Dust Deputy

Dust Deputy

My review is of Oneida’s Dust Deputy. http://www.dustdeputy.com/ I’ve had this addition to my shop vac for a little over a year and it is performing very well. Order/Assembly:I ordered mine online directly from Oneida and it came, unassembled, in a very short amount of time. Ordering was fast and easy. Assembly was quick but did involve silicon sealant. This is placed between the lower canister and the upper cone to create an air tight seal between the parts. It took about 15 min...

Drill Press Planer

Drill Press Planer

477 days ago by dmann | 10 comments »

As much as I’de love an excuse to get another piece of equipment for the shop I don’t use a planer enough to justify the expense or space. I saw this Drill Press Planer at the Woodworker’s Supply and figured for the price I would give it a shot. I was able to plane my first pieces of wood this week. I was preparing a section of a 3×3x9 block of maple to create a laminated bowl blank. The Planer worked well for my purposes. I secured the planer in the chuck and adj...

The Clifton Multiplane

The Clifton Multiplane

486 days ago by lethentymill | 5 comments »

A new Multiplane is quite an investment – when I started this series of projects five years ago I was still under the spell of this tool and Stanley still had a couple of cheaper alternatives which could be recommended for grooving and cutting dados.Five years on (running evening classes and producing the home learning course), how do I feel about them? The only successor to the Stanley/Record models that I knew was the Clifton – I have three old Stanleys and had one new Clifton; it was th...

mail order hardwood lumber

mail order hardwood lumber

This is a wood source review. I was impressed enough with the vendor to want to post. They are knowledgeable and personable. I’m building cabinets and wanted quartersawn/rift cherry for the door rails and stiles. My local supplier doesn’t separate cherry into rift and quartered, so I went to the Internet and found http://www.dunham-hardwoods.com. Marty, the gentleman I dealt with, understood what I wanted, was able to find the material, hit-or-miss plane it, cut it to a shi...

Made the switch

Made the switch

After using almost a whole tub (1lb) of SC Johnson paste wax in the last year or so, I caught Renaissance wax on sale at Woodcraft this month and reluctantly bought a can. I say reluctantly since the street price of this stuff is 26 bucks for 200ml or 7 fl. OZ. Little can for 26 or big ole pounder for 8. Ability to buy at Borg or local department store (blue, biggest in the world) or have to buy at specialty shops or order online. You can see my apprehension. But after the rave reviews b...

The Steussy 6" BowlSaw

The Steussy 6" BowlSaw

336 days ago by lew | 5 comments »

This is my first tool review at LumberJocks. I received this as a Christmas gift and couldn’t wait to try it out! The saw worked exactly as advertised. I have the 6” model and was able to create a daughter bowl blank that was 4” in diameter and just shy of 2” deep. (The 4” diameter is a little over the limit of this model- see next paragraph). The wood I was using was hard Maple. The most difficult part of the entire process was creating the “slot” in the “parent” bowl to al...

I love this blade!

I love this blade!

159 days ago by teenagewoodworker | 17 comments »

In my shop i like things to match. bookmatched especially. and one of my favorite things in the world is projects from all one slab of wood. so naturally i do ALOT a resawing. so for that i need a good resaw blade. This blade really fulfills my need too! I have a 14” bandsaw with the riser block so for resawing i got for the 105” 3 tpi by 3/4” blade. these blades have hook teeth which is very aggressive but also leaves a pretty nice finish. not glue ready by any means but go...

sliding table shaper

sliding table shaper

This piece of equipment really caught my eye at AWFS . A massive cast iron sliding table supporting a massive cast steel tenoning table all sitting on a slide system that looks “prehistoric”. I was hooked ! Other things I like are the all digital readouts for adjustments ,the excellent fit and finish overall ,and when it is turning a 12 pound cutterhead at 6000 RPM it is absolutely vibration free . The machine will be used for end grain work like fingerjointing and tenoning , and ...

Not what you normally think of "Poly"

Not what you normally think of "Poly"

458 days ago by CessnaPilotBarry | 7 comments »

A year or so ago, a gentleman on another forum recommended this product to me for interior trim, doors, and cabinetry. Kwick Kleen Fast Dry Poly is a polyurethane finish that handles a lot like nitrocellulose lacquer. Before we go any further, let me say that you need spray gear to use this product. Don’t own spray gear? You can’t use this. Fortunately, I own a Fuji 4 Stage HVLP setup, which I usually use to spray ML Campbell Nitrocellulose Lacquer on furniture. I nee...
