have been frustrated with the newer fast drying brush type varnishes and enamels, so I broke down and bought a spray system. Best money I have spent in a long time. The first spray job was with Ben Moore semi gloss Aura which is a high end latex paint. I had to use bm 518 extender at the rate of 10 to 12 ounces per quart of paint, but the look is like glass. I sprayed 2 textured interior doors and the base and casing in a new ...

Earlex 5500 great for hobbyist or semi-pro

Earlex 5500 great for hobbyist or semi-pro

I definitely recommend the Earlex 5500. It’s a great sprayer. So far, I’ve used it to spray both shellac and polyurethane and it did a good job on both. I bought it so I could spray shellac on my latest project, but it was so easy to use that I also sprayed my polyurethane top coat with it. Cleanup is really easy, especially with the Teflon lined cup. One of my favorite features is the secure storage for the gun on the unit. I don’t have to look around for a good place to set the gun an...

Earlex 5500 - Throw your brush away.

Earlex 5500 - Throw your brush away.

The day the previous post came out I had finished my fourth big job with this Earlex. My wife bought it for me for fathers day a few years ago, I got the kit that came with the extra needle (1.5mm). Before this I used a $14 HF HVLP sprayer with a very small compressor, I had to wait in between sprays for the compressor to cycle. I’ve sprayed Shellac, WB Poly, Latex, NGR Dye and a few other things with this sprayer. I just completed wainscoting in my daughters room and sprayed it wit...

User friendly, entry level spray system

Let me start out by saying that I am a complete newbie when it comes to spraying finishes, and to finishing in general. I have never used any type of spray system before purchasing the Earlex, but after finishing projects by hand for a while I was looking for a faster and easier solution. The Earlex 5500 has met my needs and I’ve been happy with it. The unit itself seems to be very well constructed, the turbine housing is fairly rugged, enough so that I get the impression that if i...

Earlex SS77 Steam Generator

Earlex SS77 Steam Generator

579 days ago by Jeff Waggoner | 4 comments »

We bought the Earlex Steam Generator at WIA this year and I could not be happier. This was our first experience with steam bending and it was nice to have something that just worked straight out of the box with no hassle and little setup. I made a steam box out of 6” PVC and used the supplied connector. We were up and running in about 30 minutes. We still have a lot to learn about bending wood as you can see here Steambending Fail! and Steambending Success! I would like to point out that non...

Easy to use HVLP with great results

I haven’t had had a chance to use this product to its full potential yet but the the projects I have used it on so far have turned out great. I attached a couple of pics of my most resent project I used it on. The time it saved me was amazing. This is my first time owning a HVLP system and I’m VERY pleased. Prior to this I ether did everything by hand or used my compressor / spray gun. I am much happier with the results. You can find the system normally on sale for around $300. We...
