Freud Jointer knives = POOP

Freud Jointer knives = POOP

These blades are so dull, I couldn’t even cut my finger with these. I contacted Freud directly about it and all I received was “thats our blades thats how they come. If you don’t like it you should return them to where you bought them. We don’t get any complaints about our blades” Umm YES you do get complaints because I was complaining with him right then. The dull blades I am replacing are sharper than these brand new Freud blades and Freud has ZERO concer...

Freud Adjustable (Ogee) rail and Stile Bit Set

Freud Adjustable (Ogee) rail and Stile Bit Set

1522 days ago by Drew | 7 comments »

Nice set of bits.I paid $120, about $20 more then the non-adjustable set. Pros:-Quality cut. Very nice, clean, single pass cut. Better then my Grizzly (purple set).-Versatile. I will leave the details to Freud Cons:-Directions. I had to go online (not to Freud, but to Woodcraft) to find instructions. Even then the instructions are not as detailed as I would have liked. I wish they would show you how many shims to use to achieve a certain width groove. Not just “and shims a...

SD508 Freud 8" Dado Set

SD508 Freud 8" Dado Set

I was making some candleholders and my Dado Blades were junk and chipping wood on every cut. Then my local Rockler Store sent me a coupon with 40% off any single item excluding Power Tools. Sweet!, I tell Blondie I’m off to Rockler to save some money… LOL…. The set is $199.00 so that’s 80 bucks off. She brainwashed my sometime ago to always look for sales. Another story sometime, LOL…. Man, I thought my Forrest Woodworker 2 Blade was something. This set is more than impressive! Th...

Not Bad Afterall

Not Bad Afterall

Had blade marks after ripping 1.5” white oak. Even after taking a skim cut with featherboard and zero clearance insert with thin kerf splitter I still had blade marks. Not burning, just the sort of cut that reveals its imperfections when you hold it up to the light. My industrial full kerf combination blade sure makes glassy smooth cuts compared to this one. In fact I had to switch back to the Freud combination blade to make skim cuts on all boards. Too much work. This one is goi...

Plywood Blade cuts cleanly

Plywood Blade cuts cleanly

999 days ago by HamS | 7 comments »

I installed this blade and made a few test cuts on my saw before starting to cut the birch veneer plywood I am making my laundry cabinets from. I posted three photos: the first the before image of a cut made with my existing general purpose blade in the table saw. The good side was nice and clean but there was significant chipping and tearout of the down side. Picture two is the same piece cut with the new blade. There is a small amount of chipping, but it is much improved. The top side ...

Freud Random Orbit Sanding Disks Go the Distance

Freud Random Orbit Sanding Disks Go the Distance

874 days ago by pintodeluxe | 9 comments »

Home Depot switched from Norton 3X to Freud abrasive products. I have tried the 120 grit and 150 grit 5” hook and loop disks, and they work very well. The ceramic blend of abrasives keeps cutting upwards of an hour of continuous sanding. I change them out of habbit, but they look like new and are still making sawdust. I didn’t have any disks come loose from either my Bosch or Dewalt sanders. The disks do not load up with dust like some brands. Cost is cheap – a 50 coun...

Cuts great, manufacturing issues

Cuts great, manufacturing issues

801 days ago by lumberjoe | 1 comment »

To my suprise, my beautiful wife got me a sizable gift card to Woodcraft for fathers day. She gave it to me on Thursday because she also offered to keep an eye on the kids all weekend so I could spend a lot of time in the shop as she knows how much I enjoy it. Among other things, I picked up the Freud SD208 dado set. I have been meaning to get a dado set for some time, but have been procrastinating. I got that and the Leecraft zero clearance dado insert for my saw (which is awesome), among a ...

First dedicated rip blade

First dedicated rip blade

687 days ago by dnick | 14 comments »

After all these years, I finally bought a rip blade, when I saw a good deal on Amazon. Always used combination blades before. What I really liked about the Freud LU87R010 was the thin kerf & the flat tooth grind. Always wanted flat tooth for grooves & spine joints. Blade was great. I ripped some soft Maple & Mahogony & didn’t have to joint the edges. Then when installing the blade, after maybe 20 rips, I just happened to notice the tooth you see in the photo, because it ...

Freud LU85 Ultimate Cutoff Blade - an accurate name

Freud LU85 Ultimate Cutoff Blade - an accurate name

637 days ago by Class1E | 9 comments »

I purchased this blade to replace the OEM blade on my G0690 table saw. As i was cutting the kerf in my crosscut sled, I noticed that the OEM blade was wobbling very slightly. I decided it was about time to replace that blade with two dedicated blades, one for rip cuts, the other for cross cuts. This was the blade I purchased for cross cuts. My first use for this blade was to trim the edges on my end-grain cutting board to square it up and remove the rough edges after flattening. I used the...
