Well the Woodworking Show in Costa Mesa was nice! Ken and Pat, nice to meet you both! There was some great demonstrations and mini classes. I ended up spending four hundred w/o blinking an eye. My wife laughed when we got home and put all the stuff on the floor saying it’s like X-mas.

Most impressive thing at the show was Sommerfelds Tools, Wow is all I can say. Their router kits and jigs are some of the most well thought out items I have every witnessed in use. I will be buying their Cabinet Kit along with the Door Kits & Templates.
I found Final Saw Cut very interesting with great results. ( had to get one ) Carter bearing upgrades for your Band-saw were extremely impressive. While what I witnessed really worked well, I felt it was on the pricey side. Being I just got my band saw put together from Grizzly Thurs, it was a little early to buy the bearing upgrade @ $250.00.

I heard this show was on the small side but my wife and I spent 5 hrs at the show. It was a great day and I was smiles all day might even go back tomorrow.

Ken, it was a pleasure meeting you and your lovely wife in person, as it was meeting Medic Ken’s wife as well. As expected they are all great people, I mean what else did we expect from LJs ;o)
I wish we could have gotten more time together to talk wood ;o)

I attended the hand tool seminar and learned some new things about using and sharpening my card scraper that I didn’t know and will give a try tomorrow. I was somewhat in a tizzy as I have been itching to purchase a bandsaw (my first), but for many reasons have been putting it off. Then with the Rikon Deluxe on sale at Woodcraft and it being only a hop, skip and a jump from the show, I just had to go. Especially after talking with someone at the show who bought the same bandsaw last year and just raved about it. He was a very kind gentleman, who spent almost an hour with me going over the features and he wasn’t even the salesman!

My plan was to leave the show after I had scanned thru everything and then go over to Woodcraft to pickup my new bandsaw. I even purchased a bandsaw blade at the show and I don’t have a bandsaw yet!

Well as usual, the best laid plans of mice and men….I couldn’t wait to get to the store after talking with the owner of the bandsaw, I was hopped up and ready spend money ;o) My only concern was whether or not the box would fit in the back of my truck with the cover on it. But at that point, I wasn’t to worried, I would make it fit. I walked into the store and asked the salesman for “my” bandsaw, what a minute, what do you mean you don’t have any!!!??? Yup, just my luck, the store hadn’t received their order yet, the rep said they might be in, in a few days, which won’t work for me. BIG Bummer, very dissapointed and dejected, I hopped into my truck and drove home a defeated consumer.

So I got online and ordered it over the website, which wasn’t so bad since the mobile base I wanted was also $25 off, plus free shipping, so in the end not a total loss. Especially if you count the fact that I got to spend time today with some very fine, fellow LJers and their families, I think I came out ahead on this one :o)

Bottom line is that it was a great day spent with fellow woodworkers, you just can’t beat that.

Glad every one had had a great time. It’s easy to drop a few hundredf there in the blink of an eye alright! At least that’s what happened when they were in Seattle :-))

I was at the one in Seattle this last April or when ever it was. Lots of money exchanged for toys. They are going to be in Portland this next weekend and I might make the road trip for the day. Anyone else from the Oregon area going?

Scottishrose is trying to get a group together on another post about Portland. I’m not going, but here will be another show in Puyallup, WA the weekend after that.
