Track Saw

Track Saw

04-16-2016 04:43 AM by Steve | 8 comments »

Used my Festool track saw Model TS-75-EQ for the first time today. This is by far the very best tool that is in my collection. If I could give it a 10 out of 5 that would be my rating. I have a good quality 10” Cabinet saw, General Canada and the cut from that compared to the Festool does not even compare. I had cut a couple pieces of 3/4” cabinet grade plywood with Maple veneer at 21-1/2” on my cabinet saw and when the pieces were stacked together you could feel a sli...

I can see not wanting to work without it in my future

I scratched an old itch a couple of weeks ago and bought a Domino. I’m making a bed frame and this was the perfect project for this tool. Lots of slats and rails, lots of domino joints. It needed a slight calibration out of the box but was pretty easy to do, and has been a real force multiplier in saving me lots of time. I still have a ways to go on it and the domino work is mostly done, but it really has surpassed all of my expectations. It really is simple to use and as accurate you w...

when i first used my new festool saw i didn’t really realize it’s full potential but after 7 years of heavy use i have made very difficult cuts that would require jigs and or special table saw setups and router setups a thing of the past.i have made very long compound angle cuts upside down, vertical and horizontal, stack cut whole bundles of exotic veneers and stitch them up with no blow out and with perfect seams. the plunge feature and its stop give you the ability to cut out sla...

FESTOOL KAPEX - WOW! (BUT Not quite 5 Stars (4.5 STARS))

FESTOOL KAPEX - WOW! (BUT Not quite 5 Stars (4.5 STARS))

This will be a quick review and really somewhat of a comparison between the Festool Kapex and the Bosch Glide 12”. I replaced my Bosch Glide Saw with a Kapex. It made absolutely zero economical sense, especially given that I’m just a very occasional hobbyist, but when Festool had their “sale”, I jumped on one. My primary motivating factors were 1) the dust collection (not so much for my health, but my hatred for cleaning), 2) the promise that the Kapex would cut 45&...

Review: ETS 125 EQ Random Orbital Finish Sander

Review: ETS 125 EQ Random Orbital Finish Sander

08-10-2014 02:54 AM by pashley | 21 comments »

REASON I BOUGHT A NEW SANDER: Sanding is not my favorite part of woodworking. I want the best result as quick as possible. I even considered getting a drum sander, but at $800+ and a chunk of floor space, I was reluctant. My DeWalt ROS would leave a lot of swirl marks, costing me time – in finding the swirls marks, and finding them after I started finishing! Also, the DeWalt would not do dust collection well. So, in an effort to finder better sanding down quicker with better dust collec...

Festool RO 125 sander and CT 26 dust extractor

Festool RO 125 sander and CT 26 dust extractor

Woodworking background – Hobbyist Bought from: Lee Valley Paid: $1126.00 for both components Pros:Automatic start of dust extractor Long lasting abrasives Amazing dust control Reasonable noise level Variable speed and two sanding modes Cons: None other than price Without a doubt, this is a luxury purchase for a hobbyist like myself. Previous to this sander, I had been using a Bosch ROS which worked just fine. The dust control however was lousy. I work out of...

Festool Cabinet Construction-Lebanon, IN

Festool Cabinet Construction-Lebanon, IN

I recently attended the Festool Cabinet Construction training in Lebanon, IN. It was fantastic! We weren’t given a sales pitch on all the tools they make and sell, but were genuinely guided and coached on how to make frame and frameless cabinets using all Festool equipment. Ive never been in a shop that didn’t have a table saw or jointer or floor planer. Didn’t need it. Unbelievable. I own almost all the Festool stuff and have for about 5 years now and learned how to get mor...

Get One If You Can!

Ive had the track saw for a while now and I must say I love it… as some of you know I am a bit of a Festool junkie, I cant speak for other brands of track saws as I havent used them, but this one is great. Everything from cutting sheets of material to cutting a countertop on a mitre with no chipping and actually have it work on site! It is also a great time saver for cutting long angles without having to jigsaw and router them you can just lay the track on the workpiece, cut and done. I...

Festool 2013 Tool Catalog

Festool 2013 Tool Catalog

10-25-2013 09:39 PM by libraryman | 22 comments »

Though not a tool in the strict sense, the Festool 2013 tool catalog has provided me with hours of interesting speculation and tool comparisons. I should state from the beginning that I do not own a Festool and will probably never be able to afford one. The power tools I have been able to afford are the reason I love looking at the Festools. Whilst my power tools do an adequate job, the lack of vision by their manufacturers provide a sad “what might have been” comparison with the Festools. T...

Just in time to make my cat happy - awesome festool catbox eq

10-11-2013 10:49 PM by glen | 21 comments »

Well, I finally got my festool TS back from the recall. The people at festool were kind enough to include a free baseball hat and this amazing new festool catbox eq. I’ve used several other catboxes before, but this particular one shines. Our kitty, Peter (aka spiderman), is presently getting over an injured paw, so this catbox really perked up his spirit. The box comes with a standard brown cardboard finish, is about 1/8” corrugated material, has privacy flaps that open on ...
