Do not buy at this time, manufacturing error

I recently bought one of these, returned it, and now am about to return the replacement. The unit comes with a mounting platform and casters. They must have recently changed caster manufacturers as the new ones do not line up with the pre-drilled holes in the metal platform. Both units I got had this exact problem. If you want to use your own platform or drill new holes yourself, this still could be a usable system. Just an FYI. I would recommend opening the small box the caster...

Central Machinery 12'' Direct Drive Bench Top Disk Sander

Central Machinery 12'' Direct Drive Bench Top Disk Sander

This bench top Disk sander comes in handy! Before I was using either my mouse sander, or a sanding drum in my drill press. But when I came across this Bench top disk sander at HF, It was the perfect tool for me. Positives,-Cast Iron table-Dust port which works well -Tilting Table,-1 1/2’’ HP motor-Easy to change sanding disk-Includes three sanding disk Negatives,-A little vibration-Not the best miter gauge It’s a great disk sander that I would highly recommend.

Good Jointer for the Price

Good Jointer for the Price

I needed to upgrade from by benchtop jointer to a stationary unit so I purchased this jointer last week at my local Harbor Freight. I have had some good luck with their power tools and read some good reviews about this specific jointer. The setup took some work due to the terrible owners manual that comes in the box…it has about 6 random pictures along with a few pages of text only instructions. I had to change a few pieces around as I went but managed to get it assembled in a couple ho...

Central Machinery Tile/Wet saw

Central Machinery Tile/Wet saw

09-05-2012 06:34 PM by AJswoodshop | 7 comments »

I’m working on a bathroom and I needed to cut some tile. I wanted something that wasn’t really pricey, so I went with this HF central machinery tile/wet saw. The saw has a few problems, but for the price I’m very happy. The main problem was, that water will splash out of the saw, if you don’t have the blade guard on. With the blade guard on it’s hard to see where your cutting. Its a bench top tool, I used my scroll saw stand, just so I wouldn’t have to use ...

I was in need of a drill press but I was short on funds, and after searching around here and other places I decided to go with this unit. Having been burned a couple times before with smaller power tools, I was a bit leery about buying anything big from Harbor Freight, but most of the reviews I saw were more or less favorable so I went for it. When I went to the store to buy it, it was on sale for $239 (reg price of $299) and the cashier let me use my 20% off coupon (which I am pretty sure ...

Decent Bandsaw for the Price...With Some Modifications

Decent Bandsaw for the Price...With Some Modifications

Let me just start off by saying that this is my first review here on LumberJocks, as well as my first experience with owning a bandsaw. I have to admit, the only other experience i have with bandsaws is operating the industrial-sized Powermatics at my highschool, so my expectations may be high from that, or low from lack of personal experience. I bought this about a year ago because it was relatively well built compared to the other 9-10” bandsaws on the market. When it first arrived...

Workable, but certainly not great.

For starters let me say, my 2 star rating is indicative of the fact that this machine is below average for what it is. I picked my Central Machinery #35570 up second hand, but New In Box and unused in trade for a cleaned up curb find of a Delta 10” miter saw that I fitted with a takeoff blade from another long gone saw. So effectively this machine was free to me. So now that is’t in my shop, and I have it set up and running for a while, let’s get down to the review…...

Central Machinery 14” 4 Speed Band saw

Central Machinery 14” 4 Speed Band saw

Review: Central Machinery 14” 4 Speed Band saw This is a preliminary review of the saw that I got today from HF. Price: $360.00Speeds: 600, 1140, 1670, and 2670 Feet Per MinuteWeight: 179 lbs This is a first for me, buying not only my first bandsaw, but also buying one without thorough reading of reviews. I toyed with this saw at the store, I had to straighten out the whole thing before I could see it work, the blade was in backwards, and the saw was completely out of adjustment. Funny,...

Harbor Freight Mobile Base with instructions

Harbor Freight Mobile Base with instructions

02-25-2012 05:02 AM by justholler | 10 comments »

As with many of the other posts on this item, the instructions were a sticking point. I found out just what that meant and this assembly took waaaaayyyy too long! Fortunately I was building it for a small Grizzly band saw so I used pine instead of hardwood. Had I used stock that was in short supply, I would have been further frustrated. The main issue is the instructions say nothing about where the wood pieces should stop in the frame. Once you start without the experience, you will be...
