Bird-Friendly Nest Boxes & Feeders by Paul Meisel
At first glance I thought, “oh.. these are pretty plain birdhouses” but once I started reading I was very impressed. This is an excellent book for someone interested in building birdhouses and feeders, as it contains a wealth of knowledge about the why’s and how-to’s behind such structures.
The author walks us through not only how to build the variety of houses and feeders (with very good step-by-step instructions) but also insight into the preferences and behaviours of a variety of birds. For example, the sparrow, which is not picky about what a birdhouse is like, will be deterred by the horizontal opening design of the bluebird nesting box provided!
The book includes nesting boxes for bluebirds, wood ducks and even raptors—and is filled with tidbits of information about the habits of the different species.
Two thumbs up for this book!
