I stopped by WoodCraft this morning to see what they had in stock for marking gauges. They had the Veritas dual marking gauge and the Cosman. Both were very well made and sold for the same price. I would have been happy with either one. I decided on the Cosman because the head/face has a nice flat area to prevent the tool from rolling off the bench. I recently purchased a Rob Cosman dovetail saw at my local Woodcraft, I had the choice between an English import, Lee valley and the Cosman saws. The Lee valley was very lightweight and didn’t seem balanced. The English import was heavier than the Lee Valley and had the 2 tooth pattern ( a start zone is 20 tpi at tip followed by 15 tpi the remaining length) nice saw. I watch a lot woodworking DVDs and Rob Cosman’s are some of my favorites. If you are just starting out with your dovetail education, I recommend that you start with this DVD first. Rob doesn’t show how to cut dovetails in this DVD, it’s all about the dovetail saw. This DVD if very unique in that regard.
