I recently purchased the Leigh Super 18 Jig. I was waiting for a Porter-Cable 4216 Dovetail Jig, but after talking with one of the salesman decided to cancel the order and purchased the Leigh. I was drawn to the Leigh for the ability to center my half pins regardless of the with of my stock. When using the Porter-Cable jig widths must be multiples of 7/8” to assure a symmetrical pattern.
Another aspect that helped sell me the Leigh Jig was the ability to do one pass half-blind dovetails just like the Porter-Cable by simply sliding the template fingers to the left or right side and using the provided spacer.
Fit of the pins and tails is adjusted by simply moving the template in and out. The Leigh Jig allows the user to have variably spaced pins and tail to create custom hand cut look.
The one downside of the system is that you must purchase and use additional bits that are not supplied to vary the size of the pins.
Leigh has a multitude of videos available on the site and on Youtube that allow the user to access additional help. A DVD and thorough manual is provided with the jig.
