Hardwood Supplier: Forest Products Associates. Greenfield, MA

NOTE:—Photos and Videos at the Bottom... scroll down!— Where I used to live, there was a so called “incredible” hardwood supplier who had a showroom of almost 800 square feet in which to display oak, cherry, poplar, and walnut. Occasionally, they’d get some additional “special” species. Oh, and EVERYTHING was S2S. Boy was I clueless! When I moved to my current town two years ago, I had a heckuva time locating a hardwood dealer. I searched on...

Spackling Compound

Spackling Compound

1331 days ago by BigDaddyO | 5 comments »

I’m sure most of you have used Spackling compound before. I must have tried dozens over the years and have never been happy with any of them. Either they don’t stick to the wall well, or they shrink too much, or they dry so hard it makes sanding difficult, or they don’t smooth well. I was at my local paint store and needed some more spackle to repair a water damaged ceiling joist. I picked up the only thing they had. MH Ready Patch. When I got it home and opened it...

Bye-bye rust!

Bye-bye rust!

1443 days ago by Bret | 10 comments »

I’m generally skeptical of products that purport to take the place of elbow grease, but I got this bottle of Rust Off in a package at Woodcraft with some Boeshield and blade & bit cleaner. Last night, I realized that I had to put my smoker up for sale before we pack out (in two weeks) and so I needed to de-rust it. I stood there for a while, wire brush in hand and Dremel tool nearby when I remembered that I had this stuff. The instructions say to spray it on rust, allow it to s...

Sun Brand Random Orbital Discs

Sun Brand Random Orbital Discs

Bought these at the wood show. We have gone through 6 boxes of them. However I didn’t count how many times a disc went flying. The velcro/hook and loop on the back doesn’t seem to stick that well. It’s not that the pad was worn out, one of the sanders we tried them on was new. For the most part they work, but you get what you pay for.

HTC 2000 Universal Mobile Base

HTC 2000 Universal Mobile Base

1535 days ago by CryptKeeper | 7 comments »

I purchased 2 of these units one for my Jet 6” jointer and one for a Powermatic 2800 drill press. By the manufacture specs the 6” jointer weighs 237lbs and the drill press weights in at 209lbs. The HTC works well for both applications. However, I question the load rating of 500lbs on these units I don’t see it being able to support my table saw, that is spece’d at 456 lbs., long term. Pros:Instructions are easy to follow and assembly is straight foreword it took about 15 per unit. ...

Harbor Freight 60" Workbench

Harbor Freight 60" Workbench

1586 days ago by JohnGreco | 11 comments »

I saw this workbench on sale from Harbor Freight and figured at the price of $159, it was worth a shot. Note- At the time of writing this, the bench is on sale further, costing just $129. For the price I paid, I think it was pretty good, but for the even lower sale price you can’t go wrong. The top is Oak, about 1” thick with a thicker edge (so the edge you see in the picture isn’t the thickness of the entire table). It comes with an end vise (mounted to the right, yo...

Pretty good so far

Pretty good so far

1675 days ago by Rick | 7 comments »

I just bought a can of this at a rockler store. I think it was on sale for $14. I was finishing up a christmas present that I wanted to use wax on and I wanted the best for this one. I had read other review and everything seemed pretty positive about it. My experience wasn’t any different. It “seems” to work well and I’m not really sure how much protection it provides. I was hoping that it would dry harder than it does. It also doesn’t dry “instantly...

HTC 2000 - 3000 Mobile Bases

HTC 2000 - 3000 Mobile Bases

Both the HTC 2000 – 3000 mobile bases are very will built. They seem to be strong and have no flexing or sagging under weight. The machines are solid when sitting on the levelers. Moving of the machines are very easy when the swivel casters are engaged. Because the frames are adjusted in 1” increments I shimmed them with wood strips so the machines would not move in the frames. I would recommend these for your shop and am pleased with them.

mail order hardwood lumber

mail order hardwood lumber

This is a wood source review. I was impressed enough with the vendor to want to post. They are knowledgeable and personable. I’m building cabinets and wanted quartersawn/rift cherry for the door rails and stiles. My local supplier doesn’t separate cherry into rift and quartered, so I went to the Internet and found http://www.dunham-hardwoods.com. Marty, the gentleman I dealt with, understood what I wanted, was able to find the material, hit-or-miss plane it, cut it to a shi...
