Festool Kapex, is it worth the price?

Festool Kapex, is it worth the price?

05-03-2011 06:51 PM by TrentFysty | 4 comments »

I have owned and used the Kapex for the last 18 months. Prior to that I used an upper end makita 10 inch saw. My feeling about the Kapex is that it fits a niche market. You can get very nice and just as accurate cuts using other saws that are far less expensive. What I like: The first thing that attracted me to the kapex was the availability of accessories that fit some of my needs. Crown molding clamps, hold down clamps, wing extensions, portable stand, etc. While there are accessories...

Festool CMS Router Table, A lot of money, a lot of design issues

Festool CMS Router Table, A lot of money, a lot of design issues

So, I had the opportunity to play with the new CMS Router table that Festool just brought to America. Now, I’m not a big Festool fan to start with, I agree that there tools are well made and dust collection is top notch, I just feel they are greatly over priced when there are numerous other options available. The CMS I feel is another example. The one we have set up is the stand alone complete set (retail price $1600), in the box is a table with folding legs, the router lift plate, a...

Festool 1400 Router - Yea, it's better

Festool 1400 Router - Yea, it's better

I discovered that there is no review of this router on this website so I decided to add one. I know that Festool tools are a little controversial. They are expensive. Some of us who own them have been called “Festfools”. In my case, I was able to buy this router used for a reasonable price that was just a little more than I would pay for a comparable new router from a different manufacture. I decided to do part of this review on a comparative basis. I will compare t...

Festool Domino Dominates or Don't hate me 'cause I'm beautiful

This is an amazing tool. It does one thing very well. Loose tenons! It works as advertised. Accurate mortises in a tight hand-held machine. I consider it a biscuit jointer on steroids. In fact, I have to decide if my biscuit joiner is going away. The tool must be used in conjunction with dust collection. To use the tool:1. Pick a tenon size. For example 6×40 mm2. Install the correct bit: 6mm in this case.3. Set the depth to half the length of the tenon. 20 mm in example.4. Plu...

Festool MFT/3 Multifunction Table

Festool MFT/3 Multifunction Table

This is the Festool Multi Function Table. This was my big surprise Christmas present from my wife last year. She surprised me big time with this one and I think I surprised her very well by putting it together as soon as I got it through the front door. She was lucky that it didn’t become a permanent fixture in our living room. But after she finally convinced me I didn’t need to keep it in the living room, I folded it back up and got it to my basement shop. The MFT/3 measur...

$1400 + with tax

$1400 + with tax

I have other Festool tools which are absolutely fabulous so when I needed to replace my old chop saw, I looked for a really good one, I considered the newest Bosch with all the fancy knuckle work instead of the sliding arm. I really thought the Bosch saw would be a welcome tool in my shop, but then I told myself that for a mere $500 more I could have the Festool Kapex, and own the very best, well now that I have the Festool Kapex and have taken it for a few laps around the shop, my dicovery i...

Best Circular Saw I have ever used....

Best Circular Saw I have ever used....

05-31-2010 02:59 AM by Chris | 18 comments »

We purchased the TS 75 Plunge Saw a few months ago after another regular circular saw fried on me again. I am not a contractor or a woodworking professional; but, I do expect things to work for more than a couple of years. I chose the TS 75 after being fortunate enough to use a friends TS 55 to rough out the pieces for a couple of book cases. Power:The 75 has plenty of power to cut my sheet goods and rough lumber to usable dimensions with lots to spare. Accuracy:With the included tra...

Festool RO 125 FEQ

Festool RO 125 FEQ

Whenever Festool is mentioned, there are always two totally different responses. One is–I absolutely love it and can’t wait until I can buy more of their products, and two–it is way overpriced and there is no way I’ll ever spend that much on a power tool! Maybe, just maybe, both answers are actually very valid, depending on your needs. I do ask though, have you actually used the tool? If your opinion is based only on price, you may not be quite fair. Being a professional woodworker for ...

THe Festool RAS 115 is a Wood Sculptor's Dream

Several years ago at the Festool IWF booth, I told one of the reps what type of work I do and he said you got to try the “Termite Tool!” Full of woodworker’s cynicism , I thought, Yeah! Just another grinder. I didn’t try it, so I continued to shape my rocking chair seats using a grinder with a carbide wheel attachment while turning my shop’s air into a dusty haze. My only alternative was to go outside on a windy day and let my neighbor deal with the dust. As usua...

6" Rotary and Orbital Festool RO 150 Sander

6" Rotary and Orbital Festool RO 150 Sander

01-21-2008 05:43 AM by ShannonRogers | 5 comments »

I just bought Festool’s new 6” sander and it is truly everything as advertised. This is my first foray into Festool so I bought the package with the CT 33E dust extractor. Their dust extractors have been reviewed already on LJ so I will try to stay away from the extractor and focus on the tool. That being said, I a lot of my 5 star rating is influenced by the phenomenal dust extraction. Anybody who has done even 1 minute of sanding knows that the dust is what makes it so terri...
