Tenryu Dado WILL allow shims!

Okay, so apparently I jumped the gun on the previous review of the Tenryu GMD-20340. After emailing Tenryu and breaking out the digital calipers it’s apparent that there is some room for shims. The teeth aren’t quite as wide as I’m used to and that’s why I was left with the thin strip of wood between chippers. The shim that I used was apparently wider than the allowance. There are a few dimensions that aren’t possible with the Tenryu set but it’s possible that the same applies to other brands. I’ve added an image of the dimensions that I took from the chippers. There are of course two 1/8” chippers but they were identical. According to Tenryu the kerf tolerance is -.004”. If the kerf was -.004” on each chipper that would increase the dimensions that aren’t possible.

I’ll post more when I get time to use the set again, but for now, I’m going to bump this up to 5 stars since I received adequate support from Tenryu and because the dado that it produces is so awesome!
